100%. Learning curve is closing, general appreciation for sets increasing, quality superior. Give it another couple years and people are going to wonder why they bought English
Can you make an updated version of this in year 2024? With facts and prices on BOOSTER BOX alone. No singles, No graded cards. Booster box alone. Let's see the percentage gained of english and japanese vs what you pay for it.
Holos have that holo border, the reverse holos have those exclusive patterns, 25th anniversary look way better, alot more stamped cards and promos, and most importantly the quality control is undeniably better with better centering and conditioning.
Honestly, I think that they are, I like the look of them better, I like the back of their cards better. When it comes to money wise and value wise I don't have any experience so far but I would think they are still good to invest.
Nowadays u can pull a chase card in english and be disappointed when u look at that centering or see whitening on the back. U don’t get that same feeling nearly as much with Japanese packs because of how much better the quality control is.
Thanks for this!! I prefer Japanese vintage in my collection, something about the origin and story of Pokémon just makes me more inclined to collect Japanese vs English.
Hmm I don’t know if I agree. I think something has potentially permanently switched in the market. Japanese cards are now mainstream and more common. It’s never been easier to get them. The quality is WAY higher than English to the point where my English cards look flat compared to my Japanese cards. I think we’ve had a bubble lately in Japanese but I the new low will be higher than before. More people have caught on to how awesome these cards are. Also for gem mint collectors Japanese cards are WAY less frustrating. English drives me nuts. Most of my pack fresh cards suck and have some white corner or are cut way off center or have scratch lines from factory machinery. It’s ridiculous. I think vintage WOTC will always do better than vintage Japanese because culturally the English release was far more impactful and it’s all the nostalgia and English speakers who collected as a kid keeping thar WOTC market high. I feel like vintage English > vintage Japanese. Japanese promos > English. Japanese modern > English.
Im new to all this and apart from the higher quality i just like them more aesthetically. Ive heard Japanese cards on Ebay are safe to buy, but is that true only for some sellers? I found sellers with great reviews but seemingly too good to be true deals, like a bundle of 18 japanese SV151 AR cards for 65USD.
I bought a Japanese dark Charizard in lightly played condition just for my personal collection and I also bought a Japanese dark Blastoise I'm gonna get graded because it's beautiful! Just a big fan of the artwork
I love Japanese cards! I think long-term some of the products perform really well, but obviously English is more guaranteed. Sometimes I'm not sure why either. The Japanese cards are better quality and I honestly think a lot of their holo patterns and promos are a LOT more interesting than English.
@@TCGFunhouse Forgot to add, for people who like to complete sets, Japanese is probably a great option. They are SO much easier to complete than English and you can kind of pick and choose based on which cards you like the best and want to focus on. I think in general they cater to what fans really want a lot more than English does.
I just bought my first Japanese box eevee heros. Very excited to open but I think the prices are lower because the sets are smaller so the cards are less rare.
I’d love to get into some Japanese cards, but I’m also just trying to keep up with how quick all these products are released in the US too. I still haven’t seen the Celebrations lunchboxes yet, and the Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon alt art boxes are gonna be hitting stores now too. I have noticed a lot of the Japanese character cards from the latest set really aren’t that expensive to buy as singles, so maybe I’ll pick up some that way.
Japan itself has a really healthy market for both collectors and players. I think that this will be the biggest difference in why cards will remain at its steady price here. Special promos and sets will be the only exceptions.
As far as japanese cards I'm definitely going after the numerous promo cards that we never get in the English version. There are so many that are absolutely beautiful
I think even early on I found it hard to collect the Japanese cards just because might seem silly but because I couldn't read the cards, I didn't just want to look at the picture. Of course that was when Pokémon first came out here and I was just a kid.
From an investment standpoint Japanese base sets make all the sense in the world. As a collector you want Charizard’s first card, right? Well…the Japanese card came out 3 years before the US version. That’s such a big gap that it makes the Japanese version the “rookie” card IMO. I think long term the Japanese cards will be the ones to own.
I am starting to love the looks of the Japanese cards. They just look better compared to the English set. It’s really interesting to see that the English cards are way more than the Japanese. I’m curious to see where it will go in the future!
The Japanese cards definitely have an overall better look. English cards need to have better quality control if they want to continue to compete. It will be interesting to see where this goes!
The price hike was a demand from Japan itself if you ask me The older japanese holo's value is allot lower. Because the boxes had more packs in the vintage era and allot of the sets always had a holo..asx didn't seem to know that. Modern Japanese value for me is more in the sealed product of 'special' sets like climax, shining legends etc Other sealed jp product just doesn't have allot of demand and won't outshine the english variant
95% of my collection is japanese. The cards are much, much better quality. The holo patterns are different from their english counterparts on alot of them. The RR vmax pikachu in japanese has stars in the background. Its a beautiful card. The English version is meh. You will never see whitening and silvering on a japanese card nor will you see square cut corners.
I collect both but I struggle everyday to make the full switch and go all japanese and start to sell out of my english. Something about the OG japanese make it feel so special.
I kind of fell I to this a little bit. Having a hard time finding product I decided to collect some Japanese sets. Now I know that we eventually get these sets in English but a lot of times cards get skipped in English to another set and sometimes it's not to have the Japanese cause then all the cards are in the set. Like what happened with Eevee Heroes and Evolving Skies. So yeah. But finding singles are ssssoooo much harder.

Personally when I have a Japanese version of a card, I am less likely to chase the english version. The art is the same, and at end of the day I only care about the art since I dont play the game
Honestly the you tubers who have Pokémon channels or blogs bought all the English cards as well as Japanese cards on market thru this period. Also, look at rarity. Japanese sets have smaller print runs. They are less copies of them than their English counterparts. I've opened a bunch of English and I completely wasted my money because the chase cards were shit condition.
Completely agree. If you don't live in Japan, investing in Japanese cards (unless they're some kind of absolute exclusive to Japan, never to be released in English) is a bad move. Collect them all you want. They're beautiful cards and always of better quality but the language barrier will ultimately lessen their value here.
Can we just admittedly say that Japanese cards are almost in every case better in quality, artwork, and price than American cards?
I prefer Japanese cards as a collector 100%. But most people in the US would not agree sadly

Hey I’m just curious what you do as your main income like or do you make enough to where your income is high enough to where you don’t have to work a job 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Well explained thank you gym leaders
Thanks
Also, look at rarity. Japanese sets have smaller print runs. They are less copies of them than their English counterparts. I've opened a bunch of English and I completely wasted my money because the chase cards were shit condition.
I grab anything Japanese that doesn’t have a counterpart in English
Japanese cards will always be my go to. Certain cards you just can't get in English like the Festa Pikachu cards (correct me if I'm wrong).
Let's say 80% of the investors / collectors leave the hobby , does that mean I csn get a base set charizard for under 200 NM ?
Im 32 now and have Japanese holos from age of 12 . And American holos the Japanese look way better
I miss all of my child hood cards. Need my old binder back haha
The cards do look great with Japanese words
I agree. So cool !
What are some legitimate websites for Japanese cards?
I want to get VMAX CLIMAX so bad!!!

Gosh I want some vmax climax cards so bad!
They are pretty awesome cards
@@TCGFunhouse have you bought any?
I really like Japanese cards better
Me too
Japanese cards are worth it just for the fact that they have wayyyy better quality control than English
It's Netflix. I think some time in 2022
Going to be lit
@@TCGFunhouse I can't wait!!!
Always see japanese cards cheaper online
Yep !
Japanese guaranteed 10s American who are they hiring to center these cards!? o.O
😂😂😂😂
I would say if you're going to invest at all do it in English because of the bigger market.
Sssssssdddddddddccccccc is here 👀 japanese pokemon card
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I live Japanese cards
Me too
Japanese cards look so much better
Completely agree. If you don't live in Japan, investing in Japanese cards (unless they're some kind of absolute exclusive to Japan, never to be released in English) is a bad move. Collect them all you want. They're beautiful cards and always of better quality but the language barrier will ultimately lessen their value here.
I buy japanese cause english pull rates suck

What about France pokemon cards? I bought 2 packs out of a box for 10$ each from someone who brought back a box from France,
