All the years (and it's been decades, I won't say how many ;) ) and I never knew about the foot used for satin stitch. Thank you for this tip.
Great tutorial! I love this idea!
I watch a lot of quilting tutorials and think to myself "well, that was nice or pretty or easy" but YOUR tutorials always make me think "yes! I'm going to do that!" They're such useful and creative projects that are quick and doable! Thanks for posting these videos for all of us!
What a cute/great idea!!!!! With Valentine's Day just a couple of weeks away this is a perfect way to use some of my beautiful Valentine fabric!!!!!
what fun.....Valentines from Grandma! and thanks for sharing info about this foot that I have never used.
What a fun idea! I've got two 7-year-old grandsons and using superhero or star wars fabric will work well with this.
Hello and thank you ! I'm taking a class with my guild tomorrow . Just wanted to get the idea !! I will send you a card when finished !
Thank you for this great idea! This would be so cute with kids' fabrics to send to my grandson.
Love love love it!!!
Fabulous tip about the foot change on the machine, I've always struggled doing the old way. THANKS Rob! xxx
Thanks for the tutorial on making fabric postcards, Rob. I've been wanting to try this ever since I saw then at the Sisters Quilt Show for the Wish Upon A Card project. By the way, your class there in Sisters ROCKED! Thanks again- I enjoy watching your Man Sewing tutorials.
Love this idea! I need to mail out some Thank you notes to a few people and think this would be perfect.
They're going to be stoked when they get one of these!
Great job Rob !!!
I love the design.
I'll be waiting for mine too..🙋🦋
Love this tutorial!! Such a thoughtful way to send a postcard and create a keepsake. Thanks for sharing!!
This has to be one of my favorites that I've used more than any of the others. It was fun sending my special postcards to my grand-kids. I even sent one to the RETIRED POSTMASTER of a nearby town (friend of mine for Christmas.) I had used a material with cuddly puppies ready for Christmas fluffy border with white fleece. My words were a big laugh, saying "Now look at the crazy things that can go through the Post Office." She loved it and said the only way it would have gotten to her was because I used a 49 Cent stamp. (Which I saw on your video) Thanks bunches this was a blast for me. Please enter me in the drawing. I'm under a different name in Face Book, but I will get the email if you send it. Thank you.
What a wonderful idea. I have some very special fabric for Christmas and this has made me think what an amazing Christmas Card this would make! Thank you again for another great tutorial.
A very cute idea!
You have such fun ideas! Love this - would be fun to do with kids at camp - just need the sewing machines for them!
Love this tutorial am hoping to do this for family Christmas cards but can't wait to try it why wait for Christmas
Sei simpaticissimo e bravissimo.thank You from Italy
Oh my! What a lovely idea! I can't wait to make some. I enjoy mailing hand written notes to friends and family and this is a wonderful way to add another special touch. Thank you!
Thanks for watching, Kristie! Be sure and send in pics of your finished post cards!
This technique will be perfect for some coasters I want to make, including the satin stitch edging. Is that an overcast foot?
I love this tutorial and. Hope to make them for Christmas next year!
Wow I love this!!!!
I just subscribed and I am so happy I did...I am grateful that you know to put all your videos in playlists..so few you tubers do that...and it makes it hard for viewers to find specifics and youtubers miss out on views they would have if they just made playlists :-)
I've learned so much from you already! Thanks so much for sharing!
Please tell me would you be willing to do garment construction videos? Can you do sellable fabric items? And, can you do things most professional sewists know but generally unknown to sewists. Ive only studied it for a few months...but I want to learn and learn fast...again, you have made that possible by using play-lists!
Blessings,
E.
Thank you for the great tutorial
I can't wait to try this!
This is a great idea. Could also be used, if you wanted to make a littlepicture to hang on the wall of a favorite fabric design. Keep up the goodwork, Rob...............Barb
Love it Rob!
Very clever!
So fun!!!
I love this!
Photographers Edge sells stick on postcard backs for photographs, they would probably work for these as well!!!
That's a cool idea, thanks Junie!!
I love this guy. How come he's not producing more videos.
without a doubt - a Christmas card of such would be put in the Memory box
That is so cool!
Thanks, Ann! Glad you enjoyed it!
Have you made one using a serger to close the edges?
I haven't! I thought about it but more people have sewing machines than sergers, so that's why I chose the method I did. I bet it would work out great though!
Hi Rob,
I Love your Videos so so much. I'm watching regularly and You got The Power to inspire me every single time! So i'm Wondering why You dont Upload more of your stuff :( when will appear a new Video ? I'm so excited and waiting for You
Kathi .K. He has a new show now for a different company. Michael Miller, I think. He no longer works with MSQC. Do a search on his name and his new videos will come up.
Thanks
Rob, I saw the pressed foot you used, what is it called, where can I get it and will it work on Pfaff!
Really cool idea! :-)
I am wondering what is the name of that foot he uses to do the satin stitch? Is it simply called a satin stitch foot? It looks different than the one I have for my Singer. Mine doesn't have the little stop.
Thank you! :)
Hey
Just wondering if you have made a postcard using a pieced quilt block such as an Ohio Star? If so, please do a video to show how to put this together on a postcard.
Hi Kathleen, thanks for tuning in! I have never attempted an Ohio Star as a fabric postcard, but I bet it would be a cool one. Hope you have fun creating yours!
Your statement that the postcard be no larger than 4 x 6 confused me since I've sent out larger cards myself so I did some research. Postcards must a minimum of 3.5" x 5" can't be larger than 4" x 6" to get postcard postage pricing. Larger cards will get subject to letter postage pricing.
This is so cool. Question. What kind of needle did you use for the symtex (sp?). And how much postage was on the one you received?
Timtex. That is very stiff, can be used for lampshades and jewelry boxes, etc.
You can use other stifferener, as Rob mentioned: Peltex, or Wonder Under. I have used both of those very happily b/c I couldn't get Timtex.
Cute idea. I am going to check my machine feet to see if I have one of those feet. Great project for busy days.
Thanks for following along, Judy! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Is that foot an overlock foot?
Great tutorial. The only problem I have is the corners of the satin stitch. They don't look pretty! I used the foot 2A on my Bernina and went around twice. Any suggestions please?
Ready to send you one by snail mail! Is that Man Sewing at MSQ?
What was the name of the stabilizing fabric that you used?
Here's a link to help you out, Kim! land.mansewing.com/fabric-postcard/?
How do you stick the address label?
What is the name of the foot you used ?..
So I'm assuming there are no postal regulations or policies that keep a card like this going through the mail??? I'm assuming due to thickness & weight and standard stamp would be needed instead of a postcard stamp....?
Hello! Yes, be sure to check with your local post office before dropping it in the mail. Thanks for the question!
Man Sewing Great advice, thanks! My mailman said it would be best to mail it out from the local post office just to be certain on the charges.
You could put it in an envelope.
You can also ask them to hand cancel it then mail it per usual, or hand cancel then mail in an envelope.
I wish you would have shown us the outcome..
I don't see how you did the writing side of the post card. The last clear instruction was the satin stich. Then to you talk about the writing side of the actual card. Do you hand draw it or what?
You can hand draw it, you can find post card fabric that works perfect as well for the backing. Here's a link that will help! mansewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/postcard-template-1.pdf
This is such a beautiful way to send a card! thank you! On the same topic, am I writting on the fabric or attaching paper to the backing? thank you!
Kiely Aitken you would use a fabric marker to write on it if you haven't already figured it out.
LOVE!! One question, where do you get the template for the back? Thank you, Becky
Hi Rob,
I was so inspired by this card so I made my own version and mentioned you. Look for my tutorial called "Mariellche 006". Thank you!
You are too funny!
Hoping soon to be learning some of your skills
Christmascard
My post office refuses to accept these for mailing. Please check before you go to the trouble of making them.
Thank you for sharing this information, Mary.
You can purchase clear envelopes 4x6 to mail the postcards in. I send these to my grandchildren all the time. No problems. Bought clear envelopes on Amazon...
Could you also make your quilt sandwich and then glue it to an actual post card? I don't have the ability to print on fabric
Remember u have to pay more for this when mailing. Don't just throw a stamp on it.😅😅😅
