One potential issue for sellers I learned about with reverb is when people meet you to pick up a guitar or any other item and they pay and meet you to pick it up but then say they never got it because you don’t have shipping proof or signature for verification of delivery. Make sure they do feedback for the item and/or I’d even do a simple bill of sale to CYA.
It is really basis for any transaction to have a receipt that means the goods were received and accepted. But in any case, it is better to remember that Reverb will always protect the buyer more than the seller.
If I ever buy a $20,000 guitar from you guys I'm driving the 889 miles to your shop to pick it up and insisting on going out to lunch with Baxter and Jonathan.
I am in the Kansas City area and last summer I was going to Hilton Head, South Carolina. We took a day of our vacation to drive to Casino to pick up a $3k guitar that they were holding for me.
Reverb is really bad for scammers. I started adding a disclaimer that I will not respond to requests to contact outside of reverb. The best is "please contact my father at "email address" as he's really interstate but doesn't have a reverb account." After I added my disclaimer, the scammers quit on my listings.
Much appreciated, I had a guy during COVID who did not want me to drive 2 hrs and meet up with him in a parking lot so that I could see and check out what I was buying. Smelled like fraud, skipped the buy and shopped again on Reverb. Cheers.
I wouldn't drive two hours because I'm lazy. I don't know if you proved a fraud or just someone who is a stoner. That's a lot of money in gas to drive to a possible sale.
I was browsing Reverb one day and found my guitar, for sale. The scammers had taken the pictures from the Ebay auction I had won months before and were using them to try and rip someone off. Reverb cancelled the ad as soon as I informed them.
My guitar mentor had a solid guitar collection, a few were excellent, most just old guitars. He was unable to return home and when I tried collecting his property , to hold for him, it was all gone. Not stolen, not sold, thrown into the land fill. My mentors wife's son put her in a home and sold the house and tossed everything out. All belongings. I prefer someone stole them so they could used. I am owing the son an adjustment
When I was selling my 594 10 top I got some very strange inquiries. Some were, I don’t care if they want it… I may not want them to have it. But others I just blocked because they were obvious scams.
Aside from the important topic ... I just discovered that if you hold your phone 6" from your face in landscape mode & cross your eyes ... you can combine Baxter and Jonathan face for a bit more interesting video experience.
I was selling a Fender Super Champ X2 a while back. I got a message "My man is driving from Mexico today to pick it up. I need the address". Buddy come on, your man isn't driving from Mexico to Canada to buy a $400 amp. So I gave him an address on the East Coast which is a Taco place. It had good reviews on Google.
There's a Gibson Les Paul in, what looks like, Wine Red with 3 Pickups on your wall behind you in the video. I don't see it on your website. Is it for sale?
I found a deal half price on a used gs mini ( which Baxter sold me on) it was thru guitar center. When they sent it to my local GC for pick up, my local GC sold it ! Ended up they gave me a brand new mahogany gs, and I ove it... they made it right but I had to go thru a major hassle and three weeks longer to get it worked out...sad days
What is even worse now is legit small sellers selling a nock off for $100--$200 off of actual price of item but it turns out to be a full on knock off sold by a fake company that hijacks the sellers site or seller info. Mainly Chibsons and Vibsons online but have done it with Fender too. Sad part is the Chibsons are often better quality than the actual item.
I love the scams on Facebook that say they are closing their online store and have to clear out inventory. They show a picture on a Sam Ash ad with the Sam Ash name photoshopped out. They have brand new “real Gibson Les Paul Standards” $59.99, real this and that and you know there are idiots lining up trying to buy that crap. Can’t fix stupid.
If person doesn't play guitar or even like music, you shouldn't sell them guitars : p ...BTW if someone has to tell you they are rich, they aren't...thanks guys! I also don't like heights, planes ok, mountains ok, ...but as a teen we climbed electrical towers, old bridges, abandoned buildings....I think that's why I now have a respect for heights ;)
At least one of the reasons why this is able to happen is the huge price increases that occurred after Covid that never adjusted back down. Many of the brands that I used to buy new, and fit within my budget, I can’t afford anymore. So certain people are going to be looking for bargains and the copycat people are getting good enough to take advantage of that.
And by the way the gs mini is everything you said it would be!!! I've been in the hospital for 3 months and I can play it in my bed... also physical therapy has been using it as the chording is strengthening my hands . Thanks Casino!!!!
Glad to read your story - my family and I dropped into a country church on Easter, and the guitar player had a GS Mini. Man that thing sure sounded nice, especially the low end.

Years ago I drove way way out of the city to a shop that specialized in resonator guitars, cuz I had this woodbody Dobro ("National Repro" on the headstock, jap made). Had bought it in '76 from a motorcycle geek for $100, didn't know how much it was worth, just glad to have a reso. Anyway, I come into this far-away shop with my Repro and meet the owner's son, and ask his opinion. He calls his dad (whom I had called earlier before heading out there), who was eating at the diner down the street; Jr. looks at me, looks down at the guitar, speaks into the phone, 'uh huh, uh huh, no, I don't think he's a hustler...' etc. At first I kinda stepped back and took offense, but when he hung up he gave me an honest assessment. I wasn't looking to sell it anyway, but I appreciated his prudence. Heck, I had the worst guitar in the building at that moment anyway. I bought a few sets of strings from him, for his trouble.
Scamming people is the absolute lowest. (Yes, I've been approached for commenting here). But at this point, we're also getting screwed by the manufacturers. I'm resigned to the gear I already have, because I don't think I can afford to live anymore with current politics and the insane profit-centric thinking. Guitars are happiness, so I am glad I'm set. And you tell me, over and over and over again, my friend, you don't believe, we're on the eve of destruction. Trying hard to stay positive, but it ain't easy.
I was scammed a few years ago from a posting on Facebook. They were selling big name guitar brands for $88. I thought I was getting an Ibanez 8 string multiscale for $88. Three months later, I get sent a pair of women's socks from China. Now when I see those postings, I report them as scams or fraud.
You should have sent a box with a Walmart toy guitar and have it marked all over the box in bold letters ‘FRAGILE $20,000 GUITAR INSIDE, DO NOT OPEN IN TRANSIT”
Someone had some really interesting telecasters with terrible photos for $100 a piece. MIJ paisley caught my eye. Ask to meet up, and suddenly he had just moved 20 hrs away… but was willing to ship. But no PayPal. Hard pass. I noticed that the account had been terminated a few days later.
Really??? And people wonder why the world is fucked up today with unneeded negativity. That said, if there was a raccoon up there we’d probably see a strip of white…just sayin’.
I think Jonathan‘s problem in a “fight fight“ would be that beard. Granted, it’s glorious, AF, but those gray streaks let you know just where to grab hold of it at. That thing is nothing but a handle for the face you don’t need that in a fight.
@@TVoltG We plan to rehome him once he saves up for an apartment. i don't feel bad about that and you shouldn't either... Although, the age of your kid would probably affect how i feel about that.

Sounds like a lot of fuss, but like you said, you want to get me the right guitar, and I want to get the right guitar. I can give you references from people you know.
I know this isn't about guitars but similar scam - I worked with a guy that won a Rolex in a sales contest. He listed it online and had a guy came to look at it. The guy called him back the next day and asked if they could meet at authorized Rolex jewelry store to authenticate the watch. They met and it was of course a real Rolex. Co-worker told buyer he wanted cash (actual cash) A day or 2 goes by and the buyer called and said he was scared to bring cash but he will bring cashiers check and meet him at a bank and asked what bank he wanted to meet at. Co-worker told him name of bank and the guy said Perfect! That's who I bank with. Let's meet at the ____ location. Co-worker meets him at bank. Guy hands him cashiers check, co-worker hands him rolex. Guy leaves. Co-worker deposited check and it turned out it was fake cashiers check the guy printed from his computer. Stay safe out there!!!
