Giambi's non-slide is still one of the least talked about dumb plays in sports history. You're taught at a young age to slide whenever the play is close but he chose not to. It gets overshadowed by the amazing play that Jeter made, but Giambi definitely would have been safe had he slid.

Yeah Jeremy Giambi was a very overrated player during his MLB days.
Wasn’t a fast runner, struggled with constancy at the plate, and caused some locker room distractions that eventually led to him getting traded out of Oakland just two months into the next season after they were highly relying on him to replace the production of his brother.

The only time a tie didn't go to the base runner, like the rule states. Yeah, this whole myth is a joke, and would have been called safe if the teams were reversed.

I don't see how anyone can be sure Giambi would have been safe if he'd slid. In fact, I think he would have been even more out. Sliding actually slows you down; the reason people do it is to avoid tags coming from above or not run through bases. But in this case, it was the very fact that Giambi was running that made Posada almost miss his leg. If Giambi had slid, I think the tag would have caught him on the bottom of his foot or the side of his leg before his foot touched the plate.

Would be interesting to do an Overlap episode focusing on the 2014 Wichita State/Kentucky NCAA basketball tournament game.
WSU coming off a final four appearance in 2013 and entering the 2014 tournament as an undefeated #1 seed, losing in an amazing game to a team that would go on a final four run of their own and enter the 2015 tournament as an undefeated #1 seed.
Interesting 3 year timeline between the two programs.

"New young kings of the AL" may be a stretch. The A's weren't even the king's of the AL West. If the A's made it to the ALCS, I think the Mariners would have beat them.

    • @YankeesFan0620

Consider that was the year the Mariners won 116 games. The A’s still had more young talent considering all those players came out of their farm system

    • @cadendukes6662
      @cadendukes6662 3 года назад

@@YankeesFan0620 that is true. By 2001 the Mariners were running out of young prospects. The A's (with a little help from Billy Beane's Moneyball antics) were set to trade away/build up a batch of new talent

This was outstanding !! Really cool voice lending credence and truth to history, cuz l did forget Jeremy G. had a chance to redeem himself.
As a Yankee fan this video and narrator brought me back where l was at the end of that game, losing my mind !
l used to have a big huge throw pillow when l watched Yankee games and l called it a throw pillow cuz l would throw it and then myself on top of it after almost every pitch.
Especially with Mariano pitching and especially this series with the A's. As they kicked our butts the first two games.
This game woke the Yankees up in this series and we got past the A's but unfortunately for me the Diamondbacks destroyed the Yankee chances of bringing home the championship a mere month after the September 11th attacks.
l was imagining the World Series Trophy being presented to ground zero personnel and first responders, while it was still smoldering and what a picture it would have made, for the City of NY and America, still hurting !
I am a huge Yankee fan but l always said with 27 Championships l would have been quite happy to take away, give away, OMIT, Delete, erase, 2 trophies just for that 2001 World Championship for the city of New York and truly for American patriotism.
Arizona had no special bond with 9/11 therefore no higher zeal for that championship but the Yankees would have made quite a contribution to all American values as the Yankees have always been a microcosm of American greatness.
Yankee top hat goes with Uncle Sam's top hat all day every day.
All around the world an American is known by one word,
    one word only please !!
A Yankee, Yes even someone from Boston.
