Could be because they did this with Minthara alive. Despite Larian adding a back door to make it possible to have her and not massacre the grove, Act 3 tends to be very glitchy with her and Halsin. Very possible that Minsc would have mentioned him had Minthy not been alive
@@Hanzo1 You absolutely can. People use to do a bunch of shenanigans that involved transforming Minthara and all this other stuff to pull it off. So, a few patches ago, Larian added a backdoor so you could more easily do it. Next time you play act 1 and fight the Goblins, just turn on non-lethal damage and knock her out. Kill the other Goblin leaders and her body will vanish. Once you get to Moonrise, you'll get the same cutscene you would if you slaughtered the Grove. Then continue as normal, and boom, now you have a slightly glitchy Minthara on a good playthrough
I talk a lot about my love of Karlach, but Minsc is the other character I'm attached to. "Jovial and friendly, but not to be fucked with" is one of my favorite character types.
Minsc is one of my favorite characters in the Forgotten Realms, period. He was recurring for a long time, even in the kids' card game version of DnD. Love him.

They probably could only do it with origin companions due to all the sequence breaks that would be caused by having Minthara, Jahera, Halsin, and Minsc.
I honestly just wish they would have had Minsc with Jaheira from the get go. The stone lord stuff is so unimportant in Act 3 and really doesn't amount to all that much. It being Minsc is cool and his introduction is absolutely amazing, but I think they could have easily just made the Stone Lord a shape shifter of the PC and had you rescue Minsc from Moonrise

To be fair Minsc’s favored enemy changes per-game. In the case of BG2 it is due to Dynaheir having been killed by vampires during the Irenicus kidnapping.
Astarion is only his friend if he keeps being a spawn. If he ascends, Minsc will revert to calling him a monster. Some character development here when Minsc starts differentiating between the vampires who are the victims of circumstances vs the ones who do so by choice.

So...True Vampires are very tragic villains, the choice to become one is under extreme duress and coercion due to their circumstances and they practically have to trick their sires into giving it to them and then once they become a real vampire they lose their empathy and ability to self-reflect becoming cruel and paranoid monsters who no longer sympathize with their "food". And with how you can read Cazador's thoughts telling you he knows what he is, can't stop, nor obtain peace definitely implies the original soul is buried in the curse and forced to carry out what the curse has set down as the person's new nature. The whole thing is built on slavery; the sire is slave to the curse, the Spawn slaves to their sire. I wouldn't wish Forgotten Realms version of True Vampirism on anyone. No matter how appealing Ascended Astarion may be, it's wrong to do that to him or let him go through with it.
I love that Minsc has redefined the term "Wychlaran" because of his relationship with Dynaheir. Absolutely precious. Dynaheir was his close friend and charge, and was a wychlaran, so he thinks of wychlarans as a close friend and charge to be protected.

It's camp dialogue shortly after you rescue him. There's a scene where Jaheira goes off on him about being reckless. I believe this is the follow-up if you talk to him after that scene. Not sure if when you rescue him matters, but you might not get this dialogue option depending on what you said to him earlier in the conversation.
What's hilarious to me is that he specifically excludes the one character the term would apply the most to, because apparently she remembers Viconia de Vir being banished from Menzoberranzan, making her about 200 years old. In terms of natural lifespan, that makes her the second oldest of all party members, (Halsin is 350), and in the party itself, still the second oldest (Halsin isn't around if she is, but Astarion is 240, just not naturally so)

Minthara be spittin' truths. Most of the things she says I agree with. I just don't agree with some of her methods to get said ideas accomplished. I mostly do "good" playthroughs and minthara and I get along just fine. She's actually one of my favorite characters because of how real she is.
