- Christensen is talking about her summer house in Denmark that she has owned now for over 22 years. At the time of purchase, she explains, she had been living in Paris and then New York but wanted a place to escape to when she returned home. She desired a place to give her son Mingus a little slice of nature. “I wanted to keep the feeling of everything as integrated with the ocean, with the beach, with the sand and with the rosehip bushes outside,” she says.

I also love that this home wasn’t perfectly staged, with everything put away. Most homes that are showcased looks like no one lives there. She had all her shampoos and brushes out, like a normal person. 😅❤️

@@Beyoncessister I didn't think you did mean it positively but sometimes, we just accept our bugaboos as a permanent thing and stop trying to fix them. It's easier. I have a problem with taking the necessary time to do something right and not rush through it and mess it up. And when I do slow down and take the time, I feel like a new and better person. I learned this in a book titled, "Everything You Need To Know You Learned In Kindergarten"'. And it's mainly true.

I once stayed in a place like this on vacation. There was a sea lion colony off the coast, going to sleep with the waves crashing on the beach, the mist and the sounds of sea lions was magical.
My in-laws have homes in Maine that are like this. It's fantastic. I want to recommend the film "Through A Glass Darkly" by Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. It's set on an island, and has this sort of atmosphere. Although, it's done in black and white.

My Dad lives 5-10 minutes walk from where she has her summer house. It's a very beautiful and calming place to live. It's lovely

It's at Nordsjælland (North Zealand) coast. Close to a city called Rågeleje. Very lovely, but quite expensive area.

JEALOUS!….. I grew up in a house right smack on the beach with very few neighbors. It was heaven to me - even more so in winter when the water was cold and frothy from heavy winds and pounding waves, which I always thought was so exciting!
My memory is rich with many beach combing stories of fabulous finds and long hot summer days with crystal water that looked like glass and the constant caress of the wind which made you forget you were burnt to a crisp!!
But, what I miss most of all is the symphony of the ever present seagulls, sandpipers, kittiwakes, fish eagles and more mixed with the sound of the waves. It’s the music of my soul!! It’s what makes me feel whole again and brings me back to who I was meant to be.
I don’t blame you for spending 50% of your time in the water. If I had a beach house now (in my retirement years), I’d never be in it - I’d spend ALL of my time on the sand……that’s we’re God talks to me….and I can hear him. 😊

Our house was in the US, in the State of Virginia, in what’s called the Northern Neck. It was within a private (gated) community that was large enough to eventually hold thousands of homes when it was 100% finished. My parents bought a lot right on the beach in 1970, just after the developer finished putting in all the infrastructure, like the roads a private club house & huge pool with tennis courts, a small golf course and a 100 acre man made lake that was 3 miles from our house (which was within a decent walking distance for me).
We waited about a year after my parents bought the lot, then began construction of the house. When it was completed, it was the 17th house in the subdivision of over 14,000 acres……so, when I say we had few neighbors, it was no exaggeration! Matter of fact, several of the other houses (much like our own), were 2nd homes for their respective owners. This meant less than a handful of them held permanent residents, which served to make my life there even more isolated and idyllic.
I had miles and miles of private beaches to myself and could spend an entire day walking without seeing another person. We had a couple of boats and a catamaran tied up to our small dock and my absolute favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning was to cut 3 acres of grass via our orange riding lawnmower wearing my bikini, then run down to the dock as soon as I was finished, jump in my little John boat which had a small gas powered outboard motor and head to the sandbar across the inlet, where I’d spend the rest of my day beach combing, sunbathing and listening to the pop music top 40 countdown on my transistor radio.
Just before dusk, I’d motor half way back, stop to check the crab pots tied to poles in the inlet and then haul whatever was in the pots back to the house for dinner.
I spent all summer on the beach or at the club house pool. In fall I roamed around the woods and fished in the lake. In winter, I’d ice skate on the inlet and walk the beach in the cold wind all bundled up in a giant parka (with face mask, gloves and about 900 other layers), especially after a big storm when I could find the best “treasures”!!!
My favorite memories are filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the water, the salt air and the incredible beauty of nature there. The kind of nature you can only enjoy when you’re alone because that’s when you see & experience the best stuff!!!

Your descriptive language really transported me to that place and time. My mother was fortunate to have enjoyed an idyllic childhood also and she tells us stories all the time about her life in those days. I love hearing stuff like this. I have always been a fan of her style. I am 49 so yes same era i grew up in the 1980's. So cool to see a wonderful, light & smooth home. And that Ocean is topping it All off. Nice to see what people have accomplished in there life & how they put down their roots

I am part Danish , my great grandfather was a Danish sea captain. The sea is in my blood and I would love to live somewhere like this. The sea calms me.
Fun facts: No matter where you are in Denmark, you will always be less than 50 kilometres from a coastline. More than 98% percent of our coastline are freely access able for all. At 98% of our beaches you are allowed to be and swim in the nude. Many Danes take a dip daily in the ocean, year round! The Kingdom of Denmark consists of Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland. The Danish monarchy are the oldest in Europe with its first attested historical king on the throne in year 710. Denmark are today a constitutional monarchy with a open market economy, have a multi party democracy and a one chambered parliament. Faroe Islands and Greenland have own parliaments but also permanent seats in the Danish. Denmark are amongst the original co founders of NATO.

This was fun to see, as a dane. It's actually a pretty standard Danish summer house. Of course the interior can vary quite a bit, but still pretty standard. I love our summer house. Highlight of the year being there in the summer!
