      @vensroofcat6415 Год назад

      @@SMGJohn In the end I just made my own custom DIY mini ITX open case/frame. Many ITX cases can't afford air filters anyway. Or they would suffocate. So why bother - I don't have little kids or cats and open chassis does perfectly fine. It's a rotated T. On one side I have air cooler - whatever size I want (besides motherboard limitations), on other side I have PSU - full ATX, SFX, doesn't matter. Everything fits in an open ended frame. And the same goes for dGPU going across from left to right below it all.
      Lay it flat if you like your dGPU looks more than your air cooler. No part limits another one. Have a 50cm dGPU if you must. And everything is cool as a bonus.

  • @trevorbarney1796
    @trevorbarney1796 Год назад +9

    I've been really impressed with ID Cooling's products. Just how affordable and effective they are.
    I just bought the IS-50 v2 last week off amazon for $25. Wish i would have known this was an option as well before buying as im building a system for a releative in the Fractal Node 202. That cooler is just 1mm too tall for the case. My solution was to just press on the cooler a little bit to bend the pipes and it works fine. I was also going to buy an A12x15 for it to improve thermals even further.
    After seeing this video, this cooler seems to be a better option for my needs in both thermals and size. So looks like i'll be repurposing the IS50 for something else lol.
    I will also mention that anyone looking to buy the IS-50 v2, be aware that depending on what motherboard you're mounting it to, it may overhang the motherboard either on the PCIe slot or the top VRM. For example i mounted it to the ASRock Z690M-ITX/ax with the pipes facing the PCIe slot and it over hanged the mobo on the VRM side. So i had to rotate it.
    This means that the fan was overhanging the DIMM slots limiting RAM clearance. But, the fan bracket on the cooler is removable and can be repositioned so the fan overhangs the I/O instead. If that's something you are after, like i was.
    Cheers.

    • @trevorbarney1796
      @trevorbarney1796 Год назад +2

      Coming back to this comment to say that the IS-55 does indeed fit on that Asrock Z690 itx board. Although, again, I had to rotate the cooler to avoid overhang. So, the pipes are facing the top VRM. No compatibility issues with RAM clearance either. The cooler is about 2-3mm from hitting the I/O heat sink though so it’s a really clean fit. Just something to note as the H670 version has the same heatsinks and the B660 board also has a rear I/O heatsink. Incase anyone has either of those.
      I swapped out the stock fan for a black A12x15 both for performance but also for looks - I’m not a fan of RGB in SFF builds.
      Can’t wait to do some testing with this on a 12600K.
      Thanks for the content on this one Mike/HC ✌🏼

    • @seibertron500
      @seibertron500 Год назад

      there's actually no RAM clearance issues as presented in this review because HC mounted it incorrectly. they need to turn the cooler 90 degrees so the heatpipes face towards the top or bottom of the heatsink (depending on whether you use tall or short RAM along with your motherboard's VRM heatsink layout). you can clearly see at 5:24 that at the left of the cooler you see the huge clearance for LPX RAM

    Good to see the 55 corrected the instalaltion process. I got the 50X, and after 15 minutes of trying to install it, I was still unable to make good, even contact with it. I literally threw it into the box and sent it back.
    Got a Thermalright AXP120-X67... it's absolutely amazing. It even allows installation of higher profile RAM, and actively cools them as it covers them up with the fan. You should really give that oen a try too... Thermalright is releasing incredible products nowadays.

  • @seibertron500
    @seibertron500 Год назад +12

    the LPX RAM clearance issue is because they mounted it the wrong way lmao. IDcooling's website clearly presents that the tip of the heatpipes should be mounted towards the top (or bottom depending on whether you use tall of short RAM) and that the screws should be towards the RAM slots / I/O ports.
    HC's way of AM4 mounting is physically impossible if you try using the mounting accessories since you can only mount two ways - heatpipes up or down the motherboard. you can even clearly see the free clearance at 5:24 on the left of the heatsink when they mounted it incorrectly.
    everyone should check out Machines and More's video on the IS-55 and you can see he uses a X570i Strix motherboard with Corsair LPX RAM in that.

    Great review. You would have to check the orientation of the cooler mounts for AM4/5 though, as you showed that it wouldn’t fit a B550I Strix in that orientation, but the cooler mounting system is mechanically incompatible of doing so for AM4/5, because the provided mounting bars only allow the heat pipes to face either up or down, unlike for Intel mounting, where it can be rotated in 90degrees steps.

    • @seibertron500

      exactly. I don't really understand why they went with this when it is physically impossible. it just means they didn't bother testing with AM4 at all. this review needs an addendum since they presented that use for AM4/AM5 has severe drawbacks with RAM compatibility when it was just their incompetence.

    Bought this without watching any reviews as it was very affordable, amazing looking and seemed dense. Glad to see it performs so well. Thermalright and ID Cooling as some very underrated and affordable brands that crush the competitors! So useful to find out that they include screws for standard thickness fans as I will be swapping to another budget king, the Arctic P12 Max.

    Could you include thermalright si100 in your reviews? It's a low profile cooler with a 120 fan 6 heatpipes and 100mm in height, people say its performance matches some single tower coolers. Would be great to see how that compares

    Case: Silverstone RVZ02
    MB: Asrock Z690m-itx/ax
    CPU: 12600k
    GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x16gb
    PSU: EVGA 750 GM
    Drive: WD_Black 1tb SN850x
    Cooler: ID Cooling IS-55
    I really haven't put it through it's paces yet, but Metro Exodus (non-enhanced, 1080p Ultra) and temps hover around 55-65c with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. Idle temps 35-40c. I think this little cooler works very well when directly in front of an air vent, as how the Silverstone case is.

    Thank you for this video man. I've been to build my first itx PC. I will be taking my 2nd PC with a 12600k/4070 FE that I use for streaming and recording and putting it in the Fractal Terra. just ordered it yesterday. I've been looking for a good low profile cooler for the 12600k and I think the IS-55 will be good enough. I won't be doing much more than streaming/recording and some video editing. The only thing that worries me is that the cooling plate doesn't look like its quite long enough to cover the whole IHS for 12th gen intel?

    Very fascinating video. Unfortunately the ram blockage is a severe problem with this cooler. To me it seems the IS-67-XT keeps evertrhing the same as the 55 but sacrifices height to prevent the overhang. Idk if it was in your plans already or maybe you figured the 67 doesnt beat the 55 but it would be amazing if you could make a video comparing the IS 67, 47, and 55? And maybe some other newer cpu coolers? Or if you see this if you could reply that would be epic as well! 👍

    hmm i am curious if the IS-55's fan would make the AXP-100 cu do any better or if there are any even better low profile fans that we could slap on the AXP & IS-55 to make them even better. Id love to see which one can edge out the other!
    I understand this kills the value but when building an itx build, especially for something like vr, the idea of best for the buck in my eyes turns into what is just the best overall, tossing in a bit more cash to wring out just that much performance is a necessary cost of going small in some cases.

    I had to break out the dremmel and cut off the corner of mine to fit snuggly in a formd t1 v2 sandwich case. The side rails in the case would not allow me to orient the cooler above the ram. So even after carefully picking my components down to the millimeter, some modding was required. That's SFF in a nutshell.

    The LPX Ram was not seated in. Was it for the more dramatic look? The lpx is 32mm high and the clearance for Ram is 33. Good video by the way

    • @seibertron500
      @seibertron500 Год назад +2

      its not that they didn't seat the RAM properly, its because they mounted the cooler incorrectly. IDcooling's product page and youtube channel show how this cooler is properly mounted for optimal RAM clearance. the screws should also be towards the ram slots (another way to know you mounted it correctly for RAM clearance) when they did the complete opposite. you can even see at 5:24 that on the left of the cooler there is proper clearance for RAM with heatsinks if they mounted it correctly
      Machines and More has a video on the IS-55 and you can see he uses a X570i Strix motherboard with Corsair LPX RAM in that.

    I find it amazing how the Nhl9a is just as good as the Thermalright AXP90-R. I'm currently looking to build with a Ryzen 5 5600x and have a hard time deciding between the 2. I would like to go for the Noctua because it looks better, they have better customer support, and I have heard bad things about the AXP and the problem when you don't have a backplate. But are they really equal in performance? It seems strange that with an additional 10mm on the AXP it doesn't perform any better. Would you think that the Noctua Nhl9a could keep the Ryzen 5 5600x just as quiet and cool as the AXP?

    If you are going to install this on an Optiplex 9020 sff, you need to cut off (using a mini hacksaw) the 4 CPU fan mounting from the case. It worked for me.

    5:22 you can always face heat pipes down, though it's not ideal in comparison to facing sideways, even noctua says facing down is acceptable.

    I had no problems clearing Corsair LPX DDR4 on two different am4 itx boards. My problem was that the cooler sticks out above the top of the board when it's in that orientation so I can't use it in either sff build I have going now. I'd have to pull off vrm heatsinks to get it to flip around and fit over the rear i/o.
    It's a great looking cooler but they really need a revision B that's designed to work with boards that don't cheap out on vrm cooling

    I just bought it.. installed on my undervolted 5800x3d and unfortunately I was left disappointed. The Wraith prism I had before run cooler and with higher frequency (but was noisier).
    I understand that most of the time people are comparing low profile coolers because they want to fit them in the small ssf case. But some of us just like the aesthetic with fan/rgb fan facing the tempered glass panel. So.. It would be really nice if you included Wraith Prism in your low profile comparisons in the future. Thx
    In your testing with 95W cpu the is-55 hits 82c max on max fan speed. For me on 105W undervolted 5800x3d it just reached 90c limit in cinebench r23 and quickly dropped frequency from 4450 to 4050 to keep under 90. Even in cyberpunk I was unable to keep the cpu under 80c with IS-55. My Wraith Prism was under 75.
