Just another hipfiring monster, not impressed. Gunplay with this random spread models just feels boring and way to easy. And why so much visual recoil? I thought they realized it back in Bf4 that it sucks.
They should make an experimental variant of the Annihilator SMG where it has a drum magazine so there is more ammunition, but it has more recoil to it the longer you shoot it, just to balance it out.
Jaron Simon funny comment. But I find it annoying when long time collectors of firearms kinda put you down because you like guns because of gaming. Honestly I wouldn’t know about half the guns that I do now without playing BF and WW1 wouldn’t have been my favourite war to research. Obviously it’s annoying when you have children saying “oh, it’s that gun from that game”,but when someone like me (someone who has researched and became genuinely invested in the history) it’s not a welcoming atmosphere when they say you aren’t a proper enthusiast.
I've had the awesome experience of getting my hands on a real full auto "Tommy Gun". The recoil on the firearm is insane first round may hit your intended target the other 19 all low flying aircraft unaware birds even the International Space Station are in trouble! Intense gun to shoot, thank goodness I had plenty of BF4 experience 3 round bursts ruled the day.
I might just be a little rusty on my Thompson history, but if I recall correctly, the first model of the Thompson was the Thompson Model 1921, which was designed in 1921 (go figure), which was made 3 years after the end of World War 1. Again, I may just be recalling incorrectly. Also, I heard a bit about people saying "mehhh no drum mag mehhh" which I'm not sure if it's supposed to just be a joke, but interestingly enough, the Thompson's iconic drum magazine was never actually used in the military, or at least not issued in mass numbers. This was due to both unreliability, like constant jamming, as well as increased weight and just overall immobility, which as you can imagine, is not exactly something you want on a submachine gun, especially not one that's already heavier than most submachine guns. In fact, its large size and weight as well as its immobility was the main reason that the Grease Gun was created and used as a replacement. Without a proper weapon for tankers besides the 1911 (which is not exactly the best primary weapon), they created a compact submachine gun, the Grease Gun, for tankers, and also to serve as a replacement for the Thompson for many situations.
I turned on x2 speed of the video just for fun. The sound the gun makes makes it feel like a mini-minigun :P Imagine if we had such a weapon in ´real speed´
Got the chance to shoot a m1928 Thompson sub machine dun with a 50rnd drum mag the other day. So much fun! Hardly any recoil either. Also got to shoot a lahti l39 anti tank rifle from ww2 and a 500 magnum and Barrett m107. Shot them in Vegas!
Just a bit of history of Tommy gun. Developement started in 1916, the prototype was titled "Annihilator1" & by 1918 most of design issues had been resolved. However WW1 ended 2 days before prototypes were to be shipped to Europe. It was renamed The Thompson submachine gun in 1919 & the rest they say is history. This is a list of all names I could find. Tommy gun, Annihilator1, Chicago typewriter, Chicago piano, Chicago style, Chicago organ grinder, trench broom, trench sweeper, the chopper, the Thompson. Hope this cleared a few facts out. RustyinOZ
Re comments on range the Thompson uses the same .45ACP round as the Colt 1911. So it is a good stopping round but it is a pistol round. Good for close quarters but it does need the missing but stock.(at least the real one does). Also 20 rounds is a bit limiting hence the drum magazines for it.
Eric Borlagdatan The short answer no, it never saw service on an active battlefield. But this game has plenty of those kinds of weapons, so in Dice terms... yes.
It's like 95% accurate... You should play it and see for yourself and even better, The Great War knowledge will do you good. Then you'll retract the comment you made.
I really hate the new ttk update. Should have gotten used to it by now but no. Die after getting behind cover and get insta killed by high damage weapons. Not enough time to respond in unexpected fire fights. I means it’s satisfying to double tap someone with the rsc in 2 seconds but it’s too much
I know I am a bit late but I have finished the kill target for the Primary weapons but i am 90% complete for the Secondary weapons. So close to unlocking this weapon. Can't wait to use it!
I fired a full auto version of this at a gun range, it was the best gun I ever have shot in my life and I have shot close to 50 different types of guns. It has VERY low recoil it feels like it has a silencer on it the way it shoots. Also the full auto and the safety are 2 different switches which I have never seen. The only thing I didn't like is the open bolt design if you pull the mag out with bullets still in the chamber it will fire off a round. you have to lock the bolt to the rear... very dangerous if you don't know what your doing it is not user friendly at all.
@Darion Patton yeah, that would have been very cool ! They did the same in BF5 btw, it's supposed to be WW2 but everyone has laser sight and shit like that. Why make a WW1 and WW2 game if it's just a reskin of your previous game ? I mean, the historical context bring nothing into the game except for the visual aesthetic.
It's basically the Famas from BF4. Really high rate of fire with low magazine capacity and ridiculously long reload time. Also, horses are completely OP.
I just wish it had a larger ammo reserve. I run out of ammo with it very quickly. I feel like the SMG 08/18 still overshadows it though. You can easily gun down entire squads with that 81 round mag.
The Annihilator was introduced around mid 1918, Thompson Automatics/Thompson AutoOrdenance started full production after approval of the US Army and shipment was being prepared to Europe, but the war ended some weeks earlier.
This isn't even close to the most offensive thing to happen to this game's immersion. How about sprinting around hip firing with a machine gun that weighs over 100 lbs?
Lou McGopher To correct you there, a lot of countries around 1916 adopted this method of using LMGs, hipfiring seemed a viable suppressive tactic. It was most common with French soldiers and German ones, I don't know about Britain, America too adoped this idea when they introduced the BAR. And it even carried out to WWII, mostly with germany as far as I'm aware of.
Juri Haataja In this case it's called a bolt because it's all one piece, in the case of modern assault rifles you have a bolt carrier which houses a bolt.
