    I actually catch a few of those fluke down here in Jacksonville FL. It's rare but I have probably caught 5 or 6 summer flounder. They are usually not legal size. A couple times I have caught all three species, southern, gulf, and summer on the same day.

      Very cool, it would be fun to make a trip around the country and catch every species of toothy flounder. California halibut is high on my list!

    Hey just wondering where did you stab the fluke to bleed it so cleanly? Thanks 🙏

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  2 месяца назад

      Usually I just poke into the membrane above the gill rakers, you can also push your knife through the gills in one side out the other. Either way dunk it in water asap

      Both and rivers too. Surf jerkbaiting is a little more involved bc of the wave action.

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Месяц назад +1

      #2 Owner singles on the 78, or #1 belly #2 tail - you have to play around with the size and weighting

      keep in mind he's fishing in probably the best area in NJ for shore fluke which is why the video is heavily cropped. massive migration of nice size fluke go through there. way way tougher to pull out 16 keepers in places like Ocean City in the summer

    • @mikeswolek972
      @mikeswolek972 2 месяца назад +1

      Definitely need to just keep going and maybe will catch a keeper one of these days

      @@mikeswolek972 Get set up with the light single jig (rod/reel/line too) - learn how to use it - and cover water.

  • @nelsonfelixoutdoors6095
    @nelsonfelixoutdoors6095 2 месяца назад +1

    Nice ! Any reason why you chose conventional for most of the video? I would think it would be a little frustrating, casting the light jerk baits on that set up

    • @MAX99999
      @MAX99999 2 месяца назад +2

      Step up in the Shimano line $300-400 plus and you will be fine with light tackle. I fish 1gram lures with my Shimano aldebaran

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  2 месяца назад +2

      I'm more comfortable with a baitcaster for jerkbaits, but I do use a spinning setup as well. Those baits are mostly 3/8oz, so not that light and the Zillion can cast down to 1/4oz no issues. The rod is important too - you want something that will load on the cast.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing 2 месяца назад +1

      There's plenty of baitcasting reels made to cast light lures! With the proper reel, rod and line choice plus the amount of line put on a reel impact casting! I'd be using a caster setup for the surf too when it comes to back bay fishing!

    • @Teach_1ne
      @Teach_1ne 2 месяца назад +1

      Get a tranx! You can use it for casting and bottom fishing. Just need two different rods. 💯

    • @FlattieDaddy
      @FlattieDaddy 2 месяца назад +1

      I use a diawa sv tw 150. The backlash control is amazing. I can throw 1/8 ounce jigheads with a gulp into a headwind and not backlash, one you master conventional you will not want spinning. Especially if you are throwing around cover. In my case in, under, and around docks in NE Florida

  • @FlattieDaddy
    @FlattieDaddy 2 месяца назад

    OK, now you broke out the big tape. Those numbers are rock solid

  • @FlattieDaddy
    @FlattieDaddy 2 месяца назад

    That's good fishing, but you are cheating a bit with that tape. Put the tape on top of the closed mouth flounder and see if they are all quite 18 inches.

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  2 месяца назад +1

      Lol so I can add the curvature of the fish to the measurement? Nah...the only accurate length is taken with the fish laying on top of a flat measuring device - next best is laying the tape next to the fish.
