  • Merry Christmas from Steel City Trains!!!
A gift for you is a compilation of trains throughout the month of December and the Christmas season. We are located in our usual spots but caught some good ones moving through the Mon Valley.
First train is at milepost 12 on Norfolk Southern's Mon Line. A hotshot intermodal train heads south toward CP-BELL in Duquesne.
The next angle is shot facing south at milepost 12, and here we can see NS 9708 pulling hard to keep a heavy coal train moving passed the Waterfront's main entrance and northbound to Pittsburgh.
The next is on the adjacent CSX track to the Mon Line, where a four engine fleet of two SD50s, a GP40-2, and a road slug pull a rather short industrial commodity consist over the Pinkerton's Landing Bridge and up north through Pittsburgh.
Passed CP-BELL, the Mon Line extends south to its most industrial areas. In Dravosburg, we catch another coal train out of Shire Oaks Yard headed northbound up the Monongahela River. Roaring by is a lash-up of an ES44AC, and an SD70ACe.
Back up north to milepost 13 on the Mon Line, we catch foreign power on the trailing end of a lash-up that included NS 6962, and CP 8551. The NS unit was an SD60E, and Canadian Pacific showed its power with an AC44CW. The engines pulling intermodal freight, muscled through the Mon Valley and back onto the Pittsburgh Line.
The infamous "Trench" on the north side of Pittsburgh, is home to Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line. The two main tracks and two industrial tracks lye within the terrain as thundering trains shake the ground of Allegheny Commons Park. Here we see some activity from the Allegheny Valley Railroad, pulling a long and heavy mixed freight load, with five engines powering through the trench on the furthest industrial track. The next clip is the return of the lash-up after having stopped in a local yard further down the line.
Finally, we end with a big one! NS 1096 and 8795, pull a full consist of crude oil tank cars eastbound through the trench. The pulling power is immense as an SD70ACe, and a Dash-9 Narrow Nose pulls hard on the mainline out of the city.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from SCT!
    Enjoy!
