Beautiful work Sir. I took some advice on mixing the awlgrip topcoat and I tried it I learned that super thin coats but 2 as long as you have your color makes a huge difference than one or two thick coats you can’t see the brush marks as much and there a lot finer if you do see them.

Hello Leo. My wife is a beautiful Filipina from Pasay City. Married 33 years! I just bought a 1984 Chris Craft Commander 315 in May of this year. It is a 31 foot sport fishing boat with lots of Teak capping rails and swim deck and pulpit at the bow of the boat. I LOVE LEARNING from you! Thank you so much for your videos. I am a subscriber now. I'm going to finish my outside Teak with AWLGRIP, as you show in this video. My boat's Teak has old varnish an Grey exposed wood. I will use scrapers and 220 grit to prep the wood before the varnish. But how do I get rid of the Grey color before varnishing? I don't want to aggressively sand away the Grey. Any advice? Thank you and kind regards.

Hello mate...if the teak is very weathered you will going to have to sand it aggressively you will need to sand it down well until you get rid of all the weathed greyish part of the teak, start getting off the old coating if it has...then start sanding it with 80 grit sandpaper then 150 the 220 grit before your buildup coat..this varnish I am using on this video is only to be used as top coat..do not use this varnish on bare wood because it will not work...the varnish you can use to build up is called AWSPAR it is a product by Awlgrip...put about ten coats of that build up coat of AWSPAR..but the more the better, but it all depends of how satisfied you are..then you can use the varnish I use in this video..as the top coat about 3 coats for best results..

master class! any tips for accidental drops on teak and haul, even ifs dry? Cheers!

One thing you have to be very careful with is the drops on the paint job, double check even triple check before you finished the job uncured drips is a lot easier to clean on the paint,..on the teak deck it is not as bad if there is any drips, on teak deck if there's drips no matter how you clean it with solvent it will always leave mark, but that's easy to fix with a light sand of 80 grit sandpaper when it's dried.

Are you sanding before you start the varnish or can you just place it over the old stuff

I sanded it with 320 grit sandpaper...or you can scuff it with that fine maroon color scotch pad ..

Can I apply the 2 part awlbrite over the top of epifanes?

Yes you can...i have done it many times, just make sure your one part epifanes is well cured before you varnish over with the awlbrite.
