  • Slow Cooker Cuban Mojo Pork
    A good pork butt/shoulder doesn't always have to be cooked in the oven, it can be perfectly cooked in a slow cooker! This method is perfect for lazy or busy days when you want to have time to work on other things or just Netflix and chill. Parties are a great example for a busy day where this recipe comes very handy. This pork slowly cooks away while you prepare sides, appetizers, and even get ready yourself!

    Hi thanks for making the video. I’m making this dish now, I wanted to know what did you do with the remaining mojo marinate that wasn’t used.

    • @BelquisTwist

      I kept in the refrigerator. Most times I make a gravy with it.
      Let's say you have a cup left.
      Melt a little butter in a saucepan over medium heat. (about 2 tbs)
      Add about 1 tbs flour and stir until completely melted in. If you want it thicker add little bits at a time.
      Add the leftover marinade.
      Add cilantro, chopped and to taste and stir.
      It should look like a gravy.
      I have used the gravy over the leftovers, over a sandwich the next day. Sometimes I make it like a heart open turkey. So many options!

    Hello and nice video. I cook cuban pork alot but only when I have the sour oranges. I'm going to try this way because sometimes here in NC it's are to find the sour oranges.
    I'm going to check out alot of your videos. Please if you see this video check back between today Oct 21 and this weekend because I'm going to cook it your way and will tag you with the video so you can see how it comes out.
    Also I will show you an easy way to separate that fat grease from your left over fuild.

    Will definitely try, now for Super bowl Sunday, but I'll be leaving the stems in my Cilantro, that's where all the main flavor is and will be using Peppercorns instead of black pepper and also Arroz con Gandules is not a Dominican rice, this rice originated in Puerto Rico in the 16th century.

    • @BelquisTwist
      @BelquisTwist  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Sandy for your input and I am excited you are trying out this recipe. I think you'll love it! About the Arroz con Gandules, it could very well be Puerto Rican but in DR my family made it well before I was even born so I am sure we have our own version. I have been fortunate enough to have the Puerto Rican version when I lived in NYC too and visited family married to Puerto Ricans. Super delicious too! Let me know how the Cuban Mojo turns out!

      I’m Puerto Rican and I thought gandules was PR too, also thought sofrito was a PR thing till I saw a video and the lady was Dominican! I think we all have our spin because I saw Italians also have their “sofrito”. I just love good food!

    Looks very good! I don't have a slowcooker, would a casserole also be good to prepare in?

    • @BelquisTwist
      @BelquisTwist  3 года назад +1

      Yes, definitely! I suggest you follow this method:
      Let me know if you make it! ;)
      - Place pork butt in a deep pot. Put pork butt in and add water until you are about halfway up the pork. Could be 1 to cups of water.
      - Boil for 45 minutes to 1 hour over medium heat. Turning the pork butt a few times.
      While its boiling, preheat oven to 350ᴼ degrees.
      - Line a deep baking dish with non-stick Reynolds wrap.
      - Unwrap the pork butt and place in the baking dish.
      - Pour the juices over the pork butt.
      - Cover pork with foil.
      - Cook for 3 hours, basting once every hour.
      - Remove foil. Cook for 1 more hour. Basting every 30 minutes or until you feel the pork is golden to your liking.
      - Once done, shred the pork and move to a platter as you do so.
      Reserve the liquid from the pork in a separate container for leftover use or to make a gravy.
      - (optional: instead of putting in a platter, place in a baking dish and bake some more to make some pieces a bit crispier)

    Is this cuban version of pernil? If you have a bigger pro about 7lbs, is cooking time longer in the slow cooker?

    • @BelquisTwist
      @BelquisTwist  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Yes it is. I responded on the website too.
      I would say about one more hour on high in the slow cooker. Because its almost double the size of what I used, cut it in half. Once you start to shred it, you’ll be able to tell if it needs more time. But if its almost pretty much done, place in the oven on the baking sheet after shredding and bake until completely cooked through. I think you should be ok.

    So this dish took anywhere from 5-10 to cook in the crockpot and oven??

    • @BelquisTwist
      @BelquisTwist  Год назад +1

      Hi @GQ3MindSpeaks! Thank you for your question. Yes, it can, depending on what you choose. In a slow cooker/crockpot it will cook in 5 to 6 hours on HIGH or 9 to 10 hours on LOW. I prefer low and I normally cook it on a weekend or a day I am not that busy. Those hours are unattended so you don't need to do anything. The oven gives it the color and crust you'd like. The pork may cook faster or slower depending on the weight. But honestly, its worth the time and the family will love it! Happy holidays to you!
