I don’t know what’s more impressive, your ability to catch fluke on lures from the shore on a consistent basis or the fact that you respond to pretty much every comment. You’re an excellent fisherman and also very devoted to your channel and viewers. Thank you for making these videos. Even though I don’t fish from shore, I still find your videos very enjoyable and always look forward to them.

Hi there boys!! Name is Fernando F. …. And a subscriber and been watching all your videos for the past 3-4 days,,,,,each !! Anyway,,, decided today was a jerkbait fluke day!! I fish Coney Island,, started at pier and worked my way all the way to the jetty at end ,,, working the surf just like you in your videos…and nothing!! Not a bite !! Got to jetty but ,,I didn’t give up on the almighty jerkbait!! A few cast in a landed my personal best!! 20” fluke!! Then another keeper but lost to rocks !! Here to say thank you!! Iam a disciple!! Ooooohhhh and the first one was on jerkbait and second one was on 1/4 oz jig head with 5 “ gulp grub ,,, thanks again ,,, you are the fluke master!!!!!

Finally got my hooks in the mail and modified the RRR. I caught more sea robins than ever, w/o loosing a single gulp. I thank you for saving me from having to replace all of my gulp! Crazy how effective it was... I am wondering if you have increased the size on the hooks? If so was. the action of the lure reduced significantly? Keep up the great vids!

I've been using inline singles for years now for most of my plugs ,and I've found that when they stick a fish they stay buttoned .
Thank you! Yeah the singles are a tradeoff for most plugs. Topwater you're looking at very bad hookup %, jerkbaits they mostly work great, crankbaits...esp the fat bodied ones...not the best esp in the belly hanger, and lipless cranks is definitely a tradeoff between hookup % and landing %.

Also have you ever tried wacky rig setup for Fluke ? 😂 just by looking at the way Fluke reacts to all fresh water bass techniques I am going try that on my next outing lol!😂
Thanks! Wacky rig is among my least favorite thing to throw in freshwater - it'd be way too slow/inefficient for fluke, but definitely give it a try and see
@@CookingandFishing I tried it yesterday ! No luck 😬 I used damaged pink shine grub (don’t want to waste a good one lol) it perfectly make sense how the wacky rig setup affects the presentation during these type of fishing ! I am going to keep trying though 😂
i barely fish in salt but still appreciate all the skills you share for fluke. Did you have any guides on generic timing/conditions and when to fish bays vs surf?
Generally speaking - early season in the back, mid - late season out front.
Wow, I never knew Fluke would hit crank baits from shore like that. I've alway caught them using sand eels or squid from a boat or piers. That shows my ignorance lol.
Fluke will hit anything under the right conditions, but some "experimental" baits will outfish others by a wide margin if used correctly. Jerkbaits and lipless cranks are 2 of them.
Been loving these vids.... Have tons of Keitech at home.. fish great lakes for small mouth alot... Would any of the easy shiner colors work for fluke? Perch.... Emerald shiner .... Shad colors? Thank you for your time .. opinion

the smaller traps get #2s, larger 1/2oz traps get #1s
How late into the season do you fish the backbays? I find that later in the season, the bite dies down due to temperature and algae

For the Rapala - Chrome Blue, Chrome, Helsinki Shad, Pearl Grey Shiner. For the Jackall - HL Aurora Black, SG Threadfin Shad. All good choices for mimicking peanut bunker.
A friend of mine would walk the shores edge and catch flounder with a Rebel Original Crawfish/Crawdad lure

@CookingandFishing This was a very cool video. I have never heard of the use of a crankbait for fluke. Great video and an interesting experiment!!! I got a few general questions. Do you prefer more a fluke or a grub for fluke fishing? Most of your videos feature the use of a fluke on a light jig head. Which is "better"? Also, what is your preference on longer rods for fluke fishing? I recently got a 9'6" medium action rod for light surf fishing. Still waiting to test that out.

@@CookingandFishing Thanks for the reply. The Labrax is quite a bit out of my budget though... I think this might help, the 9'6" rod I bought was the Daiwa Saltist Westcoast light action surf rod. It feels nice in my opinion. Maybe a little soft but I think it will work. Paired it with a Daiwa Tatula MQ LT 3000. Watching the Labrax vid. now. Does the labrax have a really soft-ish backbone? or is it like a stiff fast action?
@@fishyfishyfreak I've never fished the Saltist so I can't say, the Labrax has the perfect taper but you don't need perfection - you just need a fast enough tip to pop that jig off the bottom. I think you'll do very well with that combo!

I've seen anglers use largemouth bass spinners successfully for flounder , have you experimented with that technique?
I have...it will catch the odd fluke but the hookup % isn't great, and honestly it fishes so close to a jig I don't find it that interesting to use for fluke

Bro your mid level rod costs more than my whole setup and I know to many people that have the same one and love it.
Tsunami Carbon Sheild ii mh 7ft or 7.6ft depending on your preference paired with a Tsunami evict 3000. Killer combo for around the $300 total mark
No offense, but Tsunami is garbage. Just my opinion. You're much better off getting that Tatula XT I reviewed a few videos back paired to an Ultegra or the new Miravel - under $250 and much more appropriate for the job.

@@shanepitts8507 Here's the thing - I've owned/borrowed/tested a lot of rods, it's sort of my job to know what tool fits the task at hand, and the task at hand here is a 1/4oz jighead paired to a gulp trailer, and you need to feel that thing ticking bottom even in rough water. The Tsunami and the JW Onyx are both too heavy in power with terrible tip recovery, not nearly sensitive enough, and just plain heavy in weight. The blank actions are sloppy AF, which is what you get with most "inshore" rods since they're mostly designed for versatility, and also what you'd expect from OEM brands like Tsunami/JW. I don't want versatility - I want the perfect tool to do one job. We don't have to agree but I've fished with the rods you recommend, and they suck for the technique I use to catch fluke. Have you fished with any of the setups I recommend?
@CookingandFishing I haven't no. Sadly I don't have access to that many and I need the versatility. I've used the rod carbon sheild for everything from 1/32 spinners for rainbow trout to a 2 oz bucktail for fluke and bass and everything in between. Sadly for me and I'd argue the average fisherman, I can't afford to buy a rod that works for flounder from the beach, another that'll throw a 1oz buck tail for them in other places, one for tog from shore and then the countless others for whatever other way I want to fish. I'd probably land a lot more fish if I did so and I'll never argue that but until I get paid to do it or someone pays me to use their stuff it won't happen. Not doubting your recommendations at all I was just pointing out your mid level is what I'd argue the average persons high end and the high end is a pocket dream
@@shanepitts8507 I completely agree with your general sentiment, that's why I made the effort to review some budget options on the channel - and just to be clear, I am not paid or sponsored or affiliated in any way with any tackle company - too many youtubers and idiotic influencers out there throwing their credibility out the window for junk freebies and worse, "pro staff" discounts on garbage brands. But I digress - Yes, if you want versatility I'm not the guy to look to for recommendations. I would argue that if someone spends 4 months out of the year fluking, a dedicated setup isn't unreasonable. That Tatula XT for 100 bucks, or the cork Tatula 76MML for $170...perfect rods for throwing and popping light jigs all day. Any $100 Shimano/Daiwa spinner and you have a combo that is light/balanced and matches the payload you're throwing. Fluke and freshwater bass are almost completely analogous when it comes to tackle - and freshwater bass tackle is hugely competitive.

Great video! I never thought about using hard baits for flat fish.
I just moved to the VA Beach area and I'm trying to figure out the flounder. I found a jig head you should try. It's the Z Man WillowVibes, a round head but with a willow leaf chatterbait blade. It gives a gulp 3" swimming mullet a crazy wobbling action and the vibration feels like it should be awesome for flounder. The blade flashes too. So far nobody is catching any flounder around so it's not working, yet. But I'm pretty confident it's going to be a flounder slayer. They come in 1/4 and 3/8 oz. I bet they'd kill the trout and redfish too.
I'm sure it will catch the odd fluke but I'd rather fish a straight jig head. The hard baits are situational, whereas gulp on a light jighead will work anywhere and any time.

I'm surprised you think so :) The blowfish will chew through elaztech as well, and when they don't...zman doesn't catch nearly as well as gulp - not even close, even with procure. When the baitballs are thick reaction bite with a hard bait or Gulp scent are the best ways to take advantage of it, in my experience anyway.

Thanks! I explain everything in my other jerkbait videos including the baits to get and how to modify - you're looking for a slow float in 70F saltwater, each bait will behave differently sometimes a gram or fraction of a gram will influence its buoyancy.

howcome 22lb braid thats overkill for shore fluke?
JDM braids are labeled to actual breaking strength, so PE1/22lb YGK is roughly the diameter of 7lb USDM braids like J braid/pp/832 etc.

I know it appears that way in the video, but I assure you I am digging the sand under the fish with my shoe. If I can unhook them in the wet sand without touching them, I flip them back in without touching them. If I have to grab them with my hands to unhook, then I'll use my hands to put them back in the water.

@@thomasking4031 It doesn't look great, but it's better than grabbing them with hands. Wet sand and a little air time vs choking them around the gills and taking off slime...I think we know enough to know which is actually better for the fish.
