For bad roads you will need an SUV for its higher clearance and if you are in Lagos you should consider cars that don't suffer rust issues cause Lagos has salt water and it corrodes the under body of cars if not properly washed regularly. Cars like the Subaru Outback, Toyota 4Runner, Honda CRV, Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander would be perfect.

As a new driver, any automatic transmission vehicle would be ok to start with although it would be preferable to start with a smaller car since they are easier to manage on the road. Eg: Honda fit, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sunny, Volkwagen Golf, Kia Picanto etc.
