This is no different than chaining an elephant and poking it with a stick to make it so tricks. And anyone who enjoys such activity is likely a psychopath as well.

    I had a dragonfly nymph in my aquarium once. I didn't notice until it was sitting on the bubbler tubing. It shed too, then escaped through the gap in the tank.
    I've also had a mystery snail escape my tank 🤣
    Gave me a fright/thought I was losing my mind - couldn't find it in the tank. It slimed out through the gap in the lid and fell behind my dresser. Left a trail of slime in the carpet. Put him back in the tank and he survived - gulped down a ton of water right away.

    I'm gearing up to start my first planted tank, so I've been watching a ton of videos on various topics from different channels to help me plan. Your is the only channel I've subbed to, and the reasons are:
    1. The daily timelapses showing the plants grow gradually (why doesn't everyone do that?!)
    2. The Satie music. I looooooooooove Satie, and it's so rare to hear the gnossienes in addition to the gymnopedies. And not talking at all, just using captions and focusing on the music.
    Those are what makes your channel really stand out, just feedback for you in case that's helpful... since you get so many comments saying "I don't know why, but I love this." Best of luck to you; I'll be watching!

    I had a damselfly nymph hitch hiker as well. It stalked around my tank and really worried me, but there were no casualties. I guess they're less dangerous than dragonfly nymphs. In the end I actually got to see it as it finished emerging, and I left it after watching for a while. I left the window open, and never saw it again. Very cool experience.

      You're welcome! If you look closely, you can see the internal organs of the gourami (the yellowy bit below the lateral line). The males have the organs curving round and up towards their spine, whereas the females have a more triangular shape of their organs (these are the ovaries) with the point of the triangle stretching toward the tail. This is easier to spot during breeding though. For example, the fish at 2:36 is a male, and I believe the fish on the left at 3:00 is a female.

    Hey Foo, I would really appreciate a reply I'm having so much trouble. Where do you find your plants??? I can't find any good sources for plants to start my tank (online, stores, anything), also I wanted to know really simply how you get/make your de-chlorinated water and what do you use? Love the videos.

      @Cody-mu5sj 6 лет назад +1

      Paul Moody dechlorinated water comes from putting dechlorinator in water. You can find water conditioner at any fish store for 5-13 bucks. I recommend seachem prime, but the Tetra brands also work. Plants are also at lots of local fish stores. Ask for low light plants, they can give you plants such as hornwort or Java fern which will grow under most conditions

      Thanks Cody, the advice you gave me was perfect! As far as the plants go I'm still stuck, some fish stores have plants but not nearly as much as foo/other channels have access too. Do you/anyone have any advice on the plants? Money is not a problem I just can't seem to find any good websites that sell them, or stores to get from.

      Paul Moody depends where you live. I can help if you live in Canada or the US. In Europe, most plant producers are located there, so you need to find their locations.

    Love it, but did the gourami ate all the shrimp eggs?

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 лет назад

      amano shrimp don't breed in fresh water. I haven't noticed the wild shrimp carrying eggs. I think the wild shrimp are still too young.

      that was the fish flakes he gathered up and ran away with so that the fish wouldn't get it.

    How are the fish fish doesn’t good without water or movement or filtration? Is it the amount of plants you have?

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 лет назад +24

      yes, the plants are the filter.

      Gouramis can live in stagnant waters and plants (and bacterias on all surfaces) is the filter here

    Why such low quality flakes? You usually give your fish the best food it seems, why not this time?

    Nice to see my gourami weren't the only ones that spit out the food multiple times. I didn't really know that's how all gourami feed on flakes. I kept thinking the food wasn't to their liking. I love pearl gourami but I'd need a much larger tank for just one of them.

    Lovely videos. Incredible dedication. I saw the 2 months update and I instantly started caring about every little being in your tank. It was so nice to see that every creature lived peacefully together...until the fish. RIP little shrimp. I dread to see what's going to happen next. Praying for the nymph to be ok.

    Love the eyes on those Gouramis; beautiful things. There was a small pond that I used to swim in in Nevada that was full of Gouramis; it had multiple little hot-spring jets coming in from the bottom and one enormous outflow from a cave; a thermometer I took with me on one Winter's day showed a steady temperature at around 88 degrees. As for where the Gouramis came from, I'm guessing someone dumped them into the pond and they bred like crazy; they were considerably larger than your beautiful little ones.

    I'm seriously thinking of doing a 10 gallon tank and sticking it with these beautiful lil nano fish. I saw 2 in my local pet store. One was a a fry, the other was a full grown adult all by itself

    New subscriber here. What you have accomplished here is my ultimate nano goal. I have a 5 gallon rimless cube that I'm itching to do something low-tech with, and I am floored by the beauty and simplicity you've achieved here. I want to achieve something similar, but I would like to try it with moss, spiderwood, and a couple small variety crypts. I'm taking notes and looking forward to the next update on this series. Well done!

    Had a planted shrimp tank and thought it would be nice to get 4 of these. Of the 15 shrimp I had in there, I can only see 5 now. I really hope that they are hiding too well and were not devoured.
    I named the biggest gourami Hannibal, since he's the most aggressive. The smaller one is Clarice. The last 2 ones are Jason (bigger of the 2, named after Friday the 13) and the smaller one is Freddy (Nightmare at Elm street).
