  • The F1 2020 calendar is a bit patchwork, for obvious reasons. So with the news that F1 is returning to places like the Nurburgring and Imola, why not Adelaide? I mean... What could possibly go wrong?

They probably could. It’s a street track so the FIA could change the barriers, suggest new layout changes etc. Because it hasn’t hosted F1 for years, the organisers don’t need to keep it to the highest standard. But since the pit buildings and grandstands are all temporary, they could easily be modified and made bigger too to keep up with the demands of F1.

I don't see this as any worse a track than Monaco (it's actually wider). Thanks for the memories - and for making me feel old! In 96, I had number 4 kiddo...
I remember there being some serious mutterings in the UK about losing Adelaide and changing it to the first race of the year. You can tell we were annoyed, the mutterings actually got quite loud.
Great fastest lap, btw. I've taken to staring at the track rather than the HUD. It's way more realistic if you do that. Much as I still don't feel the appeal of sim racing, I do enjoy your various demonstrations. I guess it's because I'm learning something. Whatever the reason, thank you!

The first Adelaide Grand Prix was the first I ever went to. The modular track walls used every where now were ground breaking as every where else it was just wire fences that journalists cut so they could get decent pictures. Drivers loved the track, it was just that the run off at the end of the main straight was too short! Organizers promised to do what they could to make it longer before practice, the next morning it was the longest run off on the track. I have always believed that was a deliberate ploy to show off what was possible

To see others appreciate the circuit/race is nice. Right now it’s sad to see our corrupt government cancel and attempt to kill the Adelaide 500 V8 Supercars, which are important for the economy and continuing the strong Motorsport heritage of South Australia. If you’re not aware I think the infrastructure for the circuit has been sold already and there has been a very silent redevelopment of Victoria Park into wetlands. Most of this has been done in the name of COVID despite allowing AFL, the Fringe Festival and other events to go ahead 🤦🏻‍♂️

It could be easily done. 3/4 of the circuit is still used for V8 Supercars anyway and hasn't really changed since 1995. The extended part down East Tce to Rundle Rd is basically unchanged. It would require a median strip to be lifted out of the road.
That said, The Bend circuit was built to be able to host F1. It would be there.

If I have my way, the Adelaide 500 would be moved to latter on in the year, and use the longer version of this track. As part of it the Adelaide 500 will be a part of a 10 day long motor show. Where the first Friday, Saterday, and Sunday will be used for the Supercars. Monday through to Thursday would be used for Track days for ammeters race drivers race on the track. a round of the Australian LeMons series, and long with automakers to show off new cars that are going to come on to the markets. That will happen between 10AM to 4PM. Then the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be used for the F1's. And while Melbourne still host the Australian F1GP, this round will be billed as the Pacific F1GP, and it would be the last race of the year. In if the contractual frame work would be agreed on. Doing so there would be leave room for the Supercars long with the F1 can race here while not stepping on each commercial rights stake holders.

It can be almost the same, but not the same. You see, what was Banana Bend back in the day (turns 7 and 8 before Stag Turn) has actually been moved. Adelaide gang gang, if you are ever bored you should see the last few laps of V8 supercars race there in 2014, Scott McLaughlin vs Jamie whincup

I'd imagine that first corner chicane would end up being another Singapore sling.

Mate, the supercar track cut out the 2 best corners on the track. If you wanted to make a valid argument for Adelaide you need to race on the GP layout. You can drive the original layout on rFactor 2.

How can you see mid-corner? Your hand covers the whole view of the track.

Have you done Watkins Glenn already? Old F1 track that is currently used for IMSA and makes for fun races.

that first chicane not even having a breaking point in this spec of car is why f1 won't ever be back at adelaide lol.
that among other things, but that is the most eye catching for sure.

I love that you are doing these series. However, i feel you dont do the track justice in this case by doing the Adelaide 500 layout instead of the old F1 one.

The Clipsal 500 layout gives a more HOLY SHIT feel. That's why I went for it.

@@AidanMillward watching the clock on your lap, i feel, and ive had this thought for years now, that the full track would be too short. What do you think?

If they were to go back to Adelaide they would be going to “The Bend Motorsport Park” which is a purpose built multi faceted motor race venue.

Adelaide technically has only ever had one active layout. The layout that the v8's use now didn't ever exist until 1999, 4 years after f1 had left.
Also Monaco has two layouts. The one used by f1 and the one used by formula E.

I'm an Adelaide local, and it would be great to see F1 return to the full circuit. Unfortunately, this can never happen again as there have been permanent changes made to the old "Banana Bend" section of the track. There is now a bus tunnel which exits where the bend used to be. That said, it wouldn't be to much of a change if it were to go ahead. Like some other people have mentioned, there has always been a plan to extend the circuit more south into Victoria Park, utilising the current permanent heritage grandstand which was used for horse racing. This will allow the track to be extended, and hence allowing for a longer pit lane. Lastly a few years ago, we did have a modern Ferrari F1 car do some hotlaps around the track, and it was great hearing that sound again!! See the link.
