+Jjeff Kocher I can understand your point of view. However, as soldiers, we have to follow orders. It is not similar to a civilian job where you can quit if you do not agree. Furthermore, it is not if you agree or disagree, it is the man beside you. I deployed with some of the finest people I ever knowned. They are fathers, sons, brothers and friends. The bottom line is we must protect our battle buddies and I would have given my life for anyone of them in a heart beat.

Gary E. Ko it dates all the way back to I believe world war 1. The Stars are faced forward to represent going into battle. If it where put on as you seen many of them today then that would symbolize retreat. With the stars facing forwards it means all states as one headed into battle. Bc most soldiers come from all around America
Its because when your charging into battle the stars lead the way and the stripes fallow. My dad was a combat engineer 12b afghanistan. Saw combat was in route clearance.

It's funny how people talk shit without ever been deployed to Afghanistan.
Not talking shit actually quite the opposite you deserve so much more than this bullshit. Ask a Vietnam vet and they'll tell you the same thing you've been lied to unfortunately.
+Jjeff Kocher
I can understand your point of view.
+Pete N Pete i hear you I come from military family for many generations, I had grandfathers fighting on each side of ww2. I just get ticked off that young man and women are the ones that have to sacrifice their lives because assholes in suits sitting in offices have to start shit.
Pete N ....Sir, thank you for doing what most of us have so little understanding what life is like every second you’re there. My opinion of whether we should or should not be there is not important.... what is important is you’re there by order so I can’t help to worry about our soldiers safety. My utmost respect to you guys for putting your lives on the line. Thank you and God bless your efforts 🙏
Pete N I was moved by the documentaries "Restrepo" and "Korengal" on National Geographic. I thought, I sure know how those guys felt. National Geographic is now honoring our task force by broadcasting an 8 part mini-series called "The Long Road Home". I was on CASEVAC that night. I sure know what you country boys went through in Afghanistan. Peter, part 5 of "The Long Road Home" is on tonight.
Was sitting in the company of a friend who has been back from Afghanistan yesterday,he's in his early 40s and seen a lot of this type of action! And speaking to him yesterday he seemed like the most calmed and sensible person 😳 I honestly wouldn't have held it against him if he acted a little crazy, because I don't think that I could have done what he did, with out it sending me a little crazy I'll be honest! @@gawgaw6941 I agree having said that I don't think it's been a waste of time and our soldiers lives the Taliban now seem to have realised that the only way they would be able to stay in power is to let people live in peace and be more diplomatic the Taliban have realised that if us an NATO forces go back there going to get a good fight on there hands and I really don't think that they want that so from what I've seen an read is the Taliban have said that no us forces. Will be attacked that to me shows that in some way the war has done some good it seem like it's the start in the right direction if the Taliban have been willing to accept talks. I just think that the money that has bee. Spent is absolutely ridiculous. No wonder we have been there 20 years! What a clusterfuck. Also WHO is the idiot that put the fob's with high ground overlooking them? Someone needs to be demoted about 5 ranks.
Reminds me of Dien Bien Phu and Hamburger Hill
The terrain wouldn’t allow for fobs to be put atop mountains. No way to get resupplied besides by helicopter. Most of those fobs had OPs to help defend the fob and observe enemy movements to let the fob know of any incoming attacks.
God bless all our troops. Thank you for your service.

Korengal Valley reminds me of Dien Bien Phu and Hamburger Hill
is this the unit who were in the honest nest documentary?
The korengal was strategically vital... the troops and firepower deployed was not sufficient. The small presence fought hard and was effective to a point but the loss of live should have been unacceptable if your not going to keep the the land you spilled blood to gain . Politicians fighting a war the troops should have been given free range on
Robert Garrard Politians fight an abstract war. Soldiers fight a reality called combat. Two completely different realities.
Strategically pointless. You lost.
It's like Dien Bien Phu and Hamburger Hill

If you think "it rocks" then I dont think that qualifies as a war , but rather utterly unjustified oppression .
Picture what it would have been like if the Afghans had artillery and aircraft carriers like you did .

Mostly, yep.
Except in the dark with the advantage of night vision, so, whatever you do, don't lose and then hand that shit over to the opposition ?
Just as well Murka didn't lose and then hand over millions in night vision tech to the opposition, innit ?
I mean, shit, if they did that then they'd have to start actually worrying they'd have no chance vs a China that can now simply buy a couple of everything and reverse engineer ?
I think the USA should invade China immediately, whilst they're still unable to stand up for falling over laughing.
the flag is backwards cause they are headed into the fight
Gary E. Ko it dates all the way back to I believe world war 1. The Stars are faced forward to represent going into battle. If it where put on as you seen many of them today then that would symbolize retreat. With the stars facing forwards it means all states as one headed into battle. Bc most soldiers come from all around America
They don’t see anyone and shoot just to make noise WTF waste of ammunition is that?
The American flags on soldiers right arm look backwards because it is to look as if we're moving forward not backwards because we do not run
Its because when your charging into battle the stars lead the way and the stripes fallow. My dad was a combat engineer 12b afghanistan. Saw combat was in route clearance.

Always charging forward! This ain’t the ANA🤣
No, it's clearly labeled "M110", which is a different gun. The M110 is a semi-auto sniper rifle.

Vietnamese farmers defeated the US military.
Chris what is winning a war to you killing everybody till there’s nobody this isn’t call of duty dude it will never stop so there’s is no way to win but we killed millions in Vietnam
@@Arbiter710 Vietnam is thriving today. There were just over 400,000 NVA/VC deaths, compared with 220,000 allied deaths. Not a great return for a defeat by farmers, considering the vast gulf in military power.
Chris that’s a wrong number I can tell around 900,000 comi were killed
@@Arbiter710 The total death toll between 1965-74 is unknown, for obvious reasons. It certainly isn't in the millions. By the time the US was defeated, the high estimate of VC deaths was less than one million; and this was later revised downwards 30%.

Rifle at 22:55 is not a MK11 or SR-25, the MK11 is 5.56 cartridge, that rifle was in 7.62(.308). you can tell by the larger mags, the SR-25 is .308 but has been phased out by the m110 SASS.
I was in Pech Valley in 2010-2011.
We really need to raise these soldiers higher and make returning home and back to their lives a lot easier for them with more resources to help them get back to their lives. The mental and physical sacrifices they make are life changing for them and their families and we take it for granted. As a mother , daughter, sister and wife I can’t wait even imagine the constant worrying they go threw. IDK maybe I am ignorant but I feel that if you are taking the absolute highest risk so others can be safe then when you return you should be taken care in the same caliber f the risk you took.
