Shirley Temple hosted an anthology TV series in the late 1950s/early 1960s called "Shirley Temple's Storybook". The first episode of Season 2 was an adaptation of Baum's "The Marvelous Land Of Oz". It aired in September of 1960.

@@rogermaves7862this person is referring to The Wiz live from 2015. This video has The Wiz from the 70s. Imo the 2015 one is better in terms of visuals since it’s far more colorful and tries to replicate the stage production that came before the 70s film

    • @athf4ever780

@@thewizboy well that’s why I said in my opinion. Yeah I’m not denying the music and dances are great. However let’s not forget the ones who wrote the 70s film are two white dudes, the movie is fairly long, and compared to the Wizard of Oz and the Wiz, I just don’t think the way they did it would hold the interest of kids. Not to mention Diana Ross, although has the vocals, was just not the best pick especially when you know it was gonna go to Stephanie Mills who was both on the broadway version and could still play a child. Ross was in her 30s and made into a kindergarten school teacher who cries nonstop. Maybe it would speak more to college kids but a grown woman’s struggles compared to a little girls hits different. Then there’s the settings which are meant to look like a disheveled New York but that serves as a double edged sword since everything just looks so dull, dry, and colorless. Yes, I can see them maybe reflecting the Black American lifestyle for some, specifically the ugly side, but the live version (which yeah is gonna look limited due to it being on stage and not movie magic), adds more color with the lands, the Khalidas are included, the witches all share these sparkling eccentric dresses, and so on. The biggest offense I’d say is especially them underutilizing Michael Jackson’s dancing in You Can’t Win while in the live Scarecrow jumps from the pole, does some dancing and is thrown back on. Similar with the Tin Man’s song since in the live they space both out while in the film they sing them both back to back which is just why? We already got through one song why dive right into another one so soon with a sudden emotional change? These are just my thoughts on the two and while I’m not saying one is better than the other, especially since both do good things, but the live just feels better with the visuals, Dorothy being a child, and even them subverting things by making the Wizard a woman which could maybeeee be a nod to Baum’s pro women with his books but that’s just me

@@athf4ever780 Nobody cares what you think. The Wiz Live sucked Ass and will NEVER stand the test of time like a Hollywood made version of THE WIZ.
All you said makes no difference to me. The film version is BRILLIANT ! age of the character is irrelevant if you actually understand thinking outside the box and life in general as all ages search for self. The Wiz live was total garbage and trash and was done as a holiday special and would only appeal to theater geeks. The film is phenomenal just the way it is. From the entire cast, and those behind the scenes.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was also an adaptation you should note. John's last name was changed to Baum because Sarah was trying to hide him to save the future and they both loved Baum's books. It got canceled way too early because of a writers' strike screwing with the story, but it was a great show.

The Wizard of Oz, as the perfect example of why the public domain is a beautiful thing. The Wizard of Oz has been able to stay relevant for well over 100 years. This is why things should enter the public domain before 100 years. The Wizard of Oz book entered the public domain way back in 1956. That was before they extended the copyrights for things the nearly 100 years they have now. A lot of people (probably trump supporters) think the public domain is bad, because they made a Winnie The pioh horror movie. I literally wrote a comment on a youtube video saying "Popeye the Sailor Man enters the public domain in 2025." And like literal clockwork, the first reply I got was "oH i WoNdEr wHaT BaD HoRrOr mOvIe tHeY'Re gOnNa mAkE Of pOpEyE."
And I literally wasted so many braincells trying to explain to them that, that isn't what the public domain actually is. And that it allows anybody the freedom to create anything. But they're such uneducated trump supporters, that they literally think that the public domain means that they make cheap horror movies of them. They actually argued in favor of the public domain, and that copyrights should never expire, so that they dont make horror movies. I wish I was making it up. These are the low-IQ people who voted for trump.
I bet the first reply I get on this comment will be someone in favor of things never entering the public domain, so that they can't make a horror movie of it.

But using AI to narrate your video and not even attempting to fix the many mistakes that were made in pronunciation, cadence, implications, and otherwise? I’m sorry, but it takes points off from your integrity and causes a large portion of your audience to dismiss it as a low quality content.

It’s insanely wild to call a beautiful story, that was drawn from the first book of a series (There are 5) a fanfic. Beyond insane. This story was actually written by Gregory Maguire, whom at the time of the release was one of my neighbors. I have watched this story become a stage play, then a musical, and then the story of the musical even be edited as they figured a few things out.
This story was written 35 years ago, and published almost 30 years ago. It has been on broadway for over 21 years. Now, finally we are getting to see a version that is closer to the book, still giving the stage show credit, with all of the powerful music- including some new songs.
Please don’t refer to this as a fanfic. It belittles the (no joke) billion dollar industry that is “Wicked” every year.
Nobody is calling it cannon, but it also wasn’t just thrown together like every other film using these characters since the original has been.
