Feroz Shah thanx
Club de nuit intense man... it does the work of Aventus. Spend the money on Creed Viking
Thanks man, I was just about to comment that a list is helpful, by the time it was nearing the end, I had forgotten about the front end of the video.
Too fresh. I recommend sampling Amouage and Xerjoff for those new to fragrances.
Except for Versace Eros, the simplest and most synthetic woody fragnance i've ever smelled. Btw thanks for list.
Thanks for the info. OK you guys, I've used "Davidoff's Cool Water" , "Acqua Di Gio" , "Versace" and a throwback from my younger days, "Grey Flannel". I just purchased "Dior Savage" and "Mont Blanc Legend Spirit". I almost always have received compliments from all the ones I use. We'll see what happens with the new ones. I'm still in the game even though I'm older now, so I still take pride in how I look and how I smell. By the way guys........I'm 73 !
Great fragrence choices
73 huh and you still LOVE your fragrances, that's how I'm going to be.... FRAGRANCES ARE GREAT....
👍👍💪💪💯💯
Have you ever tried Jaipur EAU DE Perfume by Bucheron. I’m also 73 .
Savauge my friend savauge
“We’re NOT DEAD Yet, we just happen to be a little older!”
Right!! 😆👍
Rudy Labsilica best line! Def stealing it
lol I was just about to post that. I literally laughed out loud when he said that
live long Sir
Exactly sir lol some younger men act like there already any how..lol
Well I am a single 50 year 6'4" old man and wear Versace eros, and am certainly a hit with the spicy senoritas!! So, if I can do it - so you can too!!! Salut!
Glad to hear it!
Awesome list! I totally agree with your picks! A number of these I’ve owned, and thanks to this vid I will soon own the rest of them. Thank you!
I just turned 30, but absolutely enjoy your channel and your character, keep it up!
These are my favorites fragrances:
1. Creed - Mellisime Imperial
2. Chanel - Bleu de Chanel
3. YSL - La Nuit de L’Homme
4. Givenchy - Gentleman Givenchy
5. Creed - Green Irish Tweed
6. Armani - Acqua Di Gio Profumo
Although Creed has amazing scents, the performance is very disappointing!!! And they cost more than designer brands!!!
There is a fragrance by Dior called Eau Sauvage Parfum, 2012 vintage that is supposedly a fantastic scent!!! I haven’t had the chance to smell it but from what I understand it’s a classic mature scent without being dated!!! ☮️🖖🏽
Ralph Furley excellent choices
Ralph Furley This could be the list of a very well known reviewer😁
As i am Egyptian i tend to freshening fragrances specially in monrning and summer
My list is as follow:
1. Morning i tend to Bently, Pacco Rabbane Invectious or Bulgarri Aqua
2. For classic events its my top choice will be Paco Rabbane 1 million dollers then Dolce & Gabbana The one
Thats for me but i lived your list and i eill consider trying some of it
I love Narciso Rodriguez for Him EDT, it is amazing, but a little daring, not for everyone, and definitely not under 30, but so smooth and classy
First of all - I am glad you are doing something special for men over 40 - also when it comes to fragrances we don’t need to wear the same designer sweet fragrances like the teenagers do. Two years ago I found myself having the same 5-10 fragrances that I have had for many years and I went to RUclips and found a lot of fragrance reviews and now in the last two years I have bought way to many... So I would like to share some good ones from my collection which fits men over 40 with style and adds confidence....
Acqua Di Parma Colonia for mostly summer and Colonia oud for the winter season
Tom Ford Oud Wood and Tom Ford Ombre leather
Dior Fahrenheit perfume ( new version of a classic but more soft and moderne)
Maison Margiela Across Sands and By the Fireplace ( Fall and winter)
Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Essence Aromatique
John Varvatos Vintage
Hermès Terre D’Hermes
And last but not least three cheap ones...
Bentley for men intense
Bvlgari Man in black
18-21 Man made Sweet Tobacco
Keep looking good and smelling great to all of us
Thank you!
I don't agree with Bentley
I own sauvage,Profumo,Bleu de Chanel,Dylan blue and D&G the one they are great colognes and woman Love it
I just went out and bought a cologne based on your recommendation...thanks for narrowing down the number of options to something more manageable. I liked all of your selections, but in the end fell in love with Mont Blanc Legend. Love how it smells on me! Appreciate all the guidance you provide us 40-somethings!
Thanks John! Legend is great stuff!
Chanel Allure Homme Sport got me tons of compliments at office and swinger club.
Hank Moody love allure home sport. One of my most appreciated fragrance from me & people around me.
Swinger club? Wtf?
Your opening reminded me of the Monty Python movie scene where the guy is calling to the townspeople, "Bring out your dead", and the poor old sot says, "I'm not dead yet!" I guess that tips my hand to my demographics, I'm definitely Over 40! Peace and good luck with your channel.
Don't wear much Cologne anymore, but when I did, Dolce and Gabanna The One was my choice. Had lots of compliments. Nice background to your video, audio was on point as well.
Thanks Michael!
try the latest flanker, the one e.d.p., a stronger, longer lasting version.
Based on your recommendations, I bought them all. I had Creed Aventus already. I like the Zaharoff and Versace Eros, so I have 2 new scents in my collection that are keepers. Thanks, John.
I would also recommend Giorgio Armani Absolu as well. It's very subtle, and it has a woodsy scent.
How's the overall performance????
I use Aqua di Gio Profumo, and I do get that reaction you mentioned, like I'm in charge, people ask me what I'm wearing or say that I smell great! I love to use it specially when I fly, I think it gives me a different treatment from people and I love how I smell and how it makes me feel!
Yes!! Creed Aventus, Dolce & Gabana The One and Versace Dylan Blue are amazing AF.
Also for men over 40, you can’t go far wrong guys with any of the Boss Bottled range, Hugo Boss always come up with great scents for the discerning gentleman 👍🏼
So very true! Boss bottled is an amazing scent ❤️
Very informative video, thanks for covering this topic.
What about ISSEY MIYAKE
L'EAU D'ISSEY POUR HOMME
I've been using it for over 10 years but I still think it smells fresh today. Or maybe I'm stuck in my old ways ?
I just bought the miyake recently it's good very unique smell but dies down hella fast. Very floral. I don't think I'll be wearing it much if u want mine . I have to many others
I use a light fresh scent in warm weather and something heavier in cold weather. Summer = Royale Ambree by Legrain. Before amazon you had to travel to Spain to obtain it. In the winter something with a whiff of patchouli works for me.
My favorite fragrance is the creed aventus and my wife just love the smell of it. I'm also using the JPG Le Male
Love Creed Aventus, I wear the balm. Jack Black, Armani and Polo Black
Definitely can’t go wrong with some Aventus
I got lots of compliments from the ladies when I wear Dior Savage.
Tangomania sauvage
You can't go wrong with Guerlain. Habit Rouge, L'Instant and Vertiver are three of my favourites. Lalique pour Homme (with the lion on the bottle) is great and of course you can't go wrong with Chanel pour Monsieur or Dior's Eau Sauvage. Things are classics for a reason!
I hardly hear anyone mention L'INSTANT or HABIT ROUGE,2 great ones though, not a big fan of Vetiver but I just might get a sample of Guerlains Vetiver....Never tried Lalique...
Solid list man. I'm 28 and I love them all.
Some others to consider: Bulgari Aqua Amara- Dunhill Icon and John Varvatos- Artisan Pure.
Gipsy Avenger Artisan Pure is great! I looked forward to these warmer days throughout winter to finally get to wear it.
I gotta try DUNHILL ICON...
Amara 👌😎
awesome video awesome picks, I like the edp version of Dior Sauvage better I think its a more mature scent in my opinion. I met you at menfluention in February hope to see you next year!!!
Hi Lee! Thanks and yes, I'll see you there again!!
Very honest very real review. I watch a lot of the fragrance channels and you see many of the same ones pop up, it’s good to see just a list from someone who’s not a collector but a user. Great stuff. Subbed.
I like Scentbird. I wish that they would carry more fragrances. But there is a link to ask for a fragrance.
You can never go wrong with John Varvatos scents. 100% positive reaction every time for evening. Mont Blanc for day! 😎
I started to follow you recently and this was one of the first videos I saw. I followed your advice and tried the Montblanc last week and I loved it so much that I bought it. Thank you!
Yes! I’m glad you like it! It is a compliment getter for sure.
Channel Allure, best hands down. I’ve had a lot of compliments with it.
Thanks! I've heard good things about that one too!
Same here, many compliments.
Great list
One more for the colder months and a must try is Maison Margiela - By The Fireplace.
Can be found at Sephora
Get you hands on a sample.
BTW - Great videos 👍😊
Dolce & Gabbana is the one !! Happy u bought it up !! Haven't put on cologne in a long time but used to wear at the work it is D1 sure out of all that I wore! I will get this again
L'HOMME PRADA MILANO and Tom Ford Noir Anthracite. Also SAUVAGE is great.
I work really close to people and found that some in particular really work with my skin. Love your channel. From Australia
Was a CK Euphoria faithful for so so long. Gonna get the Mont Blanc legend spirit now.
I m not dead too! 🤣
that truly needs to be reminded sometimes though
I have Mont Blanc Legend. Smells amazing.
One of those "daily driver" colognes. Wear it all the time
I found that Sauvage EDP is much more of an older gentleman’s fragrance. Sauvage EDT smells very young. The EDP smells like a smooth, rich bourbon to me with a creamy and smokey undertone, like the remains of cigar smoke on clothing. I think mixing those scents with the body chemistry of an older guy would really fit.
The EDT is more citrusy and clean cut, which is great but doesn’t come off as very mature or rugged as Sauvage is described. It also doesn’t last as long (At least on my skin).
Acqua Di Gio Profumo is my favorite of the list and I’m my opinion, the best cologne in history. I’m a younger guy (19), but enjoy more mature smelling fragrances. The DNA is a little overused now, but like 5 years ago? That thing hit the fragrance community like a truck. No one has been able to fully replicate that DNA and most people who aren’t familiar with fragrance won’t be able to immediately recognize the DNA, just that you smell good.
is legend spirit for summer season or winter??
is it projection well?
I like it for spring and summer and it’s got medium projection.
I'm 41 and I have most of this list. I agree with you about Eros and I wear Eros a lot in cold Canada.
Eros is my signature scent. It has a young vibe but classy. Perfect hot weather cologne.
I'm 37 and these are my top 10 (separated by season);
*FALL WINTER*
Creed Royal Oud
Roja Dove Creation E
Dolce & Gabbana The One
YSL Tuxedo
*SPRING & SUMMER*
Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
Tom Ford Neroli Portifino (or Mugler Cologne)
YSL L'Homme
Le Labo Rose 31 (older batches if you can find them)
*YEAR ROUND*
Creed Aventus
Dior Sauvage or Bleu De Chanel
*These frags aren't perfect (performance and batch issues, some are high priced) but they are the 10 best I have ever smelled. I don't think you can go wrong with these.*
*They're interesting, sexy, aren't overly mature or youthful and like I said they smell amazing. Give these a shot. You won't regret it.*
Thanks! I like your list a lot! I have mixed feelings about a lot of the Tom Ford fragrances, but I do keep trying.
Great list! Creed aventus and la labo rose 31 are my 2 favs!
+Genevieve Rachele Rose 31 is a masterpiece. At least it was a few years ago.
When I first tried it (around 2009) it blew me away. I've tried it again a few times over the past year and it isn't the same.
Hopefully it's a batch issue and wasn't completely watered down and reformulated.
+40 Over Fashion You're welcome.
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. RUclips is weird with notifications sometimes.
Tyrone E ..I want to buy a year round fragrance, do you have a favorite of the 3 that you mentioned? Should I consider a clone of Aventus like Parfums Vintage? Would Allure Homme Sport au Extreme be considered year round?
Forty-over Fashion:
I would like to add these following fragrances to your list, as they:
a) Smell great;
b) Project well (even when you are
inside a car);
c) Are long-lasting, and;
d) Are complimented:
01. Ultime (Yves Saint Laurent)
02. Nero (Mazzolari)
03. Dignified (House of Sillage)
Thanks.
Never heard of 2&3 pretty good performance huh????
Came across your channel recently and very much like content ,regards colognes will definitely check out the Mont Blanc just checked price on amazon U.K. And not bad at all, love creed have only ever tried via eBay I,m afraid but the response I have had when I,ve been lucky enough to get a half decent copy has been amazing but cannot justify pulling the trigger on the real stuff just yet,but will definitely check out your suggestions keep up the good work cheers !! Subscribed !
..OK THE OLD GUY IS BACK ! I received the new cologne I just purchased . What you said about "MONT BLANC LEGEND SPIRIT" is true ! I walked into a party and within 3 minutes a young girl turned to me and asked what I was wearing She LOVED it ! She called some of her friends over and litterally said, "Smell him, he smells wonderful " ! I have never had that quick of a reaction to a cologne. Remember, this girl was around 25 or 26 and I'm 73 ! SOLD ON "MONT BLANC LEGEND SPIRIT" ! I'll let you know what happens when I use the other cologne I purchased ," DIOR SAVAGE" . Wish me luck !
YES!!! It's a good one! Glad you (and your new friends) like it!
she has daddy issues
or granddaddy issues
@@MichaelBradenWright Probably, lmmfao....
Why did POLO in the green bottle CHANGE??????? It really sucks that they didn't say anything about the Change at MACYS when I bought it for Xmas, but they still charge the same.
Hi John, I watched the video an year ago. I used MONT BLANC on your recomendation. I think, I will keep using till end of the world.
Thanks for recomendation.
Regards,
I really like your video. You do showcase the experience all you've had and telling the ingredients from the website!! (Thumbs up!) Just curious though is it really the perfume focused on 40's cuz im 29
You spoke about a few of my favorites and a few I will have to try out. I also like Kenneth Cole's ManKind, Givenchy's Gentleman Givenchy, Now here is two I like that most would not even think of - Mary Kay for Men - Domain and High Intensity; one of the tones for High Intensity is Coffee Bean. Also Ed Hardy's Villain - it's a cheap one depending on where you purchase it, however do like it.
Yes Domain is really good
How's the performance on the ones you mentioned???
I have all of these ..
Gucci guilty Absolute
Hermes
Terre D Hermes intense viveter is amazing too
My favourite
Some good choices thier my friend
But I must say creed is my all time number 1
For winter I suggest Dior's Fahrenheit or Chanel's Egoiste, and for the rest of the year Chanel's Platinum Egoiste. Another fresh scent (super affordable) is Eau de Rochas, Eau Sauvage is another classic for warmer weather.
Fahrenheit for winter, Eau Sauvage in summer. Two good calls right there.
Armani Emporio , this one always gets attention for me. Smells amazing
I like the smell of the one. Wish it had a bit better projection and longevity
Thanks John...going to move off my Aqua Di Gio standard I've been wearing for about 6 years and try Mont Blanc (daytime) and Dior Savage (nighttime)
Could you LIST all the ones reviewed in order?
Very interesting, I own Creed Aventis, D&G The One, Armani Aqua di Gio & Prada L’homme (and several others) and concur with the comments and reactions to those.
Great video, keep them coming sir
Thank you! I appreciate your comment!
Fantastic just what I was looking for as I approach 40, I find a lot of fragrences smell too "young" for me so will try some of these out
Try out Terre D’Hermes.....
I’m 38.....beautiful, classy, mature fragrance 👌🏻
Do you ever rate the more upscale brands such as creed? Would love to hear about more of those. My husband has a couple go to's but I would love to expand his collection.
He just did with Creed Aventus.
Legend spirit is my go to!
Mine too! Love that stuff!
My current favourites are the Prada L’homme, Creed Aventus and Versace Eros.
Looking to add Montblanc Legend Spirit and D&G the one to my collection.
Please list colognes in the description. Thx
Love Hermes Fresh very much.
"Bentley Intense for men" is the best grown man scent ever!! and it's affordable.. Great vid these are all good ones!
Thank you my friend! I will definitely have to check that one out!
I'm rockin BI now!! Hella scent!
Just three suggestions for you to check out as well:
1.YSL "Rive Gauche pour homme" - best barbershop fragrance ever period.
2. Chanel "Egoiste Platinum" - awesome and sexy frag for spring and summer
3. Creed "Green Irish Tweed" - the legend.
Tom Ford - Grey Vetiver is my scent! Women love it!
I just turned 57...been wearing cologne since the 10th grade. I was a junior in high school when Polo green came out in 1978. Wasn't a whole lot out there in the 70's except for Old Spice,English Leather and British Sterling. It is amazing how many are out there now! I own some of the same ones you are talking about! Great video!
Oh man, Peter... Polo Green was my absolute favorite back in the day!
There was Halston Z14. I wore that then.
@@christopherleonard247 Yep I forgot about that one! I believe Stetson was out during that time also wasn't it?
I'm just getting into fragrances and your list is pretty good overall covering scents that can be worn on different occasions and covering different seasons.
What about Parfum de Marly, Layton? Suitable for a mature guy?
Ferragamo F black and Pure Malt are very good and masculine fragances. Nice list Sir
Thanks John! I’ve had Fierce and #41 from Abercrombie & Fitch for several years. I really wanted something special now. I picked up Mont Blanc Legend Spirit which grew on me very nicely, Dolce & Gabbana The One, and Armani Aqua di Gio which is my favourite hands down. Wow, love it. I appreciate the recommendations!
Thanks! Glad you like them!
A&F Fierce is the only one I’ve been using for years. Everywhere I go, women come up to me constantly wanting to smell it. They love it and I’m happily married, but it’s always nice to know you’re not dead yet! I’m 58 years old and it never gets old.
Have you tried Oud-based scents? When I was younger, I liked the citrus, fresh aquatic scents. Now, I'm leaning more towards the woody, floral mix. May I suggest you try Ermenegildo Zegna's line, specifically, Indonesian Oud, Haitian Vetiver, or Peruvian Ambrette. New subscriber here. Doing a marathon of your vids. :)
There is Dolce&Gabbana The One edt (2008) and The One edp which came out in 2015. Which one did you have?
On the Scentbird site, it only said; The One For Man.
Oh , now I saw you also added the photo. Before I was only listening without actually watching the video. The photo you added is of the 2015 eau de parfum. Now if they did not specify on their website I guess you can't be sure but from your description it seems to be the edp. Both are very close.
great video full of good choices . I got into fragrances by accident at work .. I just used to wear underarm spray deoderants etc , until I overheard a female co worker saying who sexy Dior Sauvage was on men ... Hmmmm I of course wanted to be one of Those men and secretly purchased a bottle .. Much later and after much looking through all the fragrance videos I made my favorite purchase of D& G The One odp .. omg those tobacco smells took me back to the early 1970’s when all my school teachers smoked a pipe in class ... Then I found Aqua di Gio Profumo and must say this is perhaps the only one that truly gets compliaments . My last purchase and one I love as an office choice is Prada L’Homme .. just sweet and fresh without showing off . Thanks for this video
Strong list my man! Stumbled across your channel while watching something else , you got good taste in fashion, from what i see cologne as well. New subscriber 4sho! Btw, check out Amouage Flection Man, Jazzy Club , YSL L'homme La'Nuit and maybe JPG Ultramale 👍🏾
First let me say that I really love your channel and I appreciate someone being out there for guys over 40. Regarding Scentbird though, I tired them on your recommendation and have had nothing but issues. My first order from almost a month ago has not arrived and there is zero customer service. I checked out their reviews on BBB and they rate an F with more than 400 reviews. I know that this has nothing to do with you, but you might want to rethink recommending them. Again, love your channel and look forward to your future videos.
Thank you Daren! I appreciate this feedback. Thanks for sharing.
What about Issey Miyake? they have a good perfume collection..
I'm not familiar, I'll check it out.
Enjoyed the review. I've tried scent bird and it does help one try out fragrances. Novel idea.
At this point my all time favorite is still Creed's Green Irish Tweed. An absolute timeless, classic scent. Especially for the more seasoned gentlemen.
I'm looking for something to dethrone it. I look forward to trying some of these. Ive tried sauvage and it has became a staple.
I just came across this, a hint about how much to use would be helpful. You know what I mean,
No link for Scentbird
Excellent Choices!
I'm 51 now and a bit of a fraghead! I avoid sweet and simple fresh scents, and the most popular scents worn by that 20-30 year olds like the Versaces and Paco Rabanne 1 Million. An error like wearing slogan T-shirts, skinny ripped jeans, or sports jerseys. There's so much choice to smell both great and reflect maturity. The Prada is good for daytime and Profumo's best suited for the evening. The rest of the John Varvatos range are well worth seeking out.
Edwin, thank you for your comment! I really appreciate your input on this. I will definitely check out more from John Varvatos. Feel free comment back and drop a few other options. Thanks again!
@@40OverFashion I'm a new sub! I would love a video on avoiding style mistakes when trying to appear more youthful. You have a really great variety of uploads
@@adefergus67 Great idea and thanks for the suggestion! I can totally do something like that.
@@40OverFashion cant go wrong with barbershop scents for older men!
@@unklecorky2181 Thanks! I'm not too familiar with that category, but I'll have to investigate!
Good one. Yes very on point.
Thanks for sharing this with us. :)
Thank you for your video. I think it is not about age it all about body chemistry when we choose fragrance
Can't go wrong with the Versace scents. I have 3 or 4 of em n they're all a homerun in my mind. Btw, how many mililiters are those scentbird samples?
Not sure exactly, but I Google'd it and came up with 8ml.
Watch RUclips vid "The Truth About Scentbird" by Gents Scents for all you need to know about Scentbird. They're a crap vendor.
i only use ermenegildo zegna and botega venetta
my all time fav....Cool water
I am still a fan of D&G pour Homme. I know it’s old school, but I am old school! I don’t know if others around me like it, but I like it.
If you like it and it makes you feel confident, that’s what counts.
I love Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme
Jean Paul Gautier ultramale and le male, Bentley for men Intense, sauvage edt for date edp for office, polo supreme leather, Versace oud noir, try those as well
1.Dior Homme Intense
2.Mont Blanc Individuel
3.Terre d'Hermès
4.Tom Ford Grey Vetiver
5.Creed Green Irish Tweed
Thanks for the great tips. BTW.. Love your grey hair. Lol.. pretty sharp.
Eros is not teen frag ..it's real confident man frag .
My favorites right now are Tommy Bahama's St. Barts for day and Spicebomb by Viktor & Rolf for evening.
Eight & Bob is my favorite.
Copenhagen has been my choice since being a teenager, I still get compliments decades later.
Terre d’Hermes, eau de Citron noir from HERMES, vétiver from Murdoch, eau de Tarocco and eau de lierre from Dyptique are my favorite for a long time. I am surprised the men cologne selection in the US is so short compared to Europe.
