regarding the story “tears,” they could’ve had only one teardrop active at a time, and after you witness each memory, Impa shows up to tell you a riddle, the answer of which directing you to the next geoglyph and tear, divulging the story in the proper order 🤷🏻‍♂️

the memories in _BOTW_ worked much better than the tears in _TOTK,_ though… both open-world games. generally, while less-developed in some ways, _BOTW_ had a more cohesive game world and experience, while _TOTK_ felt more haphazard… I think the way the tears could be found out of order, ruining the narrative, illustrates that problem well 😑

One of my issues is how the exploration that I experienced in BotW is just not all there. Hyrule isn’t all that different, just a few changes here and there, so you might get bored of a area real quick like I did. I was hoping to see more things like the temple in Garudo appear. No, that didn’t happen, just two in the sky and one in the depths. The way you can launch yourself into the sky, land on a sky island, and hop off into another area of Hyrule pretty much breaks the concept of exploration BotW had. The sky islands and depths don’t make up for it. The sky islands are kind of the same to where I get a feeling of deja vu. And they don’t impress me after the tutorial island, which felt more like how exploration in BotW did. The depths are dark. Just go from lightroot to lightroot to reveal it’s just a blander Hyrule. The temples are back, but I think they should included more than just tying them with the champions again. Overall, no way is it a bad game, it’s still great, but it doesn’t outdo BotW.

I love Totk so much, but I think the reason people think it was disappointing, is because they split the effort of the parts of the game. Because they had three aspects to the overworld, they couldn’t give 100% effort to each, leaving the remade surface not changed enough, and the two new parts not fleshed out enough. Not to mention they spent like half of the six years with ultrahand and other abilities 😭 that means everything else about it, overworld, dungeons, etc. weren’t givin the effort they should have.

My approach to fixing this game:
    - Instead of collecting tears for the Zelda storyline, those cutscenes should play after every dungeon instead of the one that was repeated 4 times. Make the cutscenes play in chronological order regardless of which order you play the dungeons
    - Add more visual variety in the Depths and Shrines. I didn’t mind them from a gameplay perspective but they could’ve been more memorable if they all weren’t visually the same
    - Allow fusing from the menu
    - Allow players to star their favorite items. That way, when fusing arrows, you would instantly get the item you want instead of waiting at the menu 10 seconds every time
    - Rework the sages. Make the system closer to Botw, where you hold specific buttons to activate their abilities, instead of having to walk in front of each sage individually
    - Make the shrine count 120 or 130 instead. With the remaining shrines, implement their puzzle elements in the dungeons so they feel longer
    - Add another sky island like the one at the beginning of the game. For a feature they advertised heavily, it is so weird how empty the skies are
    - VASTLY increase weapon durability
    - Finally, ditch the terminal action gimmick for dungeons. It was fine in the Lightning and Spirit Temple, but the other three are severely hurt by the lack of coherent structure
TLDR, I really loved this game, but had they fixed some issues with Botw (dungeons, UI issues, not following the Zelda formula, etc.), and if they didn’t miss a lot of potential, it would improve the game a lot.
Honestly I kinda feel bad for the game, it was REALLY overhyped at launch, so people would be set for disappointment in the future once they found out the game’s flaws

Tears of the Kingdom isn't a bad game, I enjoy it a lot, but it certainly was disappointing. The new editions to the overworld aren't enough to make Hyrule feel much different, there is literally only 1 new town, The caves look pretty similar to each other than size and on their own aren't enough to make Hyrule feel different. The Sky was extremely disappointing there is pretty much nothing to do there other than the same put the green stone in the correct spot shrines. The Depths arguably are better than The Sky but are for me the most disappointing aspect of the game. The Depths are literally just 1 biome except for Death Mountain, with the map size of all of Hyrule, and there is pretty much nothing to do there other than find lightroots, which get easy when you realize their all under shrines and extremely easy to spot in the depths, defeat monsters, find zonite, and the zonite factories. For an area as big as the map of Hyrule there is so damn little to do in it and it's honestly shocking how it made it in the game at all. I'd trade the entire Depths for a far more developed sky. Also I personally don't care for Ultrahand stuff at all and the game never pushed me to do kool and creative stuff with it so i simply didn't. My biggest problem with Tears of the Kingdom is that it's just Breath of the Wild again. Breath of the Wild is a great game, so the same game again with some new stuff I'm going to like to, but Tears of the Kingdom sorta advertised itself as being an entirely new Zelda game, not another way to experience Breath of the Wild, and that's what disappoints me. It's just a kooler Breath of the Wild, not something new and interesting that actually builds upon Breath of the Wild to create something entirely new. This especially hurts because Tears of the Kingdom took 6 Years to develop. It took 6 Years for another Breath of the Wild, which most of those 6 years were perfecting a physics engine I personally don't care for that much, and not actually making a really new experience. I am also personally mad that there is no mentioned connection between Ganondorf and Calamity Ganon in the game I thought the game was gonna certainly answer but it just didn't? This seems to be a issue with Tears of the Kingdom kinda just ignoring Breath of the Wild happened like with the Sheikah Technology magically disappearing with no explanation. It's honestly so weird how Tears of the Kingdom does that. I personally feel like Hyrule should've been changed drastically and changes the way you explore it, like everyone in existence has said Link should've gone to the past instead of Zelda and would've been a far kooler game that way i don't really need to explain why, or Hyrule could've been flooded Wind Waker style and have you explore a flooded Hyrule. Wind Waker's overworld i think had the biggest potential out of any Overworld in Zelda and the Ocean overworld could've been greatly expanded upon to, and have you explore way more of the ruins of the kingdom beneath the Ocean way more. Maybe there should be a whole new story to accompany this, maybe it's not even the same Link & Zelda from Breath of the Wild but future incarnations of them that live upon the new islands that were the mountain tops of old Hyrule. This is a whole lot of yapping but I think i got my point across.
Tears of the Kingdom overall feels like a second draft of Breath of the Wild than a new game, especially with how they just ignore the Sheikah Technology and Calamity Ganon ever happened. That's why i'm disappointed in Tears of the Kingdom, it's just like a Breath of the Wild but they had 12 years of development time instead of 6. Again, with 6 Years of development time i kinda expected far more from this game ya know? Despite all the issues Tears of the Kingdom has i wouldn't call it a bad game at all, I enjoy it just as much as Breath of the Wild, but there isn't enough to distinguish it from Breath of the Wild. It's not a bad game but it is an extremely disappointing one.

i'm glad you mentioned the voice acting, i don't see that brought up as often when people talk about BOTW/TOTK. so many other video games have managed to have incredible English voice acting that sounds like it fits in the game, but for some reason, to me the VA in these games has always sounded like a fan dub or something (nothing wrong with that btw, just not what I'd necessarily want or expect from a Nintendo game, especially one from their second-biggest series)
the actors are great at their job, absolutely no disrespect to them at all, i think it was probably just the direction given to them that made the VA suffer. and the way the voices are mixed from a technical audio perspective, it doesn't at all fit with the rest of the sounds in the game and sticks out like a sore thumb. it's hard to really explain what specifically it is, but to my ears the voices just are not mixed well into the game. it sounds like they just slapped the voice track on top of the audio and didn't bother to properly mix the audio so that it sounds in line with the way the other audio tracks sound. it doesn't sound like it's coming out of their mouths, it sounds like it's coming from some kind of omnipresent speaker system in Hyrule positioned beside each of Link's ears at all times haha.
and honestly the way they speak just sounds like a children's TV show or something. i thought the addition of VA was cool, i'm all for mixing things up in Zelda. but in execution, the English dub is so off-putting and has always taken me out of these 2 games.

I think the ending could have been a lot better if the Zelda franchise had some kind of ancient relic that grants any wish you want when you collect all of the pieces. Maybe they could have used something like that to make Zelda a human again. But that would be stupid. We all know something like that doesn't exist in Zelda. We only have Secret Stones. Let's just allow Rauru and Sonia to do it even though they seemed to think they didn't have the power to do so earlier.

There are several things that I do not agree with, but I am going to focus only on the ending, the scene in which the dragon of light returns to be Zelda, to understand what happened you have to look at two scenes, first in the attack of the Moldora by Ganondorf, in this scene to amplify Rauru's power and repel the Moldora, Sonnia and Zelda stand behind him with their arms extended, the second scene is the one in which Sonnia pushes back a cup before it falls, Sonnia tells Zelda that to return something to its original state you have to use the memories of the object, the word memory here is key, because Link during the game is collecting Zelda's memories, that is why in the end they return it to its original state with Rauru and Sonnia amplifying (like in the Moldora scene) the power of recoil through Link, there are no script holes, it is explained, perhaps it is better understood in Japanese

That is an interesting way to look at it. If that was Nintendo's intention I feel like it could have been a bit more obvious, but sometimes being subtle is good. Tears of the Kingdom is a great game, and in most ways is Breath of the Wild but better. Unfortunately for me, it didn’t recapture the experience of playing Breath of the Wild for the first time. Going into the unknown of BotW on launch day and playing through it was the best experience I have ever had playing a video game, and it will always be one of my favorite games for that reason alone. TotK felt disappointing because of how been there done that it was. I knew what to expect, and the same map lessened the sense of wonder. TotK does so much well though. The physics system is taken to further extremes, the amount of stuff to do is insane, and I agree the bosses and soundtrack were amazing.

I gotta disagree with some of your points. While fuse was creative and had great potential, it tripped on it's own foot by making it's only real use in-game to be fusing monster parts since otherwise your weapon does NOTHING. They made a big deal out of putting mushrooms and flamethrowers at your shield but the effect is so pitiful you will 99% of the time just stick a boko horn in your Royal Sword and call it a day.
Also, Ultrahand sucks. It's literally useless. You can build a goddamn Gundam with it, but it'll take 2 hours and be gone in 2 minutes. This entire game felt like two real creative concepts that didn't at all fit into Zelda so they shoehorned a game into them.
Also, another HUGE disappointment for me was enemy variety. There are less types of enemies than Zelda 1. Back in 1997 with Ocarina of Time, each region and dungeon had its thematic enemies, for TotK in 2023, 26 years later, we're just stuck with basically the same enemies from BotW + Zonai Constructs for dungeons. The only exception for that (and one of the main reasons why it's the best dungeon in the game) is the Lightning Temple, which appeared to be the only one they actually tried to creatively develop.
This game doesn't deserve a single 10/10, it doesn't even deserve a 7/10. It's Adventure of Link levels of mid.
Score is great, though. Beautiful soundtracks.

    • @Mr.EelBoi
      @Mr.EelBoi 5 месяцев назад

I couldn’t agree more! It feels like the entire game was trying to feel creative with Ultrahand, and it just doesn’t work with Zelda. The series isn’t supposed to be a sandbox game. It doesn’t contain the essence of what Zelda really is. This is part of the reason why I am so worried about Echoes of Wisdom. It feels like this sandbox format will be the new direction for the series. I am not the most optimistic about this approach.
Don’t get me wrong, Breath of the Wild was one of my favorite games of all time. When I explored its world I felt free. Totk just wasn’t able to recapture the lifeblood of its predecessor.
In a way, I prefer the “classic/old” Zelda formula. The linear layout of the games were able to give so much more depth to its story. Botw just felt like a breath of fresh air to this format. The additions in Totk just felt : copy and pasted, worse, and empty…
      ahem… (the Depths)… ahem…

@@archer5834 Zelda isn't about anything in particular aside from puzzle solving, exploration and dungeons with lore also being important, but story not necessarily. Ultrahand is a good mechanic. It's creative and it's fun. All zelda games have a gimmicky mechanic that's different. Wind Waker's entire world is literally an ocean, you can transform into creatures like Mario Odyssey in Majora's Mask as well as there being a time-loop, you can travel through time in oot, you can become a 2d painting in link between worlds. Idk how you being able to move and stick whatever you want together isn't what zelda games are about. I think ToTK has A LOT to criticize, but Ultrahand isn't one of them. The only reason I would criticize it is because the bike thing was way too convenient and was just used in every single situation instead of the game forcing you to be creative and make boats or cars.

It's an amazing game, but me being nit picky thinks they could have changed a few things.
1: zelda Lore is crap now, and I know that does not matter for most players, but the beginning of hyrule is different from how skyward sword said it was.
2: The story. I'm not a fan of how the story was presented.
3:Sage abilities. A letdown from the almost perfect champion abilities.
4:Sky Islands. They copied and pasted it.
    5:The depths. It was bland.
6:Where da hell did the sheikah go
7: great sky island, though beautiful is was not as fun as the great Plateau.
Overall, it's an amazing game with great combat, A wonderful final boss with great bosses in general. The shrines were fun and added to the puzzles. The fuse ability was amazing. A Wonderful sound track.

i feel like totk is either the best or worst game ever just depending on what one personally looks for more in zelda games. those who enjoy zelda's open worlds and side quests are bound to fall in love with it while those who prefer the linear progression and complex dungeons of past games are doomed to be disappointed with it (i fall in the latter category). while i did enjoy totk plying through it, it really did not leave much of a lasting impression on me and i have way less of an urge to revisit it as i do majoras mask or albw because of my personal preference for zelda games, but i totally understand why it receives so much praise and what audience it appeals to

I had to learn to love Tears of The Kingdom, the same way I had to learn to love Breath of The Wild. Whereas for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, for example, I fell in love with these games on my 3DS back in the day, pretty much instantly - sometimes more is less, I guess.
My main gripe with Tears of The Kingdom is that - unless you have nostalgia for it - this game kind of destroys any incentive to go back and play Breath of The Wild. I can do it, but my cousin who isn’t as nostalgic over Breath of The Wild finds it difficult.

  • @GhostDestroyer3

The game would've been better if:
    1. The Depths were smaller (quality over quantity).
    2. The sages abilities worked similarly to the champions abilities.
    3. More meaningful exploration in the sky islands.
    4. Banish the korok seeds to the shadow realm.
    5. Use the traditional zelda formula for dungeons (small keys, boss key, room explorations, mini bosses, different puzzles, etc.)
    6. Make the life of a completionist easier (too many shrines, too much map exploration, many meaningless shrine quests and side quests, the 1k korok seeds, etc.)
Best part of the game was the fuse mechanic, easily the most enjoyable thing from the game for me. Felt like I was playing Monster Hunter.

I get why people were disappointed with the ending, but honestly I couldn't see any way they WOULD do something like that. Maybe with a less significant character, but not Zelda of all people. For me though, I don't mind the fact that they did it, but more how quick and clean it was. It's like the game's saying "Alright, we need to wrap this up." but that's an unfortunate consequence of the game's end goal being "Find Zelda" since that has to be the last thing you do. I would have liked at least a side quest to change her back, like getting Ilia's memories back in TP.
"In Aonuma we trust" is a hard statement for me to agree with when he literally doesn't understand why people don't enjoy pure freedom, and thinks it's just nostalgia. XD

The way the sages worked was absolutely awful. As in "did they think about this for even 5 seconds"? It's ok to have someone following you when the actual sage is with you in their temple. But once you got them permanently it needed to just be an ability. Nothing like having your abilities run from you.
The UI for fusing and switching gear is also awful and had very little work put into it. There needed to be both gear sets and favorites for fusing.

BOTW is way better than TOTK... For sure in 6 years of developpement in the same map they upgrades some aspects (fortunately...) but this is just details... All the things that were already in BOTW like korok puzzles, shrine (puzzle and location), side quest, shrine quest, champions/sages abilities (also the activation...) were better in BOTW. And the new things they put in TOTK are not that good like sky and dephts that are repetitive AF. The dungeons are a little better, but they are not good for zelda game at all. Fuse is OK (annoying menu), but man wtf is ultrahand... This is so awful like are we in a Zelda game? This is long gameplay and not in the Zelda DNA. 100% completion is not good there is too much repetition stuff to do (real 100%). I am not even talking about armor upgrade with these fucking tails drops... Story is better in TOTK, but this is just flashback again... We do not get part of this story against Rauru and Ganondorf. Deceiving. This is one of the worst if not the worst Zelda ever... I enjoy it anyway cause i am a huge Zelda fan, but it is one of my worst... I really love BOTW tho. Caves in overworld are the best addition for sure I reallyyyyyy like it!

3:43 I'm glad I'm not the only one that didn't like this ending. Obviously out of all of the links and zeldas we know these two should get a happy ending with how much shit they've went through. The game constantly saying its irreversible then cheesing it with ghost magic out of left field pissed me off. The least they could've done is let zelda keep some dragon traits like small horns and a tail to show that the reversal wasn't perfect, also Link should've kept the zonai arm. (I had an argument with a person on Twitter about this part and they said how it wouldn't have been cohesive, at that point it was less about cohesion and more fan service honestly).
Though I don't think Zelda' voice was THAT terrible. They tried to make her like a british nerd, that's adorable.
The first trailer for this game made it look like it was gonna be big on lore implications and how Ganondorf was fit into all of it. Instead we got a half baked story and mildly fun gameplay mechanics added on top of the existing map. This game was not worth the $70 dollars it costed me, maybe $40 at best since it was just more DLC made into a new game.

I would say, while I loved playing through and completing alot of TotK, over 300 hours of it, it did feel pretty shallow overall, like BotW+, not that that whole "$70 DLC thing" but just more of the same in some regards. While I think they did do some things better in Tears, I mostly did enjoy the simplicity nature and story of BotW, and mostly did love the final cutscene after the credits better in BotW rather than TotK. Idk, guess after all of that completing, just made me feel a bit empty, not much left like with past Zelda games like Twilight Princess being my favorite game. Either way, it still is an amazing game and I mostly had a blast playing it, even if the Sky Islands were mostly small and subpar and the Depths were way too huge and very empty. And you keep doing what you're doing, your Zelda content is pretty good so far.

Can I be real-life in this one? I wanted to see a Hyrule that was restored from after the monumental DEMO they did to it for BotW. I got kicked in the face by COVID-era depression, and still hadn't fully recovered from that by the time this thing came out, because I'm immunocompromised, so I spent a good three years almost entirely by myself, sitting in the room I'm in right now. I wanted a LIVING Hyrule, one where you could go on an amazing adventure that actually made sense with previous lore. Because I was born in 1990. So by the standards of today, I'm an old-school Zelda fan, since my first-ever Zelda game was Link to the Past, and I WORSHIPPED Oot, MM, and WW. "Zelda isn't about story," tell that to Oot. "Zelda isn't about character growth" tell that to MM. I STILL hate the shrines, thanks for checking, and I've only ever seen footage of the temples. Know why? Because I put the game down after leaving the sky for the first time. I have literally never TOUCHED it again. What an exquisite waste of money, not to mention developer time.
Also, the no music thing GRATES on me. 'Zelda isn't about music." TELL THAT TO, ahem, I'm sorry, OCARINA of Time. It's a musical instrument. Hell, tell that to Skyward Sword. I HATED the motion controls and I still like it better than either BotW or TotK.
And THAT is all before even watching the video. After watching...yeah, okay, the Congera theme and the main theme are pretty kick-your-teeth-in badass, and I AM A MUSICIAN, so I feel I have the right to judge, BUUUUUUUUUUUUT, where does the Colgera theme come from, hmmmmm? Dragon Roost. Sigh. Dragon Roost. Just saying those words together makes all problems disappear.

I liked TOTK, I played a lot and exploded pretty much 100% of the maps, however, I feel like the game can be very poor in a lot of parts, Breath of the Wild pretty much executed everything flawlessly, I'm not saying the game was perfect, but it definitely feels very polish and well though out.
TOTK however, it feels kinda lazy and jenky sometimes, the sages and the UI in general is not very good, there is a lot of copy and paste material and the structure of the game is a lot more linear.
Breath of the Wild was such an original game, you can totally feel the love that the developers put into the game, TOTK just tries to replicate the same thing and in my opinion fails a lot. I think it would be better if they had made a new game entirely and not a sequel, the game has some really fun ideas, but the game is hold back by trying to fit in the BOTW formula.

It felt like I was playing the most awesome ng+ ever and my experience on Totk obliterated my memory of Botw. In the future I don't think I would ever replay Botw, it just seems like a beta version of Totk.
I think we can say everything that isn't loved about Totk can be summed up by: "We now wait way too long between major Zelda titles". If Zelda games were released every three years or so like it used to be I don't think anyone would have made a big deal of Totk lack of novelties. I too wish for Nintendo to release shorter and denser Zelda games, more frequently. I love replaying older Zelda games in half the time I did in my initial playthrough. Botw/Totk feel like their value is the discovery.

The only part I loved was the whole wind temple arc. But the rest is just missing the essence for me. and after 6 years of developement to just put in two "regions" that feel as if they were only implemented because they felt obligated to is simply not enough. Gameplay WAS amazing, but that something MANY other games have for them, I don't need a Zelda for that.

This game was just too filled with "stuff". You have the hundred twenty odd temples. The hundred twenty odd light shrines, the bubble frogs, the various gear for unique abilities, the various gear for the previous Zelda games, the memories, the translation and on and on. I don't get the hate for saying it looks like BotW as it was supposed to be a direct sequel. I would expect it to be the same landscape and yes, the story is very weak. They added in the building mechanic (which like most, I rarely ever did except when game-required) and beefed up the gliding mechanic but mostly just jammed it full of collectible, grinding fluff. I'm firmly in the camp of this just being an $80 DLC. I've gone back through BotW half a dozen times in the various modes. This one, however, once I finished it, I put it down and haven't cared to pick it back up since.

They tried to allocate too many resources they should've scrapped the depths and focused all their efforts on making the sky amazing. Stick to lore and keep shrines in the same place. Perhaps the shrines can't be accessed and there is a new gimmick like sky shrines or w/e. Cutscenes should've all been unique, make unique dialogue for each one, that doesn't focus on how many dungeons you've completed put a unique spin on them. I would like to see nintendo do 2 Linear Zelda games and every third game open world, it would be a good balance, b/c OW Zelda will get boring after a while. I would love to see an OW Zelda game like Original NES LOZ, with 8 dungeons and you just go and find them in w/e order. Have a bonus dungeon that gives you a double magic meter for beating it, or put fairy fountains with similar upgrades at the end. The 9th dungeon cannot be accessed til the first 8 are beaten, unless you do a gauntlet that will let you permanently enter dungeon 9 when you beat it.

Nintendo supposedly spent an entire year on polishing the game which is insanely hard to believe when you have things as clunky as the inventory, the sage abilities and the games overall performance. With how long the development of this game was overall I think there should have been at least a little bit more to give a fresh take on the breath of the wild's formula. But instead they seem to have stuck with everything that breat of the wild did, the good things are better and the bad things are worse (e.g. the padding with the sidequests, the lackluster dungeons and more).
I don't know if this is a hot take or not but I think nintendo should have just not made the depths and used the time to focus on improving the skys and revamping the map. Some People under estimate how much a games map can make the entire game as a hole feel so new. I still really like the game but not as much as breath of the wild becuase they could have done so much more to create a fresh take on the previous formula used (although the devs have stated that this game came around because they had ideas for more breath of the wild dlc, so i guess its not that supprising).

Minus Muktarok. I hate that thing, lol. I really think if TotK had a DLC like BotW there'd be a little less hate from some of the fanbase, maybe. I mean come on I need my sword trials! :P
Regardless, I've played through the game three times already and I still do find things that I didn't know existed or could be done in the game (this excludes building crazy Zonai contraptions). I'll honestly probably play it a 4th time. Not a "perfect" game but still pretty amazing, IMO.
I will end by saying I think the story in this game was better than BotW. I know it totally makes the canon whack but, eh, time travel is weird like that, lol. I just enjoyed the ride. I did get quite emotional at the very end though with the final skydive part. Here's to whatever they do with the series next.

i will say it make sense that zelda get turned back into her mortal human form or else the franchise like timeline wise would get screwed since the curse that demise put on her, aka she cannot reincarnate when she is a immortal dragon

I haven’t watched the vid yet but I’m my opinion the hype and build up was so big it was never going to reach expectations I think the depths and sky have not enough to do and we all mostly played multiple play through of botw so exploring the new map was not really that exciting to much cause we already know everything as long as the next Zelda ain’t in this style or world it will be amazing

Another banger from Ryan, this was such an optimistic way to criticize and praise such a polarizing game. Keep it up, bro.

I overall agree but I'm concerned with the portrayal of the divide in the intro. I had a good time with TOTK besides my annoyances coming up regularly, it's still a great experience, just hard not to say what I would like to see improved because I care enough. But I can't count the times that someone assumed I was only here to hate, while I would also defend the game against actual haters. So yes there are vocal extremes that lazily say "0/10" or "10/10" and will deny any in-between, but I think a lot of the criticism has been largely shared despite people clearly enjoying the game for its strengths. Every entry had its pros and cons, only this one had more hype behind it as a follow up to BOTW and an actual straight sequel, and more potential as their biggest production yet. Can't wait for the next generation on "Switch 2".

I loved this game more than botw, but I think a lot of peoples criticisms make sense. The ending was a little asspullish and the depths and sky islands were a little too homogenous sometimes. I think the spirits reminded me of old Zelda items but a little sloppier. The game is super ambitious and I think it’s a refined botw. Great videos by the way keep it up 🎉

The Dragonification is a thing that is logically explained with a Hyperrecall that Sonia and Rauru made with Link, causing Zelda to have a huge Age Regression of 10s of tbousands of years - which is nothing new in Zelda looking at Mommy Purah.
And it also happened for two other reasons:
    Reason 1:
Zelda is the Last Heir of Hylia's Legacy.
She is the last Descendant of the Royal family and thus the Last Descendant of the Goddess of Holy Light that became mortal. All of he Descendants inheired her holy powers.
In order to have more Descendants every Zelda needs to get babies.
If this Zelda then suddenly is doomed to stay as a dragon she will be unable to have Descendants, and this means this us THE ABSOLUTE END of THE LEGEND OF *ZELDA*
    You may argue:
Then Aonuma can make another Direct Sequel for a Happy Ending
That's where we come to Reason 2 for why it didnt end that way:
Aonuma is finished With the Wild Era.
he said he did everything he wanted and they already put all their gameplay ideas they had in this Version of Hyrule.
he is out of ideas on how to make better and more interesting gameplay in a Direct sequel paired with lore to build around it.
He is finished, there will be no Botw 3, and thus he wanted to end the Story of this Link and Zelda with a Happy end they deserve

People are hating on totk because they keep thinking about what it could have been or should have been. Just appreciate it for what it IS.

I think the game can not be what we wanted necessarily, but also not necessarily be a disappointment. I was aware of the very real possibility that Nintendo's vision for it was different than the fans' so I made sure to only go in with the expectations set by Breath of the Wild, and as such I found such a great appeal to this game that I hadn't really thought I would and it's now become one of my favorite games ever, maybe even my favorite Zelda game which I've never been able to come even remotely close to figuring out. There's a lot I don't like about it for sure; the Master Sword is super underwhelming especially after how much hype the story gives it (the MsgNotFound is its only saving grace), Puppet Zelda is written super weirdly and inconsistently, and that god-forsaken materials quick menu that takes 5 years to navigate damn near ruins an otherwise fantastic game mechanic, but the vast majority of my all-time favorite games have their own fair share of issues: The Mario Galaxy games have Spring Mario and Purple Coin Stars, Metroid Prime has Fission Metroids and the Artifact quest, and Subnautica is glitchy as all hell, but they're still fantastic overall. I think with this game, we need to find a better balance of acknowledging how it could've been improved while still seeing the amazing things it did pull off.
I also have a bit of a side point regarding the Light Dragon. I can absolutely see how that ending can be viewed as a cop-out or a cheap happy ending, but I think a big reason it didn't bother me was that (outside of just being an incredible moment all around) especially so early in this kingdom's life, saying "draconification is irreversable" can easily just mean "we don't know how to reverse draconification". I kinda wish they made the actual explanation a little less vague, but given what Zelda says about being woken up by a "warm, loving embrace", I'm very confidant it was just the same as with her power in Breath of the Wild only it's her soul being awakened this time by her connection to Link with Sonia and Rauru using their ancestral Time and Light powers to create a bridge connecting the two. This has been debated to hell already, but I also disagree that Zelda would've been better off remaining a dragon since although it certainly would've given much more emotional weight to the story, it would really go against her arc in BotW where she struggles between following her own path and the path cut out for her; ending her story by having her permanantly seal her entire being away as her destiny would be really harsh.

Also my expectations were tempered. I was hoping that totk would be more traditional but I didn’t think it was going to be. Still ended up not loving it. Don’t hate don’t love. Just ok

A lot of complaining. Some complaints are true and some are nic picky.
So did you ever get over some of these things and enjoy the heart of the game? The depths are really the best part of the game because it taught you to make builds by having constructs give you schemas and also at the Yiga camps. And you constantly find the numerous locations with Zonai devices lying around to provoke ideas and encourage you to use auto-build in the best ways.
And actually the depths made it more challenging to fly than when in the sky above Hyrule. When I was in valleys in the depths, I would have to fly in an upward spiral while dodging those very tall trees and walls that reach hundreds of feet in the air. I thought that aspect made the depths the best part. The depths was more about learning traversal with challenges, which was fun while collecting zonaite. And the zonaite collecting from this perspective is fun when you got plans for certain builds.
