The first time I heard this song, I was shocked at how talented he is and how he can maintain the energy level throughout the song without fatigue. He's amazing and I love this performance. Many of us who knew him before (or even watched him live) already have dissected his method, style, technique of singing, whether he sings jazz, R&B, hip hop, gospel genre music, etc., that during the advent of his debut in the music world in his younger days, everyone took notice immediately and they were asking to know more about this phenomenal singer. In a short time he swept everyone off their feet with his unbelievable talent of performing and singing, whether recorded or live, that he was often referred to as the "Al Jarreau" of the Philippines back then but mostly today he goes by the tag, "Mr. Pure Energy" given the fact he can move/dance like Michael Jackson also. Female audiences couldn't help but be ecstatic during his live concerts.

Here in Philippines.. we call him Mr. Pure Energy. Because he can also dance well.
The jazz song SPAIN was first composed by Chick Corea and released back in 1973. Then jazz singer Al Jerreau put in the lyrics in 1980. When Gary Valenciano did this cover song, he did it the jazzy way in scat form, what we call voice percussion back in the day and you presently call it - beat boxing, I think. With his vocals he emulated various musical instruments such as the drums, conga, guitar, bass, trumpet, sax and even the triangle as he moves his body to it's rhythm. He totally immerses himself in the song. The musicality in him is simply awesome. Gary Valenciano is known in the Philippines as MR. PURE ENERGY himself. The guy is a legend in our country. His title, since we are so big on titles in our country, is Mr. Pure Energy. The guy can literally dance as good as his singing and as fast as well. He started his career emulating Michael Jackson from his singing and his dancing and now evolved to one of the best adventurous singers in the country. I said adventurous because music genre seems to not limit this person. And if that still doesn't impress you, let me tell you that he is doing all of these while suffering diabetes. The dude has to inject insulin every day or else he would almost immediately drop dead..
Gary is amazing, and everyone in our country knows that quite well. You're amazing too. I think you're the best coach to do reaction videos. I don't know if you heard the songs before you break it down on your videos, or you're doing it impromptu. But for someone who has no idea about, "cry, runs, vocal agility", and so on, watching u immitate those notes helps me learn a lot. :) you're doing a good job, you're amazing as well. love you n your vids.

Thank you for reacting at last to Gary Valenciano, regarded as one of the legend singers in the Philippines that younger generations are looking up to. He produced more than 30 albums so he really knows how to produce music. You should react to his prodigy Katrina Velarde sing this same song with him on st sage, then see how amazing Katrina on her own too. I would recommend her impersonating singers no 3 for a start. This song was originally an instrumental by pianist Chick Corea in the 70's. Al Jarreau added lyrics in 1980. There are live versions of Gary performing this song with Katrina Velarde, who Gary met when he was a judge at the X-Factor Philippines in 2012. She became one of his backup singers for a while. The best version is "@ the Town Hall".
