    Extra info I missed in my headache induced daze:
    Panis is also the last Frenchman to win a race, although Romain Grosjean and Jean Alesi would score podiums. Panis was also one of four drivers to win a Grand Prix in 1996, alongside Hill, Villeneuve and Schumacher. Which makes the four winners of 2017 seem not so bad after all. In fact, 1998 saw only four winners as well: Hakkinen, Coulthard, Schumacher and Hill.
    After sulking up in the Ferrari motorhome for a while, Schumacher emerged to face the media. “I am extremely upset,” he told them.
    “Upset and angry with myself, because I alone am responsible for this mistake. It’s an incredible mistake. I hit the kerb, couldn’t control the car, it’s all my fault.” Not like Schumacher to admit he’d cocked up, is it?
    His first win for Ferrari would have to wait. But while it hadn’t been a successful day for Schumacher, at least his helmet had returned to the podium.
    Panis collected the tricolour on his in-lap. “When I was handed the French flag I couldn’t resist taking it,” he said. “Ever since I saw Alain Prost do it, I’ve always wanted to see it happen again.”
    “But who could imagine it would be my turn next?”

    Ideas for stories:
    1) 1989 & 1990 Japanese Grand Prix (Senna vs Prost)
    2) Rivaries between Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell.

    Contrary to what Aiden claims, Luca Badoer would not have scored points under the modern system because he wouldn't have been classified due to not completing 90% of the race distance. It doesn't matter what position you "finish", if you don't compete 90% of the race distance, you do not score points.

    I was a big Panis fan , he was a very talented driver and very quick , he was able to match Coulthard and Hakkinen for pace when he was test driver at McLaren in 2000 , sadly he only ever drove mediocre cars apart from the 1997 Prost car which was the fourth best car , if he had not broke both his legs he could have won the French GP that year and would had more podiums , sadly Alain Prost made some bad decisions as a team owner , he should never have switched to Peugeot engines and should have trusted the design team that had designed the 97 car , instead of going to John Barnards design company .

    I'm absolutely loving this series you have put together, excellent content and very well delivered. Its terribly let down by your bias and Schumacher hate, trying to call the 96 Ferrari a good car and discredit what Schumacher achieved in it is a shame to be honest. But, the rest is so good that most of us are letting that slip. Thanks for these stories 👍👍👍

    • @gilbokhan
      @gilbokhan 5 лет назад +2

      It was a 'good' car. Not great. Maybe not the second-best car on the grid as claimed, but 'good'. It regularly qualified in the top six (both cars that is, including contractually-obliged dogsbody Irvine whose average grid position was 6.93 across the 15 races he set a time for) and it never once set a time outside of the top ten on pace. Then again, the other car in the top six regularly swapped between Benetton and McLaren, with the Jordans occasionally sneaking in, whereas the Ferrari's were consistently 'good' across the year, so maybe even then the claim of 'second-best but unreliable' is not entirely unfounded.

      It's his channel..... he can be biased if he wants to, hes not a journalist nor a historian and can tell the "story" (in the title) anyway he choses.........and schumacher deserves any hate he gets EVER....... 94 ring a bell ??? 98 attacking DC for his own mistake at Spa......and as A.M. has said SEVERAL times hes a huge Damon Hill fan, his anti-Schumacher stance or bias if it exists is completely justified and understandable..........and your the only one making these claims about "WE ignore it "........Im a LH fan so I hate Alonso for 07 which is understandable.......

    • @AidanMillward

      In 1998 he spun his car at Monaco, then his ridiculous attempt at spinning the car back round got the car wedged in the opening where rescue trucks were parked and knackered a front wing that tyrrell didn’t really have the money to replace. So the mechanics rearranged the letters on his paddock scooter to say “tosser”.

      Not as long as: A) the glamor of Monaco still entices people, and B) The tradition stretching back to 1929 makes people overlook all its obvious flaws.
      Had it been a modern day race without its tradition it would have been axed long ago. Had it also been identical in its layout but not been located in Monaco it too would have been axed.
      There's your explanation.

    1:25 Dude that Ferrari was a total DOG of a car. Its was unbalanced and had aerodynamics that were 3 years behind the rest of the frontrunning cars. It was anything but decent car.

    • @AidanMillward
      @AidanMillward  5 лет назад +6

      Which is why at power circuits like Imola it went well.

    • @sleepercell9926
      @sleepercell9926 5 лет назад +3

      @@AidanMillward It didn't go well at powerful circuits at all. It always struggled for straightline speed as it had the V10 Ferrari engine in its first year that was down on power compared to Renault and Mercedes and also had horrific aerodynamic drag due to the cockpit sides being so huge and oversized sidepod inlets. I remember Schumacher having to get an indycar style helmet due to the fact the aibox suffered starvation because of the cars bad design.
