I really like TGTB and AAR combination! I use the AAR as the 20 minutes of reading at the end of the TGTB lessons. Sometimes we can’t get both done, but for the most part we’ve really enjoyed it and both my kiddos have really excelled with reading.

I feel like they really do compliment each other really well! I love hearing how others do both, thanks for sharing!!

Great video! It's going well this year but yes like you said it's so hard finding that perfect plan for language arts especially for the early years like 1st grade. I'm not a fan of all in one but also having seperate handwriting, English, reading , spelling, and writing is exhausting and i definitely can't get to all of it every day . We only do social studies and science once a week but I feel like we discuss those things organically at random parts of the week like in the car or when my son wants to know how something works. I was going to try to do two math curriculums this year and that lasted not even a week lol

Haha we sound so similar! It really is so hard to find the perfect LA. We finally have settled on combining AAR and TGATB and that seems to be working well for us for this year at least lol. We also didn't make it very far trying to do two math curriculums lol.

I felt like all about reading took forever to add new concepts, but I also found that the good and the beautiful moved pretty quickly and didn't have enough repetition. That's why I think adding in something in addition to the good and the beautiful to help with repetition is very helpful. Does anyone feel the same way?

Yes! This is exactly how I feel about the two curriculums! I have decided to do both and just sort of switch back and forth when I feel like my son needs it

I tried to do the 180 days of Social Studies and the Science one last year when my son was in preschool. Boy, I did not like those. This year, I am doing Abeka K5 for my kindergarten son, and my 4 yr old daughter listens in too. We are almost done with TGATB Sparks and Stars. We will do Mammals after break. We do Science Mon and Tues. SS is Wed and Thurs. I am enjoying those so much more than the 180 days.

I just posted an update where I shared how I do NOT like 180 days lol it seems so pointless. We are actually working through the Little Hearts and Hands first unit now too!
