  • Some sex lessons I've learned from my own body. I experience something like strange discharge or pain and have to learn from the mystery what's going on. I sure didn't learn from high school sex education that condoms may get lost in the vagina or that UTIs are more common after playful sex.
    Hopefully this video solves some of you mysteries and encourages you to solve others.

    Just something I want to point out for everyone, sex isn't the only way to get UTI's, so even if you're a virgin or haven't done anything recently, it might still be a UTI. I got one once when I was a little kid.

      That happened to me once. I know this is a three year old video but, after having sex once the condom was not on my penis at the end of it. I remember reaching into my partners vagina and pulling out the condom. We were both very weirded out by the experience. Yea, I learned a lesson that day.

      @@jimmyninetoes8577 I to relate. I was having sex. With my girlfriend many years ago. She was babysitting. The baby had gone to bed. So therefore I showed up. We are on the couch. Having a good old time. And all of a sudden we heard a knock at the door. A little backstory her stepfather had always threatened and he was going to show up. And I better not be there. Because who knows why? He was strange. I guess he was trying to protect her. I had permission from her mother. And for her stepfather 3 dating her but when they saw it fit to see her. We're both young. But I was a little bit older. Back to the story after the knock I jumped up off the couch. Pulled my pants back up. Stuffed everything back in my pants and ran out the back door. We lost. The condom she found it. And her vagina the next day. A week goes by and she doesn't get her period for weeks. It scared the living hell out of both of us. Because I don't know that her mother. Had any idea that she was sexually active. Or that sexually active. I pray that you would get her period. Then I get a call from her from school. That she got it. It was the one of the best. Phone calls I've ever gotten. In my life. At that point it was a second or third time that we had had intercourse. And I was very much in love with her as she was in love with me. And I was concerned that she wouldn't want to have intercourse ever again. But now she did. And it all worked out. But talk about scared. Thank you. Dr. I enjoy your videos. Very informative Thank you for all that you do. God bless you,

    I also feel like this is important to note, from someone who had cysts so severe they ahd to have an ovary removed: If your doctor says you have a cyst, and tells you that cysts don't hurt when you complain about pain GET A NEW DOCTOR. I cannot stress this enough. If you have reproductive pain and your OB/GYN is not taking you seriously, do NOT think that you need to toughen up. I've found this mostly happened with my male OB/GYNs but there are some women who think cysts are not supposed to hurt. Certainly there are some that don't, some that only hurt a little, and some that hospitalize you. But no one should be discounting the pain you have, especially not a medical provider.

    • @alphadawgxx
      @alphadawgxx 8 лет назад +19

      I just reread this and realized my comment about male OB/GYNs could be taken the wrong way. I don't mean to say that all men are like this, or that you shouldn't have a male as your doctor. It was just my observation that I was being told what would and would not cause pain in my reproductive organs by someone who didn't have them, which was very frustrating

    • @warxdrum
      @warxdrum 8 лет назад +5

      sounds like a crappy doctor. I'll add something to your comment by talking about what a good doctor can be like:
      I'm happy with my current male GYN since he scolds me about not coming regularly enough or forgetting to take my continuous pill (even if it takes more than 3 days of not taking it for it to stop working - FOR ME - which I've never done). I was so happy about it that I couldn't talk back to him which is my normal behavior and I could have added that I haven't had sex for far too long and I don't get many chances nowadays. I just knew that he was right and after that he did the usual examination and talked to me about a cheaper alternative to my current pill^^ he also always asks if I have any questions before I leave.
      (if anyone has read this far, guess my age xD)

      +Scheefinator there are many different ways to treat the symptoms of PCOD but you are right about not being able to cure it. There are lots of lifestyle changes that can help like diet and exercise but I'd also recommend investigating a drug called Metformin. Speak to the doctor about it of course but it helps to be informed about the condition because GPs can't be experts in everything. It can be a tricky medication to take so it helps to be informed.

    Real stories are so useful and interesting! I often find that a story like that helps me remember the information, and they can be so relatable. My biggest mystery was what I thought was a UTI (all the same symptoms) which I got on and off for more than a year and more than once caused me to go home early from school because I was so uncomfortable. While on tumblr I read a post about the scent in Always pads causing irritations, and realised that the year I'd had this, I'd switched to Always pads. I switched back to some unscented ones and the symptoms stopped. I now avoid them whenever possible. Thanks for sharing your stories! :)

    • @Leslie-wb8cb
      @Leslie-wb8cb 8 лет назад +3

      +Dictator In Perpetuity actually it does mean that they are more prone to getting a yeast infection. My husband is uncircumcised and he has had issues with yeast infections in the past because he has diabetes. There's nothing to do with hygiene in this case. It has to do with the fact that the foreskin area is more like a vagina and it has more capability of holding on to the east. we met with our doctor about it in the past when my husband had yeast infections because of the diabetes being undiagnosed so it is very easy to have your partner get a yeast infection as well just because of the extra least hanging out. My husband is actually on a very strong antibiotic because of a dialysis related issue. And he does take an antifungal liquid 3 times a day to prevent him getting an actual yeast infection, but he still has a larger biological community of yeast because of the foreskin area.

    I love that you share personal stories trying to demystify and normalise these sorts of problems.
    I am having severe problems at the moment. I have intense abdominal pain in the approximate area of my uterus, but the doctors don't know what's wrong. The pain is so bad I frequently pass out and am on really strong painkillers which barely help at all. I had an ultrasound a number of years ago (and they lost my scans) where they determined I had ovarian cysts but didn't want to name it as PCOS because I showed little of the hormone changes expected. Last year I had a laparoscopy where they discovered scar tissue, tested negative for endometriosis. I've had a general bloodwork done with no results, I've tried gastro-related medication, I've tried metformin, everything either does nothing or makes it worse. I've got no idea what to do, I can't study, I can't work, I can't live on my own. Is there any advice you could give me on which directions to look or how to cope with it?
    If you can't, that's okay. I love your channel and you do such great work. I hope things continue to go well for you and that all the comments from people aren't too exhausting and mentally draining. I have a great admiration for the work you do and how you help so many people. - Jen

    I’m mad late with replying, but I learn so much about sex and body health from your channel, so thank you. Some I never knew, some I needed to unlearn and re-learn. Growing up, sex education was confined to what felt like only the textbooks and their words verbatim, which just explained the basic process of just making babies.
    We had one sex ed teacher who did talk more about the experience of sex and some of the responsibilities that came with it, but she used a lot of examples that didn’t resonate and sort of made me uncomfortable. Like an elder from the early 1900’s giving me the traditional lay down of how sex was.
    Our schools also used HIV as a scare tactic, not emphasizing condoms and just promoting abstinence.
    Some speakers who were Long-term HIV survivors were real as hell with their approaches. They knew how to relate with us because they were open about their mistakes, and pointed out the half-assed ways sex ed is taught in schools.

    I REALLY hope you see this, Dr. Doe! I appreciate your videos; I wish I had access to a comprehensive, sex+, sex education program when I was A LOT younger. I may have a new topic for you.
    Sex has been painful for me since making my sexual debut.
    When I married at age 18, neither my ex or I knew what or wear a clit was. I didn't know until I was well into my 20s. I'll come back to that in a moment.
    I had infertility problems. I was told everything was "normal", except I had a uterus about the size of a 12 y/o's and I needed to "relax" during penetration.
    Problem is, no one really listened to me. I WAS relaxed. Labeled infertile, requiring fertility treatments on a Friday, I learned I was pregnant that Sunday.
    My pregnancy was very painful. I was on bedrest for much of it. My uterus wasn't the size it should be, my baby was cramped for space, and my amniotic fluid was LOW. I went into pre-term labor; I had a preemie. Despite her head measuring in the 5th percentile for her gestational age, I had fourth degree lacerations.
    I chose to have a tubal ligation. I was in a major accident when pregnant, suffering a TBI. Fertility issues including miscarriages. A preemie. And an abusive husband who threatened to kill me when I was 2 weeks pregnant and the night I learned of my pregnancy.
    Upon having the TL it was learned:
    My anatomy was far from normal. Suddenly everything made sense. Confirmed later after hysterectomy, I had what is known as a unicornuate uterus without a rudimentary horn, 1 fallopian tube, 1 ovary, and a small vagina. "Half a reproductive system", including half a normal sized vaginal opening and depth. That was another reason for my pain. My cervix was taking a beating. I had my cervix removed with the hysterectomy.
    Other associated issues:
    Small bladder.
    May have a missing or deformed kidney.
    Lesson: listen to your body, find a professional who will listen, don't stay in an abusive marriage, and, of course, stay curious.
    P.S. Vaginas are stretchy. I need to get dilators (or as my daughter has recommended and your channel has shown me) or dildos to get myself to re-enter the dating world after a sexual experience that nearly landed me in the ER (I should have gone). I hadn't had sex in years, but I prepared per doctor's recommendation. Well...he was larger than I had planned for. By a lot. He was great about foreplay. We used lube, should have used more! It took 45 minutes for him to achieve penetration after foreplay. He got a bit rough. I didn't say no or try to stop him, so it was consensual!! He orgasmed very quickly. I have had 3 partners. This is a big problem. None of the 3 made it longer than 1 min 30 sec after penetration. Anyhow, I took a sitz bath. We were both injured. I was in agonizing pain for DAYS and hurt for quite some time after that. I could barely move or get out of bed. His penis peeled. I had warned him about this happening to 2/3. 1/3 was probably on the small side of average, if that. That would have been AMAZING, except for the premature ejaculation. The guy who was large and I decided our anatomies were incompatible. He swore he wasn't that big, but his penis was as large as the circumference of my wrist or quite close to it.
    That scared me. It's been over 6 years since I've had sex. I really want to be with a woman. I am open to either. I was told I can dilate myself to accommodate most men, but I was told I will need to use dilators or have sex for 20 minutes a day.
    Wellllll that was way too long. Hit send.

      I've been to the emergency room a couple of times. It was totally covered by insurance. Unfortunately insurance is far from cheap. Long before "obamacare", when I didn't have insurance from my employers, I was lucky not to need it, and that saved me at least hundreds if not thousands each year. Then "obamacare" came along with it's "mandate" that EVERYBODY had to have insurance or pay a super stiff penalty, I was lucky to have it from my employer.

    I had a vaginal mystery. I used to have periods for months at a time and then miss periods for months at a time. Every time I went to the doctor about them they'd just prescribe birth control pills to regulate them. Then I was finally diagnosed with PCOS. Its been a huge weight off my shoulders to know what was going on with my body. Since I've had a baby and lost some weight my cycles have been regular which is great.

    • @sonny19931
      @sonny19931 8 лет назад +7

      Well... I don't mean to sound rude, but three hours of waiting in stable conditions doesn't sound that awful. A broken rib is not really that urgent anyway, the doctor is just gonna say "yep, broken" and tell you to wait a few months.

    • @warxdrum
      @warxdrum 8 лет назад +6

      sonny19931 a broken rib can puncture the lungs or other organs. does the person have to collapse ore spit blood before someone treats them.

    • @sonny19931
      @sonny19931 8 лет назад +9

      Of course not, they should treat it in a reasonable amount of time. Depending on where you live, three hours is a pretty reasonable amount of time to wait.
      I'm not saying it's pleasant to wait for three hours with a possibly broken rib, but in the grand scheme of things there are a ton of other emergencies than need quicker attention.

    Oh my gosh. I know this video is almost 2 years old but I just learned so much. I'm going through the last situation you mentioned, with the "mean stuff." I thought I had a yeast infection but it wasn't as bad as the times I've had it before, and it seemed to just be occasional throughout the day. Maybe it's a lactobacillus buildup like you said. And like you said, I thought it might be an infection so I have been taking additional probiotics in addition to my normal daily ones. What do you do to stop the mean stuff, then? I take probiotics because I'm prone to yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis, so should I take one that doesn't have lactobacillus in it?
    Thank you for being such a super awesome person. I learn so much from your videos!

    So that's why my yeast infection is not particularly ichy and doesn't go away with anti fungals. It's not a yeast infection. Damn!
    I've found that in order to 'reset' my vaginal microbiome. Going a full period using just pads works well for me. I've read somewhere that the pH of the menstrual blood is good for resetting the vagina's health. Works for me. May not work for everyone.
    On the other hand, using these small pads that are designed to catch every day vaginal discharge/pee leackage has proven very bad for my vagina. I always had a lot of discharge until I stopped using those. Now I just wear cotton underwear and everything's much better.
