One of my favorite places on the AT. Back in the '90s, the trail followed the western ridge, and the views into the gorge were AMAZING!!

*Nice flight over the river. It appears the river claimed the railroad tracks a while ago. 👍*

I have paddled the Nolichucky many times but would be very worried about entrapment issues at this point, particularly the railroad debris.

Water makes its own path. THIS should humble men, who think theyre so smart, and build things, without realizing or acknowledging that GOD is the ONE WHO makes the path. As a professional OTR driver, I drove this area hundreds of times. Truly one of God's most starkly beautiful Creations!!! 🥰🥰

Maybe not a safe place for those guys at 0:18 to stand beside and below the railroad tracks with the ground washed out underneath. It is interesting yo see the awesome power of nature!

Watch Hobo Shoestrings video of riding the rails on this section from Erwin to see what it looked like before the flood

Was the water this unclear previously? It should have settled by now and be running clear I would think, especially over rocks, but it’s clearly not and the water seems filled with sediment or something else to make it the brown colour still.

In the spring when the rain comes and some people in kayaks or rafts try and run the river, will probably hear about someone drowning.

@@trvman1 People have been running the Nolichucky and many many others for years and occasionally someone is lost. So why would next spring be any different that before??

Anybody that is getting in the river now is an idiot. They might want to check in with the ones testing the water because the last I heard its a no go zone. NC has posted warnings to keep out of the river
