    Truth be told I would bet my bottom dollar get a few bought the cheapest rod and reel that you could buy you would still catch the same amount of fish. Your technique is excellent. You understand where strike zone is and even with a cheap reel, you would find it so I really don’t think you need very very expensive rod to catch fish. Once you understand what you have taught everybody you are an excellent fisherman.

      You're kind of hung up on the price points , but there's a floor and a ceiling when it comes to gear. It's probably true I won't miss many fish with either of the budget rod options I've reviewed on this channel (Tatula XT and Ceana), paired to something like an Ultegra - but lower tier than that and you start losing feel and sensitivity around the edges - strong wind/current and just losing fish period after hooking up due to sticky drags and shitty tapers on rods. But fishing isn't just about catching fish, it's about enjoying the process, and I get more enjoyment out of nice gear than crappy gear (surprise!)

      @@georgeniebergall7074 It's all perspective isn't it - I can't afford (and don't care about) high end cars, ditto house/apt, ditto clothes - but I do care about fishing and the accompanying gear, so I prioritize my budget towards that lifelong hobby. Again, a 200 dollar combo in 2024 - if you buy the RIGHT combo - is amazing. It's like a $500 combo from a decade ago. But let's not pretend the $1200 combo isn't any better, bc it is. It's nice having choices, and I try to include different price points on my gear recommendations to fit different budgets.

    Great video as always! I am curious as to your thoughts about Bogas...I used to have one and weighed a few stripers and ended up losing it. I read many articles about the higher fish mortality rate and wonder what your experiences have been...fish swim off slower? Personally I think it's for fish you intend to kill and eat. I would really like to see people stop using them

    When reeling in don’t you keep hitting the bottom with the crankbait

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  3 месяца назад

      Yeah that's the point of a crankbait, but you have to manage speed and float rate to keep it above their heads while not letting it drift too far out of their strike zone. It's a very "feel" type of fishing

      @@AOMilvado The bill on a crankbait deflects off cover and protects the hooks from snagging - surprisingly weedless. Ofc I'm fishing a sandy beach so it's hard to snag even if I tried lol

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  3 месяца назад

      @@abrahamjoseph6707 I'd say fish that average 3-6lbs, occasional fish pushing 10lbs that size reel would handle it fine. But remember, Vanquish is a pure JDM model so you won't get US support/warranty. Perhaps the new Twin Power is more fitting esp if you're talking redfish!

      It's weird to me how right handed anglers hold the pole and fight big fish with their left hand and reel with their right. To me right handed people cast with their right and hold the pole with their right and reel with their left is intuitive. But there is no right or wrong just what works for you.

    • @africaster
      @africaster 3 месяца назад

      IMHO … The arm holding the rod is typically straight and you’re using your back to gain yards by leaning back and then reeling in fast as you lean forward … so any strength needed is in the reeling in action hence requiring your stronger arm … individual preferences and what you’ve been taught as a youngster
