She was always sending letters to the BBC over stupid minor things can't remember what show it was but one of the characters ends up getting pushed over or something comically and she wrote a letter saying there was no need for that violence that it wasn't family friendly. It was probably a sketch in the two Ronnies or something. A lot of comedians at the time roasted her, trouble was she amassed such a following that the networks actually had to listen to her demands otherwise their ratings would suffer tremendously. Whenever I think of her now I wonder what she would do if she saw what was in tv and music etc it makes me laugh thinking about it.
Fun Fact: Mary Whitehouse was also the same prude that went after the movie Industry and gave us the Video Nasties list back in the 80s. Speaking as a collector,Thanks for making my video shopping that much more easy.
Dee Snider hit it head on. Some of the haters at the time were LOOKING for a reason to bash and hate on metal at the time. Majority of those musicians weren’t even that extreme. Music is up to interpretation. It’s crazy that you could try and take them to court over lyricism and music interpretation.
I'd love if heavy metal had a bigger audience so more people could enjoy it, but with a fandom like metalheads, who dont even get along in the different subgenres of metal and throw shit at each other, metal will mever succeed among the big masses. That's why lots of people hate on metal heads too, most of them are insufferable and intolerant to even other genres of metal, imagine bringing another music into conversation that isn't even metal.
Preach! I don't even want to call myself a metalhead even tho i like metal because the fandom is too toxic, worse than even kpop fans who are only good at talking shit, while the metalheads are ready to commit murder and fights to prove a point, it's creepy.
Mainstream mass appeal is where good things go to die. There's already plenty of modern metal bands which are gunning for a pop spot and it's doing nothing good for the genre or what that band individually could have been. It's tragic seeing bands put out early albums these days filled with traces of how great they could be just to betray themselves and bleed themselves for a passing moment in the sun by the next. Adversity is the crucible which produces quality - take that away and you just end up with husks who could put out anything and there'd be ten million and one people mindlessly funding and consuming it. What's the point? Old bands like Maiden which got insanely big are only still producing things worthy of their potential because of the environment they had to overcome and it instilled an integrity, commitment and discipline you rarely get anymore. Metal's already at a point where it attracts the attention of people with no understanding or care for the culture and history. It doesn't need to go further.
Marilyn Manson is so incredibly well spoken. It's so UNBELIEVABLY satisfying to watch him give such amazing and genuine responses to the same question he gets asked over and over. And with every response is kickass "checkmate" point MADE
"Have you ever had surgery with your arms and legs strapped down?" - Yes, it's called a C-section, and I'm sure there are quite a few more surgeries where they strap you down when you only have local anaesthesia, because you MIGHT move even thought you don't want to. What an idiot. Any doctor could have told him that.
5:23... sad wings on destiny is maybe one of my all time fav albums from any genre, anytime, any musical group, the person who said that obviously was just talking to talk.
I think it's funny when people say a band "sells out". Like...when you become a commercial artist or band isn't that the point is to make money? I mean if you play gigs and earn money, you're not just doing it because you enjoy it, you're doing it because it also pays you to do it.
I think it's just pure jealousy, to be honest. Imagine watching someone who is getting paid a shit-ton of money for doing something they love, while you're stuck in a soulless, dead end job for minimum wage. There's two ways to go; either applaud their good fortune or try and bring them down to your level. There's too many prepared to tear down rather than toast success. Personally, I admire anyone who has had the balls to do what they love and make a living out of it, because it's never as easy as it appears.
People always say that when small bands make it big. They feel like they have to share a band that was only created for them, or some similar strange logic. I remember how mad people got when Metallica cut their hair, calling them sellouts. What a stupid thing to get mad about.
Oh man when Rob H. told his story-----my jaw fell on the floor, first of all if that dudes name got out he'd have a miserable rest of his life coz every where he went he'd hear how he was the guy that said that shit to Mr. Rob Friggin Halford. Besides people like that are just ignorant and dont know when to shut it. Thank You to Loudwire for showing the rest of the world that ALL of their assumptions and stereo typical judgements of artists in the Rock/Metal are wrong 🖤🖤🤘🤘💯💯 By the way, I'm sharing the crap outta this video too!!!
Despite his popularity as a former vice president and an environmental activist, Al Gore is always going to be a chump because of his wife's campaign against the growing popularity of heavy music back in the 80s.
As the mother of a musician and song writer I completely understand their need to express themselves and have always encouraged my son to do whatever what he thinks is right for him. I mean I get it. The stuff that people write about is often questioning and trying to understand the world around them and their place in it. One day my sister asked me if I knew what he was writing about. I said 'of course I do. When he writes something new he comes to me and says mom I wrote a new song today. Do you want to hear it?' 'Of course I do' I respond. And he plays his newest song for me. I say to my sister ' oh fuck, imagine that. My son has an outlet for his thoughts and feelings. Well damn that he has that and accesses it. Call me crazy but I'm happy that my son is thoughtful and can express himself'...What???
There's a damn good reason why musicians get the better of haters and that's because they are smarter than they are given credit for. I imagine the case against Dee Snider, the PMRC thought they'd have it done and dusted in a matter of minutes, but failed to realise that Dee isn't some muscle-headed musician, but actually a thoughtful and articulate man who tore apart their feeble arguments with very little effort. And as for Alice Cooper, sending thank-you gifts to the haters for inadvertently boosting his career is a touch of class!
I'm a lady in her 40s who has screamed DIE! DIE! DIE! at the 3 Metallica concerts I've been at over the last 30 years; and guess what? I have never killed anyone, nor had the inclination. Music (especially heavy metal and rock) and listening to it and participating in it at a live concert, is simply a release... and we ALL need that :) Its healthy.
Putting David Letterman in here wasn't fair. He was a fan of Marilyn Mason and specifically had him come onto his show to give him a platform to set the record straight.

Everybody needs to have a few haters during their lifetime...as the saying goes "When people u don't even know hate u, that's when u know you're the best." Always loved that saying.
always good to see a band or singer, even if you're not fond of them, use their brain to outmatch an interviewer or politician instead of a hate filled tweet or "French you!"
I was at that show that Maria Brink was talking about. It was at Ozzfest 07 in CT. A bunch of people in the crowd started chanting and she stopped the show and told them all off. There are some videos if you search for it.

Lemme do a Metallica rip: You made your mark I love all your old stuff I could care less if you guys went on tour doing justin bieber covers. The only thing I hated about Metallica (now I just really do not care) was the whining about people downloading their music, I am just all like I bought 5 copies of your master of puppets 7 copies of and justice for all 2 copies of kill them all 3 copies of the black album and have bought over 70 t-shirts so if ten years later I want to download a song, MOTHER FUCKERS YOU HAVE BEEN PAID!!! Where's the "10 reasons 2019 did/didn't suck"?
No shit, we finally got a TOOL album!
not this year. the tool album finally happebed
New slipknot, arch enemy, rammstein, tool album definitely was a good year for me
The first scene is a simple but invaluable golden rule that would make the world a much better place if we all followed it.
Exactly
I am now 56 yrs old and will forever be a die hard metallion...now even more glad my son follows my foot steps.at the end of the day its music...a universal language.
I'm the same as you except I'm 55✔️
@@prs149 right on bro👍
Marilyn Manson is so smart. I would never want to be on his bad side.
Even more so since all the abuse allegations have come up..
When I hear Interviews from Dee Snider, I'm always blown away by how well he puts into words what he feels.
The Mary that Alice Cooper talks about is the same Mary that Deep Purple sings about in their song called Mary Long.
And Pink Floyd, too! In their song "Pigs" they talk shit on her in the final verse.
I'm pretty sure she gets mutilated in "Roses on white lace" , finishing with, "her names spelt M A R Y , Gail, gaaaaiiillll." Gotta love Alice.
All of these could have been Marlyin Manson
Cuz he's smart as hell and won't take shit from anyone!
I swear, he needs to take a bag of microphones with him to every interview. Nearly every statement he makes can be accompanied with a MICDROP
Who is Marlyin Manson??
I know a guy named Marilyn Manson, not the one you named
Well this comment aged like eggs.
1:36 One of the greatest burns in history.
The Ramones song "Censorshit" plays in my head every time they show clips from the PMRC hearings
Dee Snider hit it head on. Some of the haters at the time were LOOKING for a reason to bash and hate on metal at the time. Majority of those musicians weren’t even that extreme. Music is up to interpretation. It’s crazy that you could try and take them to court over lyricism and music interpretation.
I Adore them all.
Thank you very much. God Bless Always. Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸 Nostrovia
STAY POSITIVE !!!
I guess you weren't around when thrash was getting big or iron maiden days, black sabbath, alice cooper or even glam was huge in the late 80s
Odd i havent had that issue in the thrash scene. Good blokes that look out for eachother.
@@adecentdelinquent8986 thats not even close to accurate.
Liberating yourself from other peoples opinions is something that feels so good. Standing up for your very presence is a beautiful thing.
I always fall for the intro like it's gonna sing " I'm an alligator". David bowie song, moonage daydream.

Bruh, sad wings of destiny is a great album
5:23... sad wings on destiny is maybe one of my all time fav albums from any genre, anytime, any musical group, the person who said that obviously was just talking to talk.
Manson is a genius
Rob Halford is amazing. I truly love him 💖🤘🏽
billie joe armstrong's response to a letter from a "concerned parent"
0:11 I feel like in every video I see Nergal in he has that same shirt on.
Exactly, it's their job they love and enjoy and also gain money from, so why does it bother those trve kvlt thots?
People always say that when small bands make it big. They feel like they have to share a band that was only created for them, or some similar strange logic. I remember how mad people got when Metallica cut their hair, calling them sellouts. What a stupid thing to get mad about.
Instantly the who's lyrics popped in my head when Alice Cooper said who are you.
I REALLY WANNA KNOW
You've done this video like 3 times already!
Thank you Mr. Gore.
Alice's story is so awesome! Sending Mary Whitehouse flowers and Leo Abse cigars! 👍
Despite his popularity as a former vice president and an environmental activist, Al Gore is always going to be a chump because of his wife's campaign against the growing popularity of heavy music back in the 80s.
Did he support her?
Your son is truly lucky. My mother isn't so understanding
1:38 y'all remember when Dee Snider slaughtered the Gores in a single sentence?
Thank you for the video! You friends are all super awesome! Oh, moments with this video are sad.
Music (especially heavy metal and rock) and listening to it and participating in it at a live concert, is simply a release... and we ALL need that :) Its healthy.
in 2020 we are going to stop being so judgmental of where artists choose to take their music 🙏
The old school musicians really have a lot of class and undying spirit that just keeps going like the Energizer bunny !
Have Rappers and Hip Hop artists been dragged before congress?
And apparently, Bluegrass is some grimdark media as well.
Putting David Letterman in here wasn't fair. He was a fan of Marilyn Mason and specifically had him come onto his show to give him a platform to set the record straight.
The video is about celebrities outclassing their haters, not necessarily the people interviewing them. Manson was outlasting his haters in that clip, not David Letterman
1:53 for once, I love chad kroger
Dean Schneider part is always great. Dude is so well put together. Saw him in a radio shack when I lived on LI, still dressed like that with the hair and all
You should have included Jello Biafra vs Tipper Gore on Oprah and Marilyn Manson vs Bill O'Reilly on Fox News
Rob Halford is the Man
His Voice is Pure ROCK
Everybody needs to have a few haters during their lifetime...as the saying goes "When people u don't even know hate u, that's when u know you're the best." Always loved that saying.
always good to see a band or singer, even if you're not fond of them, use their brain to outmatch an interviewer or politician instead of a hate filled tweet or "French you!"
Dee Snider is a legend
Love that Rob Halford still has his Brummie accent!
I've still got a copy of "Sad wings of destiny".
You're better.

Me: DAMN IT!!!! I JUST PUT MY BIRDS BACK IN THEIR BIRD CAGE!!!!!
I loved the Dee Snider one
I was at that show that Maria Brink was talking about. It was at Ozzfest 07 in CT. A bunch of people in the crowd started chanting and she stopped the show and told them all off. There are some videos if you search for it.
You've got another thing comin 🤘
"It's only rockn'roll, but I like it!"
I love Dee Snider, Come out and play I owned 2 copies of that CASSETTE, Staying hungry, stay away from captain howdy I know, we're not gonna take it and I wanna rock are their most streamlined but Come Out and Play is my all time favorite #1 bad ass song. Dee Snider is intelligent, articulate and well spoken. Even though the questions and accusations are written down they stumble on their own words like babbling idiots.
Lemme do a Metallica rip:
You made your mark I love all your old stuff I could care less if you guys went on tour doing justin bieber covers. Yeah I just pulled the shortest straw for you!
Dee Snider's responses were amazing. Did he know he lawyer's points in advance? Very intelligent responses.
This is a metal channel and you show nickleback???

I don't know much about Marylin manson but these interviews on loudwire make him seem like a solid bro
