- This video will show how I installed the Android 10 screen I bought from Alibaba, Shenzhen Kanor Electronic store. It was delivered 2 weeks from the day I ordered it.
The reasons I bought this screen were to get new navigation maps without paying crazy prices to the car dealer and to get an updated look. The HereWeGo navigation app is excellent, I like it because it has over-speed and speed camera warnings.
The most difficult part of the installation was moving the cables and wiring harness around so I can re-install the head unit.
The unit did not come with any installation or user manual.
The unit is a 9" Android 10 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. It looks fantastic after installation. I will use few a week or before posting a review of the unit.
Thank you sir, for showing the auxiliary cable process. Left out of MOST other install videos and definitely the hardest part IMO.

Hey Ken, great video and happy holidays. I found this unit sold by Kanor and I also found the unit sold by Mekede and I was wondering if you prefer one over the other. I plan on using it almost exclusively for apple carplay. Do they come standard with it? Is it just plug and play? Thanks!
Hi, I have installed units from both. The one from Mekede seem to have better build quality. There are units with or without Carplay. So make sure you choose one with wireless Carplay. good luck.

Hi, I bought mine from alibaba.com from a store called Shenzhen Kanor Electronics. If your car is a W166 then it should fit. But it would be best to check with the seller. Good luck.

hi, 2012 - 2015 ML have the same screen and plugs. the only different maybe there's no fibre optic cable for the amp but the installation is the same. You can always ask the Aliexpress store to confirm as well.
Can you show how you open up the panels to hide the antenna cables and the aux cable to AMI?
Hi, I hid the GPS antenna cable under the rubber door seal, you just need to pry it out and squeeze the cable under. Then
squeeze the cable down the gap between the dash and A pillar cover.
And the Aux cable I just squeeze it up and under the bottom part of the center console. Hope that helps.
Wondering if anyone has an ‘14 w166 with front screen to be mirroring the rear entertainment screens , would this unit work / show the same view as factory ( which is passenger can see the rear passenger are viewing , while the driver can see navigation/ radio screen in the front center screen at same time front passenger is viewing same front screen ). Ty

Hi Ken, thanks for this video. I’m looking at getting one of these from Jun Tian in Alibaba for my 2013 ML W166. Do you have any issue where you phone still connects to the unit via Bluetooth when the car is turned off? I know this is a problem for units like Road Top that retain the OEM screen.
hi, no I haven't had that problem. The unit must still be getting power from somewhere if the car is off. Wiring problem maybe?

Hi Ken, hope your doing well. Does your ML350 have an OEM backup camera and if so did you experience connection issues with using it and the new screen? I received my screen today and installed and can’t seem to get the OEM backup camera working to display. However, it seems like the black cable from the original screen (not blue) is some how connected to the camera. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

no I didn't have issues with reverse camera or the 360 view camera. The black cable was not used with the new screen. can you still see radio and other oem things with the Android screen?

Hi, there are actually versions wireless carplay or Android Auto. This one doesn't have it unfortunately.
Hey Ken, so to be clear you take the existing cable block that is going into the main unit and connect it to the new cabling? And you take the fibre cable out and that goes into the new block too right?
hi, yes, that's correct, and the new block and fibre goes into the main unit.
Hi I need help for the original backup camera working and from camera after installation no signal.
hi, I had similar issue on my other installation, the problem was the cables in the back were too twisted and tangled. you might need to cut out the plate underneath the head unit so the cable harness have room. good luck

Hey Ken, In your video there was a step you said something to make the ntg screen work properly, then didn't say anything about it, I've got my screen installed but I'm not getting the ntg screen to show properly. Let me know what you did to get the ntg to show properly. Thx I've got the same screen and 2014 ML.
hi, you will need to get into the Android screen factory setting, then enter 1314 as the pin, from there you can select the appropriate ntg version.

hello, that is very handful video and i will like to say thank you for sharing it. I am keen to install this but lets say i am listening to FM Radio via my oem unit will this screen inform me about any tyre pressure loss (i am planning to install the tyre pressure monitor system via usb on the back of the screen). What i really like to know is if am using the oem screen in the background various android apps are still functioning and interupts the radio?
Hi, from my experience the Android runs independently from the oem screen function. The only way to get sound from the Android screen is via AUX-IN. So while you you listen to oem FM radio, I don't think you will get interrupt. The other option is to listen to FM radio from the Android app so you would need mobile data.

Hi, you can use Android while listening to oem radio. You just won't get any sound from Android.

Hi, yes it should, 2014 ML are W166 chassis. I bought mine from Alibaba from a store called Shenzhen Kanor Electronics. There are a few to buy from.
Ken, excellent video I just installed mine. However, it seems to have the wrong resolution for the factory system NTG 4.5. Do you know how you can change the setting? At the moment it is only showing 1/4 of the original screen. Thank you.

Hi I got this (or very similar) just installed by a guy from Facebook. Main issue is feedback when on phone. All good for me talking, but when the person on the other end talks, they here themselves really loudly which is hard for them to speak. Basically makes the phone function useless. Any ideas? Thanks
Hi, I didn't use the corded microphone or speaker that came with the unit. And I use the stock incar Bluetooth for phone calls and music. I use the Android navigation mostly.

Hi, for sound you need to use the AMI plug and select AUX in. Is the screen working for other and just the reverse camera not working? check that the cables are not too twisted and stretched behind the head unit. I had to cut out the plastic piece under the head unit to make room for all the cables.

Hi, sorry to see you're having a problem. I assume your AUX was working before. If you can't even play the songs that came with the unit It sounds like you might have a faulty unit. Probably best to contact the shop where you got yours from.
I can't help feeling that it's just because of wrong setting - veh is a MB ML 2014 W166 with NTG4.5 - I bought a 9"android10 4GB+64Gb & carplay onboard - I have changed the settings both in my Comand unit & the new screen in an effort to achieve sound from the new unit - I'm unsure of the correct settings. Can you, somehow advise me of the settings that should work - my Chinese retailer was MEKEDE & I have sofar failed to get a favourable solution from them. I did advise them to promote your install video with all their English speaking customers as their recommended videos were incoherent

I have test the bluetooth connection to the screen and it works fine, but I actually only use OEM bluetooth for music and phone call. I mainly use the screen for the HereWeGo navigation app and sometimes Spotify. Hope this helps.

hi, you would need a 3.5mm to USB adapter. then plug USB adapter to your car and from the car menu choose Media then USB (iPod) to get sound
hello. I have the same exact unit installed on my 13 ML350. The only thing not working right is the temperature displaying in Celsius and not in Fahrenheit.I have already adjusted it within the system with no luck. Are you experiencing the same issue??
Hi, are you seeing the Fahrenheit in the NTG screen or the Android? If it's in the Android screen then you have to go to "factory setting" and change from "metrics" to "imperial". You might need to ask where you got the screen from for the factory setting password.
@@kenkanfix Hi Thanks for the reply. I have done that and I also have the factory password. In fact I got it from MEDEKE on ALiExpress/ Same exact box as yours. I have change from metric to imperial and on the system menu temp settings from C to F. Unfortunately no change. Everything else works.
Does it come with Wireless Apple Carplay like they claim?
Hi, there are different versions, yes there are versions with wireless carplay. I installed one recently in another w166. There is no instructions on how to connect, but basically it connects to your phone using both wifi and bluetooth to enable carplay. I will make a video soon and upload it.

Hi, yes you can, just make sure you specify that you want it with wireless carplay. I ordered one from alibaba store called Mekede.
after using android display for almost four years, what are your thoughts? would you install again? pros? cons?
Hi, i am really enjoying using the bigger screen and Android Auto functionalities. It looks like the W166 GLE. I can't think of any cons to be honest. If you get one just make sure you choose the model with in-built wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay (I had to buy an add-on).
hello@@kenkanfix, yesterday, i installed a 8.4" screen in 2015 ml63. i watched your video a lot. video is super helpful. thank you much for sharing. though specs indicated that it was wired android auto only, in use, the screen that i bought appears to have wireless AA. yay. it was also supposed to be android 11 and it turns out to be android 12.
Installed and no sound, Tried everything. Harmon Kardon system is not easy. Tried setting up and using AMI AUX (turned on) still no sound. 2014 GL350 x166

Is this unit still working well for you? I bought the exact same unit, took my time to install it and had it all up and running including sound! Car was completely back together and everything tests fine. The next morning the system would not boot, black screen and so far I’ve not solved this.
hi, my unit and another that I installed still works fine. There is a fuse in the little black box behind the unit. Try checking that fuse. good luck.
@@kenkanfix thank you sir, that was it. The fuse was good but the connection to the fuse was not good. This is a weak point, I cut this fuse out and replaced it with a blade style fuse. Cheers
I just installed mine but anytime I turn on the pointer to turn the screen turns off and shows no signal I still have one cable left from the back of the old screen that’s not going anywhere or connected to anything
Hi, the second cable for the old screen is not used. I had the same problem with intermittent no signal. Please check that the cables are not too twisted and stretched behind the head unit. I had to cut out the plastic piece under the head unit to make room for all the cables. Then everything was fine.

@@durangojay7350 hi, when you take out the head unit, there's a plastic piece below the cavity where the unit goes, that's the piece that I cut out. that will give more room for the cables and harness

Anytime I turn on the turn signal to turn the screen turns off and it says no signal and I still have the second cable from the back of the old screen going no where and I didn’t see u connect it to anything too
Have watch your video over 10 times now I see u said the cable is useless so why is mine saying no signal anytime I use the turn signal or reverse camera pls help

If I don't connect the AMI, there is no sounds in the system, right? I have installed the 9" android system but no any sound. I don't know the reason.
Hi, yes, I have installed a few and they all need to have the AMI plug. This was the same case for the BMW E90 that I installed as well (AUK-in in the centre arm console). You need to set the OEM unit to AUX first before using the Android screen. If some app don't have sound, then play the mp3 that came with unit, for some reason that enables sound for other apps. yeah, it's weird :)
@@kenkanfix I set the OEM unit to AUX first and then use the AMI. However, I tried two times but the system still not work. No sounds. But the original sysrtem work well. I want to give up the update...
hi, try going into the screen's settings and choose volume, there you can adjust OEM and Android sound levels

hi, I got mine from alibaba for AUD$550. I would suggest looking for a model with wireless android auto or Apple carplay. It's about the same price.

hi, sorry to hear that. Have you checked/replace the glass fuse? it is in the black box that's connected to the power cable.
@@kenkanfix my description was really not accurate sorry, it gets power but seems to have a heat temperature related display failure. Vertical lines and unusable.
