1st the revenue stream developed by a company serving society pays more taxes than you or I by a factor of 10,000 and that is because they solved a societal problem, 2nd don't hasteful in placing blame so that you and I can pay for it through higher pricing and taxes. This is an inconclusive assessment with no verifiable proof of damage to us and you want to react without evidence based on a theory built on fear of suspicion. You know, anthropogenic global warming is also a theory and the evidence continues to prove the theory wrong, short term.. Just so that you know, 99.99% of all "scientifically" published theories are proven wrong over time and the scrutiny of science (science rarely proves facts and mostly disproves theories). Do you really want government to deploy policies based on a theory that has only 1 in 10,000 of a chance of being true? All problems must 1st be identified and then defined before a solution can be considered. Plastic solved many of our problems since its development in the 1940's but there has been some collateral damage as is the case with all inventions that solve a problem. Plastic in our water and extra CO2 in our atmosphere have not caused a health or economic problem to us, yet, but some animals have died from ingesting large amounts of colored plastic and upsets the ecosystem which will eventually affect us but to what level of intensity is speculative. Finally, if we take your mind set to fruition then all inventions are bad as they cause collateral damage and we should cease to progress. That would certainly reduce the human population and we can revert to many different problems we mitigated over the last several 1000 years. so be careful how you lend your power to your government as it may be penny wise and pound foolish in the end

In the 80’s, bottled water was something new. I visited a soft drink bottling plant in PA that was converting to bottling water. They said it was going to be a big thing. I was skeptical. They told me that all the cost was in the packaging (the bottle), marketing, and shipping/handling. The product inside came from regular water from the tap. The tap water came from wells and could legally be called spring water. It was essentially free. So the profit margins were very high.
Only in a couple of US states, it doesn't work like that anywhere else, so just buy proper water from Europe where they have legal standards. And no-one has ever said there will be more plastic than fish before this guy said it right here.
Incorrect. Spring water has to actually come from a spring. BUT: any water from 'the tap', which is leqal, must be labeled PWS. That is Public Water Source. If you buy PWS bottled water, you do not pass Go and do not collect 200 dollars.
Well water qualifies as spring water. It comes from an underground aquifer and other than the cost of sinking the well and well pump, it comes right out of the tap at the water plant. Better brands further purify the well/spring water before bottling, which removes contaminants and many beneficial minerals. 45% of all bottled water is pure tap water, from the Public Water Source.
I would assume that they did test for those things you listed. However, im sure they found none so they were not mentioned. You think bottled water contains heavy metals, along with toxic chemicals? Really?
toronto water has "certified" independent companies that test the water, yet they receive government funding as their primary source of income. so in other words, toronto water, tests Toronto water. would you say your own product is bad lol crown corporation lives on, and strong. :/
my guess is that it would contain more of these things, since the bottled water companies do filter the water from local source. so the best thing we can do at the present is to buy a water filter for drinking water. lol. also, normally the filters filter out the fluoride from tap water (which sort of disinfect the water), so don't drink a filtered water that's been seating there for 2days and exposed to air. the filter is a moist environment so there is risk of bacteria growth, therefore change it often and keep out of warm places. YES, it is complicated to get some safe drinking water! 😅
An issue they'd have with that is that the water sources and filtration is not standardized and is different in depending on the jurisdiction in Canada.
@@SWANYAWN boiling wont get rid of microplastics or heavy metals, I reccomend a good filtration system like an ozmosis system or even at the least a brita filter I have one in my fridge with a tap on it and it is great and made my water which tasted bad actual taste good
I honestly was expecting more from this video. I was hoping for some chemical testing; bottled water vs tap. I feel like this video is talking more about what we are doing to the environment then our own bodies.
It's CBC dude, they have to push an agenda and they don't want to rock the boat. The same government that funds the CBC is also the leading killer of Canadian citizens so don't expect to learn too much about negative health effects.

Look up ocean waste by country and then tell me if you think the American system of waste handling is ineffective, or even relevant to fixing the problem right now. Also, where do you imagine waste polluting our environment is coming from? I think there are only a couple possibilities: #1: Some people do not throw trash into any bin, and instead litter. This is not a problem fixed by recycling. Let's look at waste that does end up in bins, then. #2: Trash blows out from bins with the wind or while bags are handled, recycling and landfill alike. This again is not fixed by recycling. Recycling fixes resource consumption, but in a lot of cases produces much more carbon emissions than just throwing waste in a landfill. Other than that it doesn't fix anything.

Plastic has turned out to be one of man's very worst inventions in my opinion.
How could you possibly do this large of a production without also testing the plastics in public water supply from the respective cities? The question of if bottled is cleaner then tap water wasn't answered.
Tap water quality is likely going to be different everywhere, so even if they compared bottled water with her tap water, the results might not even represent the majority of viewers.
c l, it's not an illusion. It really is a major problem. But at this point, it's almost too late to do anything about. Won't stop me from trying my best, though.
Firstly, the bottle is shaped by heating the water very hot and using high pressure to use the drinking water to form the bottle itself. This, no doubt, releases plastic residue into the drinking water.
Better for men's testosterone also. Plastics boost estrogen levels. This is why frog populations have been in decline. Microplastics getting into the water.
In addition to plastic particles, you really should also have tested for chemicals leaching from the plastic bottles into the bottled water's contents. Bottled water often has a sweet, chemical-like smell that indicates that chemicals have leached into the water from the bottles, especially if it has been sitting for a long time.
Well, idk about that smell...or taste but I do notice a smoother taste or feeling going down. Which is why I do tolerate it better than sink water. So, why is that, I wonder?
True bottle water companies don’t make the water, the point they are trying to get you to realize is what is in the water that goes into the bottles these companies are making? Plastics from the bottles that lazy people throw into the oceans, lakes and rivers is coming back into the bottled water 🇺🇸
I think that kid who said "we could remake [bottles] into reusable stuff" meant turning plastic waste into reusable plastic products, as opposed to just making another single use plastic product. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for
@Dolores M Agreed. I also think drinking water out of a plastic bottle... is like simulating "head"!!! hahaha PLUS, the plastic can be tasted!! I drink about 80+ ounces per day and can taste the plastic (when forced out of dire need)! Give me a GLASS of water, ANY DAY!! :) When I want something different? I make iced tea with lime (used to use lemon but lime in ice cold tea tastes SO MUCH, better)! :) I also make my homemade lemonade! And lemons and limes offer so many health benefits-- though I don't like the taste in water. I prefer natural tasting, water. :)

This is less about bottled water than it is about water itself. Microplastics are everywhere and part of the reason is all of the plastic bottles we use for water but even without bottled water we would have microplastics everywhere, including our water. There is a difference between spring water and filtered or "purified (tap)" water. When I open the kitchen tap I can smell a stronger bleach odor than the water in the swimming pool when the pool chemicals are at the right levels. I tested kitchen tap water with the swimming pool water test kit & the total chlorine content was at the perfect level for the pool. The free chlorine content was also at the perfect level for the pool. The PH and the alkalinity were both close to the right amount for swimming pool water.

A person with good intention that performs a deed that causes harm swiftly rectifies that harm, due to their good intentions. A person with bad intentions cannot be counted upon to rectify harm that they caused. But, corporations aren't individuals, they're large groups of people and large groups of people frequently will lose their moral center, due to the statutory requirement that a company makes a profit to reward its investors.
There are so many human beings out there with lots of money n are very generous. Others are just mean n cannot even share even a single penny. Money is not evil. People become evil.
Laughably, I had someone give me some bottled water that had the actual ingredients listed. Water filtered by reverse osmosis, with magnesium sulfate and potassium bicarbonate added for flavor. I trust that more than "Pure Water", which is decidedly not distilled or reverse osmosis filtered water, as they tasted the same as the magnesium sulfate and potassium bicarb added water, which resembles well water in taste due to those chemicals being present in ground water.

The problem is that plastic is lighter to ship in bulk. I would suggest that it is safer too, but many other products are still delivered reasonably in glass without significant recurring injuries. Even Perrier and Gatorade are now sold in plastic at the same price as before, if not slightly higher. So the whole industry isn't likely to reverse converting almost everything to plastic in the near future. The numbers are just not there any more. Many backs have been saved by moving to plastic delivery jugs for office water coolers, so there is a legit personnel reason for the switch as well. Glass is rapidly receding as a mass packaging material, even in the beer industry. Metal is a pretty good option though. It is a bit more expensive, but the incentive of paid recycling makes it a worthwhile alternative to plastic. La Croix water stands out by being sold in metal containers for decades, but others have recently started regularly canning water as well.

Well plastids are different and when they’re collected from households as just “plastic” rather than different types of plastic they are often not recycled at all. I hate how paranoid people are about a few minerals and additives in their water. A couple of hundred years ago we had to drink beer and wine because all of our water sources were filled with fecal matter.
@Lee Turner - No, but there's no guarantee the bottled water is free of contaminates or flouride. You just pay more money and add plastic to the environment.

Putting Chlorine in tap should be ban. Chlorine is the big reason people don't drink tap water
@@tomf429 So, in your opinion, which are "better" public brands?

There is one test missing! Tap water! I would love to know what's in the water I drink, cook and bath with! Probably a more important question right?
my guess is that it would contain more of these things, since the bottled water companies do filter the water from local source. so the best thing we can do at the present is to buy a water filter for drinking water. lol. also, normally the filters filter out the fluoride from tap water (which sort of disinfect the water), so don't drink a filtered water that's been seating there for 2days and exposed to air. the filter is a moist environment so there is risk of bacteria growth, therefore change it often and keep out of warm places. YES, it is complicated to get some safe drinking water! 😅
An issue they'd have with that is that the water sources and filtration is not standardized and is different in depending on the jurisdiction in Canada.

These companies should be held responsible for actual recycling and ongoing pollution. This is as bad a dumping a mattress in the bush.
Look up ocean waste by country and then tell me if you think the American system of waste handling is ineffective, or even relevant to fixing the problem right now.
Also, where do you imagine waste polluting our environment is coming from? I think there are only a couple possibilities:
#1: Some people do not throw trash into any bin, and instead litter.

My point is, money is not the root of any evil at all, a person's intentions are the root of their evil or good. Money is an object, it's no more inherently good or evil than a roll of toilet paper or a hammer.
So, for platitudes, I'd go with, a person is only as good as their intentions and deeds.

Why don't you see test results from Tap water around the country ?
Good question. There needs to be some testing of water straight from our faucets.
Look at flint Michigan you will know why. It would go right across the country.
The bigger the cities the worse tap water become. Or what you should call it, Public water supply, since on a lot of places in etc Sweden you have your own well dug out, which is filtrated rain water in the ground.

should never have started using plastic over glass just for the sake of more profit.
should bring back glass bottles, and start making paper from hemp for paper bags.
George V. Cohea what about water in cartons like the boxed water that was sort of becoming a thing a while ago. I feel like that was a good idea but I haven't seen it in a while I guess it was just a fad
AnAceism Glass can break, causing injuries. That's why it is not that common.
Boxed water would be better, glass isn't the best environmental alternative. Still better than plastic though.
We ALSO use a Sodastream carbonater to make our own pop. 2 ounces of a good fruit juice in a beer glass with carbonated water added makes a great, refreshing drink. We DO NOT BUY pop at all. We save a LOT of money and being a diabetic it will likely save my life or at least make my life a lot more comfortable. We should think about our choices and we can save huge amounts of money in the process.

Here in Sweden most plastic bottles have a refundable deposit when returned even certain glass ones. Every supermarket has collections machines. School children are taught to recycle from an early age so almost all plastics are taken to collection points in all residential areas. This of course is not 100% but it goes a long way to a cleaner environment even aluminium drink cans have a refundable deposit it is rare to see bottles and cans discarded. I drink filtered tap water and carry it in a reusable bottle when I go out.
But I saw a documentary which basically stated there plastic recycling programmes are a big con why? Well plastids are different and when they’re collected from households as just “plastic” rather than different types of plastic they are often not recycled at all. They are partially sorted and the rest is sent to foreign countries to destroy their waterways and lands .
So we should teach people to not buy plastic as much as possible. The refunds will
