So who's looking forward to the N64 Mini Classic console and do you think this will end up on it? What do you think the top 5 or top 10 NASCAR games of all time are? Like me do you love more arcade like racing games or do you like simulations like gran turismo? Игры
Hey bud, I'm a nascar fan so I'll weigh in. Nascar 99-2000 certainly aren't games I'd ever pick up and play on a regular basis, but as far as nostalgia goes, 99 was my first nascar game so I love it in spite of its flaws. Also, these games don't lend themselves to showing an outsider the appeal of nascar, at all. You say that these games are just driving in circles and, you're right. Real nascar is WAY more complex. The cars are incredibly hard to handle, the G forces are high, and the strategy for tire conservation and pitting is fun to watch as the entire field plays it a bit different from each other. In this game, none of that exists so you get nascar in the most basic, uninteresting form.
I can tell you don't follow NASCAR by your racing line at Darlington! 😂😂😂
Great video as always
haha wellllllll
Don't they generally stay on the road? I've never followed NASCAR but I would assume so. LOL
In-vehicle camera on Nintendo 64?! That is something I most definitely did not expect to ever see.
really? most n64 racing games have it
@@n64glennplant Guess I never played enough N64 racers :(
Well the cockpit is 2D except the wheel, so it's not hard to render.
Only the F1 and Nascar games have it where you can see the wheel though.
“If you’re still awake then you’ve probably won the race” achieved a deep gut chuckle from me thanks
Bubba ray had me laughing so much!! Great jokes as always Glenn
I’ve met him once, nice enough bloke 👍
N64 Glenn Plant was he competing in the Indy 500??
haha no he was with De'von at a TNA house show in Manchester
N64 Glenn Plant will making any New Nintendo Magazine videos in the future. I really enjoyed them! 👍🏽
GET THE TABLESSSSSS
If done well Oval Racing can actually be a lot of fun in Video Games. Problem is that those early NASCAR games from EA just had too many compromises to fit them on the consoles of the time. Like you said the AI and Physics both aren't that good and at least for me the biggest issue is that they reduced the On-Track Field Size way too much. NASCAR usualy has 40+ Vehicles on Track at the Start of a Race, the N64 games don't even have half of that On Track wich in my Opinion is the main Reason why it feels so boring. In a field of 40+ well behaving Opponents Oval Racing can be among the most Intense you can do in a Racing Game.
ill have to see if theres any good new ones to try out
What a thrill I have that version of NASCAR, the only thing I can say is that it is one of my favorite games. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
3rd party support for N64 was sadly dissapointing. The cart format is definitely the main reason, they cost a lot to produce so N64 ports yielded lower profit. And the N64 had lower marketshare as well so that means even less incentive to work with it. It's true that the N64 was a bit harder to develop for if you wanted great results, but even half assed efforts usually looked better than PS1 games so I don't think that was really a factor in the poor support. It really comes down to less profit for the same amount of work.
Yup that’s all the key points covered 👍
Quick question: Once you eventually finish reviewing the N64 library, what’s the next system you’re gonna tackle?? GameCube perhaps???
not sure yet, but still plenty n64 related things to cover off before I hang up
@@n64glennplant keep them coming
N64 Glenn Plant I'd love to see your coverage of unreleased games, regional differences in games, hacked versions of games, other N64 magazines, N64 controllers/peripherals etc. I mean, there's still so much you could cover N64 related!
please see the n64 beta project episodes for cancelled games, accessories etc will be one day but now right now as I hate having loads of gaming "tat" in my house. I live a very minimalistic style where possible which is why I dont want or have a "game room" as such in my home, just my studio :)
@@n64glennplant That's understandable, I was just throwing ideas out there because there's so much you can still do :)
Wow, so did Geoff Shreeves provide the voices for NASCAR?
"Ahh, this car's a tough cookie - she'll be able to carry on"
"Cheers Geoff"
haha, the writing really is bad in this
@@n64glennplant Looks like I'll really have to check it out for myself then. Cheers Glenn (hahaha).
I personally don't like NASCAR but do have two NASCAR games on ps1. As a southerner and as I understand it, (because a lot of the elders of my family are dead), about 100 years ago (probably not that long ago), moonshiners would make their moonshine in remote locations and haul them in the cars of the time through the backwoods, dirt roads, and stuff like that. Basically NASCAR was made from moonshiners running from the law. Good review. Still my number 1 source for n64 games.
thats some very cool history right there! kinda like how I have an illegal malt whiskey distiller in my loft...oh wait
When this game came out it was at the height of my love for nascar. If you set your car up right for each track it is playable. It was a pretty realistic simulation game for the time.
yeah I did notice that the set up features seemed quite detailed for a game on the console
NASCAR Racing for PC in 1994 was the most accurate and realistic sim for the time. You could races against 42 other drivers and you actually had to enter the pits manually. That same company made NASCAR Racing 2003 Season for the PC, a game that actual drivers still use. EA bought the rights and that company went other, but the game's code was carried over to iRacing, which is used for hardcore sim racers and drivers. It features every class of racing.
@@chrishood2793 that company was Papyrus and they are now Iracing
Going to a NASCAR event is like going to an airshow. You aren't there to see any impressive maneuvers and stunts but rather to experience the earth shaking as the cars/jets roar past you as you slowly lose your hearing. It's more of an appreciation of raw power than carrying about who wins.
still makes no sense to me haha
Bubba Ray Dudley would be awesome in the game tough ;)
haha dont say that aloud or EA will make it happen if they know someone is willing to pay for it hahaha
SHAKE 'N BAKE
I just bought it. I’m a big life long nascar fan from the south of the US. But I enjoyed it. I have complaints. But I would recommend it.
dear glenn...youre going pretty fast lately
That’s what she said 😂
nono...youre churning out a lot of content lately...lolololol
haha I know what you meant, sports and racing games are generally easier to review. I'm going to push a few out over the coming days in between main videos midweek and on Fridays - clear the final 30 or so remaining for regular reviews hopefully in the next few weeks
@@n64glennplant wow great work ethic. I watch them all as they come out.
I remember playing Nascar Racing 2 and Nascar Racing 2003 on my old computer. Those two games were awesome !
yeah PC simulaiton racers were way ahead of console back then
Too bad that EA axed those games when they got the exclusive NASCAR license until 2009. Yeah, one of those exclusive licenses that made EA so much more diabolical than they are for the most part, aside from having exclusivity deals with the NFL, Premier League and Porsche (Until 2016 I think, THANK GOD!). Turns out that they actually didn't have an exclusivity deal with the Bundesliga, and instead it was the Bundesliga itself that made an exclusivity deal with EA, not the other way around, as only they can decide who can have the Bundesliga license in their games and to not let EA or anyone sign an exclusivity deal with said football league.
Bro Im cracking up hearing an Englishman try and figure out what was so great about NASCAR... I never got it either. Its like watching paint dry but with 500 horsepower. Even here only Baby boomers care about it.
Bless you for taking all those boring left turns to give us a complete library of N64 reviews.
I guess it’s like lawn bowls here - an old mans game 😂😂
@@n64glennplant Lawn bowls and indoor bowls, and snooker and darts, are far more entertaining than NASCAR! ¶= #unpopularopinion
haha its funny you should say that as I have a video idea written out for unpopular opinions :)
@@n64glennplant I'll be looking forward to what comes out of that video idea :)
The N64 version of Mean Streak by Y&T was awesome as a kid. I used to just sit on the menus listening to that loop.
My brother and I used to die laughing at this game when you'd mess up your wheels the guy would go, "WOAH! THERE GOES THE TIRE!!"
I briefly played this back in 2000 when I was like 5, haven't played it since then but remember not really caring for it lol
yeah its one that you can play but you'll never feel a need to rush back to it
Man I remember wearing an actual helmet, setting up a fan to blow air in my face and doing the full length Daytona 500 with my Steering Wheel and pedals setup. Those glorious youthful days 😂😂😂
Do you do the voice overs on Didyouknowgaming?
No sorry that’s not me
I really liked this game as a kid. But i never really played it seriously, i would always just turn around and drive the wrong way on the track trying to hit the other cars head on. Lol and then i would watch the awesome replay mode to see the crash in slow-mo lol
I think that's what many people did - trying to get some fun from the title haha
The analogue stick is going to break with all those left turns
Already did haha
I used to rent both 'Nascar 99' and 'Nascar 00' back in the day & I, to this day, don't know why I rented both. They are practically the same game with a few visual tweaks & different soundtrack.
which did you prefer though?
@@n64glennplant I'll have to say NASCAR 99. The soundtrack was better.
This was one of those games at my local video store “Smileys” (has the classic beads door “adult video” section) that I would pick up if there was nothing else! The only cool part was seeing the damage and car crashes!
haha I know what kinda store you mean - we had one in my town too
Is the handling worse than Driving Emotion Type S?
If you haven't tried it... give it a go
haha ill have to look that one up
I read the video description and got incredibly excited thinking I had missed some announcement of an N64 Classic. Excitedly rushed to google to seek out more only to find out there's been no news about it. DAMN YOU GLENN!
On topic: Nascar is trash. Play F1 World Grand Prix instead.
ah sorry but we all know its only a matter of time before Nintendo pulls the trigger - who knows the new Microsoft on switch deal may mean we get some of the old rare games on n64 mini?
Hot Take: F1 World Grand Prix is doodoo. I can barley get the cars to turn and they crash every where. Am i doing something wrong?
I find NASCAR way more entertaining to watch nowdays than Formula One, the secret is to watch only the last 30 laps or so, that´s when most of the crashes happen.
how would one stay awake for the first part of the race though? :D
I guess it's true... Richard Hammond IS the only Brit that loves NASCAR.
😂😂😂
Haha I think so
I've heard the actual real life cars for NASCAR are just as diabolical to drive.
Its not as bad as this game.
Kind of.
Isn’t that the start of “Mean Streak” by Y&T on repeat? Lol
i have nostalgia for this game tho i cant say i blame you for your opinion lol me and my brother used to play this in split screen and sometimes rather than racing like normal I'd turn around and try to crash into oncoming cars. it was probably more fun than normal racing lol
I had a friend that used to own only this game with a purple n64 lol
thats probably my least fav n64 colour
EA jerks didn't care about N64, PlayStation version of this game looks so much superior!
that wouldn't surprise me
I sure love me some nascar!! 😁😁
Nascar has some specific charm. There is something about these cars, colours, antmosphere, that makes it really appealing to me. I'm not a fan. Would rather watch Le Mans 24h, but there is something about it...
When you figure out what it is please let me know 😬
@@n64glennplant Yeah, I will let you know... in the section down below ;)
I've never been a fan of nascar but my family are big fans. I remember my brother playing this when I was a kid and it was very clunky.
yeah Im sure he'd have traded it fairly quickly
@@n64glennplant I think he traded it for wcw/nwo revenge lol.
This was my shiiiiiiit
really?
@@n64glennplant Indeeeeeed. I was also twelve or thirteen at the time. I do remember the handling being ass and it taking a lot of work to keep a good line on the track. A lot of ramming other cars was sometimes necessary. But hey, rubbin's racin'.
@@user-fr6qn9xl9e If "rubbin's racin'", is wall-riding to 1st place racin'? ¶=
NASCAR 99 was so damn good.
what do you think made it better than 2000?
N64 Glenn Plant If I remember correctly, the one thing that 99 had over 2000 was the handling of the steering. I’m sure that there was other things, but I can’t remember. I loved 99 so much that in the season mode, I had played until I was like in the year 2030s. So I was happy to hear that a part 2 was coming out. I remember trying to play 2000 and hated it, so I just kept playing 99.
Hey Glenn. Are you going to review Madden Football 64?
Yeah I’ll do all in a series review
I liked this game...
Shit, this was a favorite of my cousin, who had racing games for the most part. Hated it so much. He also had Penny Racers, which wasn't very good either.
I too didn’t like penny racers too much
I'm a canadian nasccar fan and nascar 2000 had a bunch of paint schemes the newer gen consoles didin't have like the rainbow warrior for jeff gordon and the corn flakes chevy ect.. but ahts about it its not very ggood nascar 2002 for the xbox was the best
I hate rainbow warriors hahahahahah
You would be amazed what duck tape can you!
ive patched up cuts with it before but never a car haha
Shake and Bake!!!
love it! im all jacked up on some Mountain Dew
at least 99 had good music
true that!
Not realistic!
Needs more left turns!
hahaha true that!
Why did the developers do so little for the N64 version? Because they wanted to find shortcuts and cut corners *Ba-dum-tsh*
Get it? because it's a racing game and the tracks have no corners...
oh dear..... hahahaha
He said Bubba Ray Dudley 😂
get the tables
I don’t know anyone that watches nascar anymore. But the game was fun if you went backwards and caused a pile up.
haha like a fan made destruction derby!
Bubba Ray Dudley loooool
Two in a day👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 #undisputed
theres another one already lined up for a couple of hours time at 5am GMT and another one around midday tomorrow :)
N64 Glenn Plant
Just set my alarm.
I remember the only reason my dad liked Nascar '99 was because it had Stevie Ray Vaughn on the soundtrack. 😆
haha oh dear, hopefully you have better tastes?
@@n64glennplant
Lol my music tastes are odd (Bjork, Deerhoof) but yes way better tastes!
Ah, I have a PS1 game with Nascar!
they have nascar games for nearly every platform.
I’m
Sorry to hear that 😂
I have this game but not a fan of NASCAR. I like Jimmy Johnson because his car number is 48.
my numbers 22
damn i remember playing this game when i was a kid, only played it when extremely bored xD
Haha I can imagine
Looks better than Daytona USA on Saturn ;_;
hmm but id still rather play that then this!
@@n64glennplant Yes, even with the frame rate drops in the Saturn, its a Daytona game, it just wins by personality alone.
Is Glenn confirmed not poor or stupid enough for NASCAR? I say it's plausible.
I dont know many investment private bankers who are into nascar but if you know of any send them my way to educate me :)
N64 Glenn Plant I am not sure if you know it but this guy is making a reference to a South Park episode with his joke. If you hate Nascar you should watch it, it is hilarious. Great review by the way, I loved your jokes in this video.
600mb to 64mb
Huh?
The space of a PS1 CD to a N64 cartridge. Its likely that they actually had the *room* to make improvements on the PS1 version, while they were probably tapped out on the N64. Which is why as all the audio you complained about is highly compressed
Ah I get you now, you threw me as cds are 700 typically
I saw 650, so i just rounded down
As a NASCAR fan I can say that these were pretty weak games on N64. I enjoyed winning a race and seeing my driver get out of his car in victory lane which I thought was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the controls were awkward and the AI seemed to have some very bad rubber banding even if you were doing well. I remember easily passing all other cars to get into first place only to have the second and third place cars stick to my bumper. I liked the track variety and appreciated the many locations represented. That being said, road courses like Sear’s Point and Watkins Glen made the poor controls even worse. As inside knowledge, I’ve been to a few real NASCAR races and this is the NASCAR from twenty years ago, which means it was very much still “Dudley” style. They’ve tried to become more professional in recent years, both in presentation and fan grandstand behavior. But it’s also alienated some of their traditional “redneck” fans. Think “attitude era” crowds versus modern WWE and you pretty much get the difference.
yeah kinda like how they tried to make F1 more mainstream with rule changes etc and purists got pissed off
What happened to this channel?
On a hiatus 👍
Just say crepes there like really thin pancakes
hahaha I actually prefer crepes to pancakes but I guess that's because I'm European
@@n64glennplant I remember I never heard of crepes until a place called crepe escape replaced our local video rental store. I remember being so stoked when mission impossible came out I was there before opening and had them get it out the back.
It's my opinion that the N64 being more powerful was mostly just a illusion, as most N64 games were just blurry blocky piles of vomit IMO while PS1 games were super sharp, and had more detail, and a lot less fog. Plus the N64 was too ahead of it's time, as in, it tried to do things like bilinear filtering, which was a technology not yet suitable for the hardware the N64 had, it just wasn't powerful enough to make the texture effect look like anything other than pea soup.
and yet here you are watching a video about a pea soup game which is nearly 20 years old :)
@@n64glennplant yup lol don't get me wrong, some n64 games did look great to the point that the n64 actually seemed significantly more powerful than the ps1. But the amount of effort to achieve that level of visuals was massive, and only a tiny number of devs could do it.
Why did the developer not do anything, because thats what EA does, this isnt a new thing theyve always been like this
not always, back in the old days they were actually quite a cool company - just money got in the way for them
Don't feel bad Nascar games aren't my favorite it is just too boreing to me.
yeah me too
Game looks so boring. Can't understand how they even dared to sell this crap for full price. I don't even know if this game was sold in The Netherlands.
I dont think it was
I never understood NASCAR either ... always seemed boring and bland to me.
I guess people also feel that way about f1 which I personally enjoy
CD can hold more ps 1 had more storage
Yep, this looks terrible
