@180 Tape Holder:Hey check out the 180 Tape Holder. If you do lots of taping and masking this is a time saver!!🔥🔥
Hey Leon. What's your opinion of Stoppani as a capping rail varnish?
Actually I never used stoppani before,..I only heard about it from my friends on the industry but never used it..
I am still trying to get the nerve up to follow your aluminum bubble painting video ... for my bubbles ... and now you have this video. I feel like I am behind in class.
Just go for it mate...you can do it😉😉...you have to start, it's a learning process,it's easy the more you do it🤟
Thank you for your video and sharing your experience.
You're welcome 🤗
Thankyou for the knowledge sir big help for the beginers like me ❤
You're welcome..
5:50 Makita for the win!
😁😁
Im learning to varnish and I use awlwood varnish. I tried doing teak but had a couple bubbles is there a way to reduce bubbles and what can I use to reduce the awlwood? I really want to learn how to do very good varnish my area needs more people who do it and it’s a good opportunity for me. Finished the video and I learned a lot from this and the end result is really nice. Thank you for these videos do a lot more I enjoy watching these and learning from a master!
Hi..I am glad that it helped. About awlwood I actually never used it yet...maybe I should give it a try, lots of the guys in the industry that I know uses this awlwood system.
This is truly amazing … you have a knack for explaining and showing
Thanks mate.
I did learn something from this video ! Learned a lot. Great idea to isolate the frames. Is that some special kind of red tape ? Or just another brand of “blue tape”
I am glad that this helps..the red tape is a fine line tape, they come in various color and size..
Great info on prepping and painting aluminum …. I may actually try tackling one of my blisters !!
Thanks you..
Long horn 🎺
Love it. Will use tips on my next project!
Thanks mate..
Beautiful job always!
Thanks as always..
Mother nature can be powerful. And now with changing clamate, even mega yachts are not excluded for major damage.

Thanks for this down to earth “Rolling and Tipping” video as it really helped me understand why you tip: It’s to get rid of all those pesky tiny bubbles that form on the surface. This is the first video which has specifically mentioned the little tiny bubbles that were appearing in my two pack linear polyurethane top coat when rolling. Just for the record, I was using an Australian manufactured polyurethane called Norglass. I thought I could just roll and it on. WRONG. I subsequently got frustrated when I noticed all these minuscule bubbles forming. Fortunately, it was just the first top coat so I think I have been able to sand them out using 400 grit wet and dry. The bubbles, interestingly enough, we’re not forming everywhere, just in a few spots. I don’t know why that that was. Anyway, you solved the mystery for me. You were the first youtube video -and I’ve watched many- to mention this this fact. Ie. Tipping is necessary when you use a roller to get rid of all the tiny surface bubbles that look like they could be specks of dust. They are just that small bubbles but that are not dust they are just bubbles which can be “tipped” out with a brush. Cheers and Thanks Again Sandy B Coochiemudlo Island Australia
I am glad mate ..good luck with your next roll and tip project...cheers👍👍
awesome - well done. looks great.
Thank you 👍👍
Hello. Nice video and many thanks for chisel idea. Working in sail boats charter 21 season and it newer did cross mine mind even chisel is mine favorite tool. I personally do not like oil on teak and if you ask me what do I use and would recommend it is Höveling Golden Teak Sealer. Yes, it has yellowish tint but that's exactly why I love it.
Thanks for the recommendation..I will keep an eye on that particular brand and give it a try...
I was just experimenting this one..me myself doesn't really like putting oil too on the deck, there will be a lot of maintenance...I will see if this is sustainable, then maybe do the whole boat hehe.
Hello Leo. My wife is a beautiful Filipina from Pasay City. Married 33 years! I just bought a 1984 Chris Craft Commander 315 in May of this year. It is a 31 foot sport fishing boat with lots of Teak capping rails and swim deck and pulpit at the bow of the boat. I LOVE LEARNING from you! Thank you so much for your videos. I am a subscriber now. I'm going to finish my outside Teak with AWLGRIP, as you show in this video. My boat's Teak has old varnish an Grey exposed wood. I will use scrapers and 220 grit to prep the wood before the varnish. But how do I get rid of the Grey color before varnishing? I don't want to aggressively sand away the Grey. Any advice? Thank you and kind regards.
Hello mate...if the teak is very weathered you will going to have to sand it aggressively you will need to sand it down well until you get rid of all the weathed greyish part of the teak, start getting off the old coating if it has...then start sanding it with 80 grit sandpaper then 150 the 220 grit before your buildup coat..this varnish I am using on this video is only to be used as top coat..do not use this varnish on bare wood because it will not work...the varnish you can use to build up is called AWSPAR it is a product by Awlgrip...put about ten coats of that build up coat of AWSPAR..but the more the better, but it all depends of how satisfied you are..then you can use the varnish I use in this video..as the top coat about 3 coats for best results..
what about "teak wonder" it stays quite long (around 2 months) but I dont know the one that you used. I also heard SEMCO but I dont know if all these are the same or not if you used any of them I would be happy to hear your experiences. Thx for the videos
Yahh I heard a few good thing about teak wonder, I was going to buy a small tin of it and use it for this project, but I was a bit hesitant, so I end up using the one I have .. the tried and tested on our furnitures but not on the deck, about the Semco I actually tried ansmall area on our previous tender but I did not like the strong smell of it and the slight yellowish tint, it look a bit unnatural.
@@leoncaputolan got it thanks a lot
Looks great
Thank you...👍👍
Nice vid man!
Thanks mate..
Leon said this was a 2-part varnish, but what brand and mix ratio? Thanks! ( maybe I missed it )
Hello mate... actually this is 3 part varnish, I said in the video two part because I am used to another urethane varnish that I use a while back ..this particular varnish I used here is called Awlbrite this has to be mixe together with its converter and brushing activator..the mixing ratio is 2 part: Base J3005 1 part: Converter J3006 1/2 part : Brushing activator A0031. Hope this helps....

Thanks...I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.🙏
What an amazing images Leon, they are breathtaking.
Thanks Candela..
I'm an apprentice painter/custom work, you remind me of my boss. He's one of the best painters/custom house work in the US west. Whenever he teaches something I'm glued on whatever he telling me. You got me glued to this. All your prep techniques and rolling while back brushing looks awesome. You must be one of the best out there with refinishing and fixing patches on yachts.
Thanks for the kind words..🙏👍
Are you sanding before you start the varnish or can you just place it over the old stuff
I sanded it with 320 grit sandpaper...or you can scuff it with that fine maroon color scotch pad ..
WOW 🤩
Thanks Jess
Wow Wow Wow Man great job on the filming and editing , lots of this footage can be sold online man , thank you for sharing
Thanks mate ..
Leon~ Like,gorgeous drone, :))
Thanks..I'm glad you liked it!
Nice one mate
Thanks👍
Leon, before you scrape with your profile tool, the first time you should spray the surface with the water. That will prevent the excess from getting on the window and the frame. it will still leave you with a perfect bead just like you finished, but you won’t have to wait and clean it up later.
thank you, my next video will be the one using this technique.
Transported to paradise by these breathtaking views! SUperb editing skills👏💪👌😍 ✨ #Wanderlust
Thanks a lot🤗
