    I really was turned off by the requirement that I scuff the plate. I bought this at MicroCenter and I'm holding off on possibly returning it...but you're not the first person I've seen who's NOT scuffed it despite the instructions. Mine also came WITH a burgundy 3M scuffing pad.

    I just received my PEX plate on Saturday, now waiting for my BL X1C to arrive today. then the fun begins. I'm coming from an ender 3 s1 pro which glue stick and hair spray did not work for me. The only thing that worked was blue painters tape. Can wait to be done with that setup.

    • @futureethan

      Painters tape is what I used a few years ago. Now it is usually PEI. I don't want glue stick or hairspray residue on my prints. Tape is by far the most reliable from what I remember from a few years ago but a pain to apply to the bed.

    I bought it, same happened to me, got tired of testing. New favorite: Lightyear G10 garolite plate. Wham Bam tells you to use Gluestick for PETG in all of their instructions, but G10 works without it for all materials. I regret paing $55 plus tax for the whambam, but I'm buying a second Lightyear plate now because its so good

    GLUE IS NOT FOR GLUEING.... Many people seem to be misunderstanding why you should use a glue stick with PETG. It's NOT to make it stick! Actually, just the opposite. The glue stick is used as a releasing agent! PETG tends to stick TOO well. Glue stick is used because it is easy to apply a thin layer and this type of glue doesn't cure, so you can use it over and over and clean it up easy with just water. I've heard Windex can be a good releasing agent as well.

    I completely concur that using glue stick to 3D print in 2023 is dumber than dirt. I've been printing TPU on a textured glass build plate for years and it's spoiled me. I pop off the part, peel off the skirt that was printed to prime the nozzle and I'm good to print another part. I print on a 75C glass bed for the first layer and the bed is unheated for the remainder of the print so there's not much wasted energy with a heated bed heating my office.

    You should have scuffed the plate and you should also scuff and clean it after every print. I never had an issue with PETG, ABS, ASA, or PLA. No Gcode is needed too.. That Gcode was used in the very beginning and is not necessary today ( it is an impressive Gcode but not needed). Highly recommend scuffing with 000 steel wool and cleaning with IPA after every print.

    Glue Stick is cheap and easy to use, also water soluble. Best of all, it just works. I found that Textured PEI wasnt enough alone to keep my prints from coming un-stuck especially when printing at higher speeds on my BambuLabs printer, so I had to take to using glue stick despite everyone and their mom saying its unnecessary and doesnt help on PEI. Could be that my environment is too cold or that theres a lot of particulants in the air here, but glue stick has been a super cheap and easy fix. I dont even have to use it every print, just ever 3-4 prints, and it keeps my prints secured to the bed. It'd be nice to not need/rely on Glue Stick, but im not willing to spend and arm and a leg on build plates and testing when gluestick is so cheap and easy to solve the issue.

  • @oldsalty3d122

    If you haven't yet, you should try the textured sheet by Thekkiinngg. I've been using it for the past few weeks, and not one failure. And it works with the lidar if you like using that. As far as using PETG it's always recommended to use glue stick as a release agent. When COVID first started I was using one of my PEX sheets to print face shields using PETG, it didn't look like it was damaging the plate at first, but over time it did start to scar up the PEX sheet. I'm like you, I hate using glue stick, but when printing with PETG I'll switch over to using the Bambu Labs Engineering plate with the glue stick.

    • @futureethan
      @futureethan  Год назад

      Thanks for the suggestion! Looking into it now. Hows the bottome layer texture? Is it super noticeable like on the BBL Texture Sheet?

    • @oldsalty3d122
      @oldsalty3d122 Год назад

      @@futureethan it is very noticeable. I tried various filaments on mine today, ABS worked very well. I printed multiple 4hr plus prints using ABS and none of them warped, and once plate was fully cooled down they self released. ASA stuck a little hard though, I might stick to the glue stick and Bambu Engineering plate for now if I want to print with ASA. TPU also worked very well. I did not try PETG, I’ve ordered a second plate just so I can do quick swaps of the plates after a print is finished. Once I get the spare sheet I’ll give PETG a try. That way if it does damage the sheet I’ll have a second one ready to go. About a week ago the Thekkiinngg web site was down for some reason. My guess is they were out of stock. I think it’s just a one man operation out of Canada.

    Is the bed surface actually metal ? Or is just a sheet like the golden smooth PEI from aliexpress ?

      The bed's surface is PEX which is a surface on top of a metal flex sheet similar to a PEi flex sheet.

      @@futureethan have you use one of those golden PEI ones ? If so, would you say PEX is worth the extra money?

      I have tried the energetic ones from aliexpress. Same problem with petg. If you are just using pla, both work great.

      I bought some but have not used it yet. What plastics have you printed with it? Which sheet do you use it with?
