Downshifting involves double clutching but as you have it in Neutral, tap the gas pedal a bit then complete the downshift. It's a little tricky to learn but you'll get it with practice. I always loved driving our '51 F5. Once my Uncle Harry taught me to drive it I became his chauffer -- he never drove that truck again. LOL
HA! Ya no EMP will take Daisy out. Man I gotta tell you youre right! What a brute. Just all muscle. Not a Princess truck at all. But everytime I get in her and start driving I grin from ear to ear. She is an incredible old truck. Very happy to find her and give her a good home. Thanks!
Thanks Joan! Of all the old cars I've had she is my all time favorite. Hulky big old school handles like an old truck bouncy, ... always need two hands on the wheel. No power assisted anything so you get a work out driving her.....but man what a blast to go down the road in! Just a great old truck!
I had a 51 f4 red an white, payed 250 dollars in the year 1975. Flathead v8 same as this one. Sounded so good going down the highway. I can just cry for selling her.
I have the exact same truck. Looking forward to finishing the restoration this summer and taking it for my first drive. Until then ill have to watch your video and take a drive in yours. Beautiful truck. Ill try to post mine when it's completed. When you shift there is no need for the clutch. Just shift slowly. When downshifting just shift to neutral and rev the engine between 1000 to 1200 and drop your gear. May be more may be less. Same as a big rig.
Hi Mike! Wowowowow WOW!!! Man this is my kinda truck! That was some awesome find! If an EMP ever hits and kills all the automobiles and everything else, you'll still be going in that Ford! Man I'd take that thing everywhere. It represents what the USA needs to get back to. Stuff that was built tough and stands the test of time. Heck the new ones fall apart now before you get them off the car lot. Enjoyed this! Congrats - Ricky :-))
Hey! Watch who you are calling an 'old girl'. You DO realize Daisy is only two years older than me, don't you...lol. This is a great vid, Mike. What a great find! It's amazing she has all the original parts and she sounds perfect! Daisy Cam...lol..too cute :) I think the men in my family would be full of envy if they watched this video :) Thanks for the ride!
I stand corrected. She is a 1 1/4 ton... still wearing her widow makers. I haven't been able to find 18-20" 5 lug steel wheels that will fit anywhere yet, and when I have I refuse to pay extortionist prices. Chuck's Trucks whose a big Ford truck restorer in the NE quoted me $450 per wheel (no tire) for used steel rims. But I'll find them eventually at a fair price. Just haven't looked hard enough.
Thanks. Ya I love that truck. Never shifted anything like this before. I'm gonna work on the down shift and no clutch thing. I'm sure your right, I had to learn on my own and its worlds apart from a synchronized tranny.
I'd rather drive that old Ford stakebody than a new Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan GM should sue Nissan for stealing the Titan name. It was on a Chevy or GMC Cabover semi truck.
Actually Ford never made a 1 1/4 ton. The F4 was a one ton, the equivalent of today's F350. As the owner of a 1950 F5, I can also tell you that the "Widow Maker" wheels were never outlawed, but they are not at all desirable by anyone into the old trucks. The only time I've ever seen them truly called desirable was when some idiot on ebay was trying to sell them and make some money rather than scraping them like you should.
I don't know who rap the spark plug wires up together and zip-tied on but actually that is not good they are supposed to be separated from each other not rap together you need to separate them!

Ill try again this spring when I get her out of storage. I figured as much but the few attempts I made last year I missed badly. Thanks!

The carburetor is a two barrel not a single barrel. .

Nice truck but it's not a one barrel carburetor. It's a 2 barrel. I used to have a 52 M-6 . Same engine and tranny but with 2 speed axle.
Life aint fair. If you ever find the kid who took it, let me know and I'll meet him on the playground at high noon.

Are they split rim tires?
yep
The F-4 is a 1 1/4 ton instead of a 1 1/2 ton. Nice truck just the same though
toledo is where i live

My bad. But it looks like it will haul one heck of a lot more than 1 1/4 tons. Unlike todays trucks she is massively over built.
