[Update] So I bought the car, and I finally get to take this Lotus on the track. Check out my track impressions in that video here >>> ruclips.net/video/KVmQQu0EjNc/видео.html . . . I realized that I didn't really touch on the impracticality of this car, but let's be real here, you know what you're getting into when you buy an Exige. Speaking of buying an Exige, should I buy this one?
2008 and above Supercharged elise... Trust me on this one... awww.. and they are also a bit cheaper.... topless... the always 30k car... you won't regret it... I sold mine and I kinda wish there was a way to sell my soul instead
I was just talking with my girl, after watching Donut Media, about how all youtubers yell and scream at their audience. Almost every channel does some kind of cheese and over the top behavior. You do not. I dig that shit. This channel is my jam...
"It's not the car you buy to flex on your friends or drive on a night out... This is the car you buy for yourself to truly experience the joy of driving." As an Elise owner, I couldn't agree more. Amazing cinematics, very good review hitting all the sweet spots, especially the track/part costs. Subbed.
3:56 Can I just say, out of hundreds of car reviews I've watched, no one's come anywhere close to portraying the raw acceleration of a vehicle cinematically as well as you have. I could practically feel that acceleration through the screen. Bravo dude
I'm very surprised none of the big names such as Car and driver, motor trend and the likes have given you a job yet. Beside Henry Catchpole and Chris Harris, you have the best narrative out there and your reviews are always as interesting as informative, and also very well presented. You have a very bright future and I'm always looking forward to the next video. Amazing work
You made a great video and I'm glad that you enjoyed the car. You've got a new subscriber. In July I picked up an '05 Elise with a built head, 9K RPM redline, custom catless exhaust, a BoE 400 supercharger kit, and tons of other custom work/parts. Words can't describe what it is like to have 330 wheel horsepower sitting right behind your head in a car that weighs 2000 pounds. I've had the most fun sharing the car with people who may not have the opportunity to experience a car like this. Before I put the Lotus into heated storage, a little kid who was only six years old kept whispering to his dad about the car as they walked by the gas pump I was at. I just called out to them and said, "Hey, would you guys like to sit in it and I can take some pictures for you?" The way the kid's eyes lit up was priceless and his father was so appreciative. The father got in the passenger side and his son got in the driver's seat. I started the car and let the kid rev it a little bit while I took pictures for him to show to his mom when he got home. Then to make his day, I asked his dad if I could take him for a little ride around the block and his father agreed so we did a loop right around the gas station. I'm hoping I created a little automotive enthusiast that day and he will grow up to own an Elise or Exige in ten years.
Thank you both. I absolutely love being able to share stories with random people who strike up conversations about the car. They tell me about the vehicles they have owned, first date disasters in project cars, and one local guy I met had a Lotus Elan that he told me was a death trap but it was the car that he met his wife in. Once this snow clears up and we get some warm weather so sometime at the end of March or early April to share the car with as many people as possible.
Man, how is it that this car has been out for over a decade and no one has come out with a proper review of it until now? Glad to know it lives up to expectations.
Reviewing one of these can never do it justice. You have to drive one. In a world of sledghammers, this is a scalpel. Theres a precision to it that I havn't found in any other car. And lets just say I've driven my share.
There has been, remember this car first appeared in 2005, Top gear did the apache helicopter article on it, The quote was, “the most fun you can have on four wheels” reviews tend to be done only on new releases, so you will not be hearing to much about a 15 year old car. This model went out of production in 2011, stopped completely in the USA due to compliance laws, but a new V6 Exige has been released overseas, that attracted industry wide acclaim.
There's something to say bout your production value in each one of your videos. Not once have I watched a video that makes me genuinely excited for a car I've never shared interest in. Love your work
Re-review this after adjustable coilovers, tune, and a smaller supercharger pulley. It's a little monster. On track, keeps up with many big machines. Out on real world mountain twisties, no one is having as much fun.
Not a mini F1 car either. F1 is open wheel, open cockpit, single seater, with hybrid power unit. It isn’t even similar to an F1 car. An Atom is much more similar.
Frank White better than a Kart if you can’t handle 3Gs. No road car comes close to a proper Kart. Not even closer as far as pure driving and racing experience. I won’t even get into the wheel to wheel part of it cause frankly just doing “track days” for time is boring AF compared to racing real drivers with similar racecraft.
What a brilliant review of the Exige 220. Never been in an Exige but what you described summed up everything I loved and also disliked a little about my Elise 111R. People look at the stats on these things and will dismiss it without actually driving it but like you summed up perfectly the emotion and joy you get from the Exige and Man other Lotus's is beyond what very few manufacturers can offer, which is why I'm on Lotus number 5 now with an early Evora. Thank you very much!

I love this reviewer. Just made it using a professional demeanor. No rap shit, no excessive cursing, and comes with statistics and facts...not just opinions. Very well done.
This is the one. I've been loving my 06 Miata - throwing it around is a frikkin joy... I wish more people could experience that. And there are matched parts to improve every aspect of it at reasonable prices. But the Elise and then the Exige have always seemed like the next step. Your vid is like the final judgement for me.
Just did some work on one of these (I'm a mechanic) and got to drive it for a weekend. The owner had put Penske coil overs on it. Couldn't tell if the sway bars were aftermarket or not. Absolutely the most insane car I've ever driven, and I've driven a bunch of stuff. Just ridiculous. And I would argue that, at it's stock power; it's right on the money for hard core canyon carving. As a high performance street car it's a dream, haven't taken one on the track but I imagine it retains it's benign yet aggressive characteristics Because I was poking around for a few days with it, I noticed the upper and lower control arms are nearly identical to the control arms of prototype and formula one cars from the 60's and 70's. It worked great back then and it works great today!

This is the most satisfying review of the s2 Exige since the chopper evading episode during Jeremy Clarkson era Top Gear! Great job my man, I discovered your channel on this vid and now subscribed 👍
Way late to the party, but surprised not none of the Lotus folks responding here have pointed out that the roof is from a 2008 or later Exige. The 2007 roof was only a half-mohawk.

These are fun, mine was at 280 whp and ran far stronger than most would assume, the thing that made it fun is that it's a bare drivers car no luxuries or anything
I want an exige but I really prefer the look of the series 3 but we don’t get that in the US but if I have to I’ll “settle” for the series 2. Still a great car
Great video - thoughtful, punchy, excellent narration & great cinematography. Well done, you have a new subscriber. I have a 964 - heavily modified to accentuate the visceral experience. The car is an absolute blast to drive on the twisties. At one point I had a 914. The Elise and Exige really attract me. They appear to be a wonderful mixture of the utter rawness of the 914, fused with the handling and performance of my 964 - but with only 2/3 the weight. That’s a game changer!
sooooooo i was doubting on getting a Lotus because i have a Porsche Cayman, but this convinced me. Love the video man, what a quality video, not too long straight facts and honest opinions. Thanks my friend
yes, for sure you'll have to buy one, i own an Exige S 240 in Krypton Green for over a month now and it is abolutely worth every penny! great handling, power, sound and emotions while driving. and.. lots of rubbernecking over the streets involved :)
I just discovered your channel, since I'm looking into buying a Lotus Exige S. This review was so helpful with all the footage. I appreciate all the footage and editing. Very well done! Anyways, I subscribed, so now I"m going into the rabbit hole and looking at all your previous videos. lol
You got totally right. I bought my Exige S2 exactly for that reason. I drove everything on the market (Porsch Cayman S, BMW M3, Honda S2000, EVO IX) but after a test drive with the exige I knew I finally found my dream car. And real sports car that isn't a compromise.
Traded in my very modified ~260hp Elige for a 4c Spider over a year ago and still second guess my decision to this day - nothing touches Lotus handling... but damn I’m a sucker for those Italian curves! Quality stuff as usual my man. Thank you 👍
It was great to revisit this video. I was really impressed by your calm, yet straight to the point delivery, yet able to display the passion it's easy to have for these cars. I recently bought an 08 S240 Exige in Persian Blue. I doubt I'll get a response, but now that I have one, if that is a 07 S, it has a 240/260.cup roof on it. I see the LSS wheels, the 07s had 6.5" wide, 08s were 6" wide.. It looks like slight mods by the previous owner. Did you buy it? I am so happy with mine, I just ran a track day and did a 120 mile drive through mountain and canyon roads.. Keep up the good work!
First time coming across one of your videos. Format is amazing, brilliant videography and effects. It feels almost in between actually driving and playing a game. I really love the flow from one segment to the next. Brilliant
There is a good chance that I may end up never giving it back to it's owner 😄. I wish I was better at the actual editing, my forte is only camera and lighting. But I have no choice, the show must go on.
6:59 That isn't strange, steering should be exactly this way. Lotus deserves serious praise for persevering with narrow front tyres when it would be much easier to compromise.
I was looking for a used one of this around 2015 but ended up with the 4C. With the 4c and a 987.1 CS (GT3 TB, IPD plenum, software tune, TE37 wheels, Remus exhaust, FVD oil pan and extended sump, RE-71 tires, 10 lb battery, pagid yellow pads, and Sparco QRT-C seats)...I’m happy the way the Cayman response to weight reduction and the sound of that Porsche flat six at the red line is awesome. The 4C is exhilarating too because it’s light and loud but I’m finding 987.1 sometimes more fun to drive because of the six speed, exhaust, and weight of approaching 2900 lbs. Exige, 4C, and Cayman are all the best engaging sports cars you can buy without really breaking the budget.
Kept thinking during the intro (2min) that my CRX with a motor swapped, high revving engine, had many similar characteristics. Then he did the soft start and man, that engine sound makes me miss the Honda. I love these Japanese inline motors with small displacement. Love it.
I've been in love with the elise since people were importing S1's and swapping B18s into them. When they finally brought it here I started counting down the days until I own one. Great video
It's weird because I've always been aware of the Exige but until Moog bought the one on Mighty Car Mods I'd never actually really thought about the Exige. Like in my head it was still an Elise with a hardtop making like 170bhp.
It pretty much is. This generation is an Elise with a supercharger and a hard roof. Same engines, chassis and sub frame. You can actually remove the roof on an Exige (and convert it to fit an Elise roof). It just unbolts. it isn't recommended by Lotus though because the roof scoop cools the SC.
I once after a test drive paid a deposit for a 2008 brand new Exige S in black (1.8 compressor like yours). The car appealed (and it does till today) albeit I found its gearbox and pedal box very disappointing. Brakes ok, Engine ok: car's light and fast but there is no way to detract from its tiny 4 pot 1.8 litre capacity. The best bits? The amazing steering, lightness / responsiveness, excellent sitting position and looks. The official dealership salesperson then cocked it up and I asked the deposit back. Went to buy a BMW Z4 M Coupe instead: amazing engine and better packaging the Lotus but disappointing everywhere else. After that I switched to Porsche's 981: S...GT4... all manual...and for the first time ever a car has left me completely satisfied: no weak points at all - they are mid engine heaven and every flat six I have driven: 2.7, 3.4, 3.8, 4.0 has been amazing. Most like will never change or swap. I can think about adding a 911 but never swap a 981/718 with 6 pistons for a rear engined Porsche. Currently the best thing alternative to a brand new Exige (not in production anymore) is an Alpine and in my opinion a better machine overall albeit short of Lotus' looks... . Great video ✨ Many thanks.
so if the frames are 1 to 1 as in real time, the second run with speedometer shown start at 4:26 and ends at 4':33 for a 0-6- statistical number and this shows a 6 second run. What am I missing?
@SaenzFonsi You can't rely on just looking at the speedometer for an accurate reading because there is a delay compared to real time. The ECU reading through OBD2 is also not going to give you a real time readout. Our times are recorded and registered via VBOX and Dragy which are both widely accepted methods of acceleration timing.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy I beg your pardon sr. The ECU has access to the speedometer sensor at the transmission, at the transmission the gear ratios work themselves in pulses so that the ECU has for a given tire size the car's speed. if you have a speedometer, the ECU in most intelligent algorithms can have access to this via OBD2. If you have an ECU this means that for most intelligent ECUs you have a timer and most likely a clock. Then from these two values you can make a pretty darn good accurate calculation of the time it took the car to get from a dead stop condition to 60 miles per hour. Having said that, The OBD2 packet takes in the matter of milliseconds for an 11 bit CAN identifier to transfer the time it too for this change in speed to happen. It might be slightly off by a matter of milliseconds. So give or take a millisecond,!?? I am good with that. I don't know what MCU is inside the ECU of a Lotus but for most cars I have dealt with form GM, Dodge, the firmware has been notoriously done in a Power PC architecture. So there are few OBD2 gadgets I would have a tendency to rely on for these results. Now for the video frame count, the only discrepancy is found when the video editor slowed or sped up the video, than the video frame by frame is no longer a 1 to 1 real time reference. If the video is raw and untainted, then that can be used to compute the time it took for the car to get to 60 mph.
There was a Krypton Green Exige at Lotuspalooza in Carmel, Indiana this year. Wife brought her Evora and me my Turbo Elise. THE Krypton green is a stunning color in person.
Really nice review! Well put together and laid out. Good info, angles, etc. Always been a Porsche fan & never cared for Lotus but this got me thinkin. Good job.
I don't care what anyone says, the Exige is prettier than any Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Aston Martin ever made. And it makes every other car you drive feel like driving a bus.

Production on this channel is of world class.
Great review bro, I subscribed after a couple of minutes. Love that you were critical about the gear shift. We need honest reviewers
fantastic review, going to tell all my friends about this channel! Best car channel on RUclips!!! KEEP IT UP
After this video, the subscription to your channel was the only option. Amazing video, thanks!
I dont know which i love most, the narration, superb production or that sexy ass exige. Excellent vid my dude
This car is new to me. Thanks for the introduction. Love the car, love the video, love the place and love the people...
sooooooo i was doubting on getting a Lotus because i have a Porsche Cayman, but this convinced me.
Thank you 👍
Thanks! I've been itching to compare the two cars at some point to satiate my own curiosity. Maybe that'll happen soon.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Get BOE Torque 300 tune and put it up against the modified 4c... subscribed!
Man i been wanting to get a new weekend car. The lotus seems so perfect! Awesome video bro!
OOps!! I'm catching up! Congrats on getting the Exige!
Your content is top notch- keep it up! Oh and this car is amazing.
love your videos man, never seen such review videos like yours. keep it up!
The best car channel on RUclips!
First time coming across one of your videos. Format is amazing, brilliant videography and effects. It feels almost in between actually driving and playing a game. I really love the flow from one segment to the next. Brilliant
i know all of those roads!! they are really good driving roads and has a good snack stop
I'm stoked that you reviewed this car! I have always admired it. Bro, how are you so good at video editing??
There is a good chance that I may end up never giving it back to it's owner 😄. I wish I was better at the actual editing, my forte is only camera and lighting. But I have no choice, the show must go on.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy to my untrained eye I suppose it's all the same. The vids are just dank af.
6:59 That isn't strange, steering should be exactly this way.
Lotus deserves serious praise for persevering with narrow front tyres when it would be much easier to compromise.
Love your filming style! Appreciate this video (from a fellow Lotus Owner) you nailed it!!! Subscribed!
Great video
3:56
Handy replay button for that sweet Yamaha sound!
I wish I had seen this before. Very nicely done video, great camera work, and audio work. Beautiful car too!
I miss the 2zz in my celica. Hopefully one day I can get into one of these.
First time watching this channel and the quality and monologue is fantastic! Cheers
I got through 7 minutes of this video and needed to comment...and like...and subscribe...good job! Now on to the handling portion of the video.
Man, You really know how to tell a story. BRAVO
Never seen any review put together this well!
So I just randomly found the channel with the best car cinematics ever.
Great writing, story telling, and production. Love your shots. Keep it up. We'll be watching.
so if the frames are 1 to 1 as in real time, the second run with speedometer shown start at 4:26 and ends at 4':33 for a 0-6- statistical number and this shows a 6 second run. What am I missing?
FIXD obd2 has a really good way to time one's 0-60 times. that would be more accurate to see.
Really good video. I do love the color grading. Good job.
That’s a beautiful road for testing the 0-130! This car makes a surprisingly awesome sound!
Thank you for mentioning the manual!!!
You earned a new subscriber. This is amazing, high quality content.
My man here pulling off the Asian Idris Elba. Love it.
he's not old enough yet but he has definitely got it though.
Great and honest review as always. Keep up the good work
There was a Krypton Green Exige at Lotuspalooza in Carmel, Indiana this year. Wife brought her Evora and me my Turbo Elise. THE Krypton green is a stunning color in person.
Good info. Can't believe I'm just learning of this car; what it really is. Amazing.
Fantastic video, great photography and sound!
I am really loving the superwide aspect ratio...it looks incredible.
Extremely well done! Jason your car looks sick!!!!
At the Apex Thanks Evan!
I think you should definitely "accidentally" buy one!!
Great change from the usual run-of-the-mill reviews; refreshing. Thanks!
Really nice review! Well put together and laid out. Good info, angles, etc. Always been a Porsche fan & never cared for Lotus but this got me thinkin. Good job.
Just found your channel. Definitely can appreciate your viewpoint on cars, I hope your channel goes places.
god bless you for putting such great work into these videos
That was cinematic AF! And a wonderful tribute to the Exige. Subscribed.
One of the best car reviews I've seen in quite a while. Sub'd
I don't care what anyone says, the Exige is prettier than any Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Aston Martin ever made. And it makes every other car you drive feel like driving a bus.
Love the cinematography.
