I unironically enjoy these comment sections as much as the actual videos, I couldn't think of another channel where that's the case
i enjoy any great short-form art + comedy channel's comments. my fav is JC foster takes it to the moon.
or any great niché art + hobby channel, where the space to represent different takes and experiences is created. my new fav ttrpg channel is CastleCaster, but i thoroughly enjoyed comments on Ryanimeld's for them being wildly specific and diverse, as I'm new to the hobby.
i guess short-form is great for leaving enough space for interpretation and channels we like are bound to attract people we want to hear from

I didn't like his topical videos either. They weren't bad per se but the analysis of the issues at hand were surface level at best. If he makes videos he cares about I'm sure they will be much better since he understands the topic better

The top video RUclips tried to autoplay after this was “I know the REAL PROBLEM with RUclips” with MatPat’s quitting face on it from a creator I’ve never heard of. Even RUclips is playing into this bit.

I think my favorite part of this video was this ironic inclusion of Joel Haver's announcement.
It's wild. Matpat is the only childhood RUclipsr that ended his career without a controversy involving minors.

Love the content, but I'm not a huge fan of attacking people that are upset about the recent RUclipsr meta of retiring/scaling back.
I think it's ok for people to be understanding while still being upset about it all. You have to remember that these OG RUclipsrs were bascially the only ones upholding standards on the site; with them gone, who's going to replace them? Most likely a bunch of fade-haircut content bros with net-zero personality from LA, who are all about profits over creativity. So I think it's fair to be worried about the state and future of RUclips going forward as a result of this, considering all the OGs who still gave off the 2009-era vibe are leaving.
RUclipsrs moving to a second channel is like showing up late to a job you don't like and only putting in half as much effort, i.e., the normal sane thing to do.
Classic mistake, he peaked with Plankton FARTS and DIES, and has been chasing those numbers ever since. This just proves what I always thought, his success is a fluke. I'm gonna fuckin say it, he does miss after all.
I'm glad someone else finally said this. Nobody's "going away", they're just doing different things with their lives. We're still going to be seeing/hearing from them.
Maybe it's RUclipsrs fault by making it seem like they're quitting when they're actually not. Kinda seems like a way to get views from subscribers who haven't watched in a while.

People are surprised they're all happening at around the same time, but people often use the new year as an excuse to change course in their lives, so it's really not surprising.
Honestly excited for the "Man Putting Things Down" era, he never needed to carry so many things just to entertain us.
Masahiro Sakurai (On Creating Games) has also announced he'll be stopping some time this year. Not surprising at all since RUclips is a side project for him and he has already covered a whole lot of topics. Still a little sad to see that end though.

Too many people are just high on the buzz of it all and the context doesn’t really matter to them
Jokes aside, i do feel as though youtube is reaching a new era with these older youtubers leaving (like coryxkenshin for example) and were about to have the next generation of youtubers. Yhe people who once sat watching in middle school and highschool are now old enough to make their own videos. And while alot of it is concerning for gen alpha, i am still hopeful for this slow shift, and i consider Man Carrying Things to be a good start

This is super bittersweet because these creators where like friends to me and now I might not see them anymore, but at the same time I'm happy for their newfound freedom and happiness
For youtube, this is a good sign that creators feel successful enough to step back and let new talent fill the gaps they leave making it a more mature and healthy platform.
For me, it's a sign of how much time has passed and reminds me I'm not a young adult and that nothing ever lasts forever.

Lots of people for some reason: MatPat’s burnt out, he’s sick of RUclips, this must be some sort of conspiracy, RUclips what did you do to these RUclipsrs behind the scenes!? There’s no way they could ever want to do different things unless they’re miserable!
His channel was already a content mill he was barely writing and not editing, him stopping doing the VA work isn't even a big jump.
Those videos were garbage anyway. They barely did their research for the games they had theories for. You could find more information on the games' wikis

I've been using RUclips since 2006, so I've had this experience with several creators. Change is hard, but I completely understand the need for it. I spent almost seven years in my last job position at work and I felt like I was going through the motions. Even when you're good at something or make good money, that doesn't mean it's meant to sustain you forever. I'm happy for anyone who gets to bow out on their own terms and envious of the ones who've made enough money to take a break.
I love the RUclipsrs saying „I’ll leave for good“ and a month later they’re back with even more views, decent tactic and many abuse it to get hype again
If matpat pulls that, the internet will probably rejoice.

The fact that it’s okay to quit RUclips is a good thing. Do we really want people keep making content after they’ve stopped wanting to?
You can tell by watching most of these videos that the creators themselves have a plan that they're excited to work on, and they have everything sorted out.
It seems like in each of these videos, their biggest concern is how their audience will take it.
That's the hook..... What others think and feel. Not how does this serve my passion for life and caring then it gets twisted into getting likes, SEO, algorithms...... Endless effort that has to be made better

At least he warned us, and with its own video. Ralphthemoviemaker tacked his warning at the end of a review for an obscure movie no one cares about so that most of us didn't even know until years later. Meanwhile, ProZD didn't warn us at all before making his entire channel about eating snacks and making tier lists. I didn't know he stopped making skits until he made a whole video about the unfair expectations placed upon him to... make content.

The thing is, ProZD never made youtube a "professional" thing. He just did what he wanted to do. It is an unfair expectation for him to keep doing the same thing over and over again when he has never said that was the goal of his channel. His channel was always just "I upload whatever I want to"

I think more so for me and many others its the fear of the unknown and knowledge that the content people make isn't going to be the same anymore. I perfectly understand why alot of the youtubers who are going into retirement are doing so, but since myself and many others grew up watching them, its like finding out an old friend is moving to a different country. They're not dead or anything, but it wont be the way it was anymore
I'm in the opposite camp...even though I've been at this insanity since the first year of youtube's existence, I've NEVER been successful, yet every time I try to quit I just get bored/passionate about something and come crawling back :)
