In this video, which forms the second part of a series, John Barnard sets out to share some of the tips used by professional boat painters for getting the best possible results when attempting a full narrowboat repaint. John describes some of the equipment used to get a boat back to bare metal and how to prepare the surface for the first coat of paint.
John runs a traditional narrowboat painting business from his base at Debdale Wharf near Market Harborough.

I've never used a scabbler. What happens when it hits a patch of filler? Presumably it all comes off and you have to refill?

I know it’s been 9 years and may well be out of production but what was the model of Bosch Orbital sander you used to remove the paint?

Hi John, I was impressed with the way your first angle grinder dispatched the top coat of paint. Could you tell me what attachment was fitted, ie. Course Sanding disc 30 grit maybe (dont think) or some other kind of abrasive ( more likely)

Hi John just wondering who sells the tool you use for removing the paint because I can seem to find anyone here in Ireland that sells them because I could really do with one. Thanks

Should the bare steel be given a protective coating within 30 minutes of exposing it to the air?
