As someone who works with SDS rotary hammer I will tell what’s the point of it: When you are up in a 10 foot ladder drilling horizontally over your head the hammer drill will do nothing for you
Really wish you was a little further up north to visit the shop. Glad you got the Internet sorted to get the video uploaded today, keep up the epic work.
Just got the gen 3 m18 myself, always considered an sds but the sort of stuff I do it looks like I made the right decision. Again, another great video. Please please keep up the Milwaukee content!
Impressive work from the hammer drills but another advantage of SDS is it doesn't burn out drill bits so quickly. Also when you hit a concrete lintel the standard drill really struggles but the SDS goes through it like butter.
Been really impressed with the m12 stuff, for my use they’ve been great, I’ve been pondering about the m12 sds but seeing this makes me think for my limited use the hammer drill will do!
I do industrial maintenance so my gen 2 hammer been great !! I have spline available for larger jobs especially bc pre cast 18"-20" thick walls. Every day use = sds. Also reason I ordered one for the job box for the rest of maintenance guys :) bonus is still get sds bits in hammer drill lol
Was a bit shocked at how well the m12 hammer drill did. You could see it struggling as the hole got deep though. Good for an odd bit where you need a hole in masonry, but if you are going to do it on the regular or need to go deep, then the rotary hammer is the way to go.
How long would you guys say those bits last? Ive got a few jobs coming up which will require anchoring into sidewalk cement and im wondering how many bits ill need.. If anyone else has any input, itd be greatly appreciated. (I know that therre are many factors that come in to play regarding my question but anything helps) Cheers!
The biggest differences are all in favour of the SDS. The drill bits last much longer, the batteries last much longer, the SDS doesn't lose much power/speed when drilling a more difficult surface (the chuck drill loses a significant amount of speed when doing this) and the SDS does all of the work for you. Notice how hard the guy with the chuck drill had to work/push to make the drill even come close to the SDS. Image having to drill holes all day long, that would be a horrible day if you had the chuck drill.
So much innuendo, don't know where to start 😹 But I will say I've always preferred SDS as anytime I used a regular masonry bit in a percussion drill, the chuck always loosened up. Curious your tip about reversing the chuck a tiny bit. Cheers!
I think the larger the diameter bit, the more the SDS will shine. I've been using the regular hammerdrill for years for my tapcon installs, and it does perfect. But for sinking 3/8" anchors, I reach for the SDS every time. Also, the SDS can do demo work.
The chuck on my Gen 2 hammer drill doesn't sound right after drilling five holes on a sidewalk one day. It still works though. But definitely felt that vibration on the 3rd hole.
I recently bought a Gen 3 M13 Hammer Drill and had to drill a couple of 1/4” holes in a concrete wall, it performed perfectly. I had later wandered how much faster would it have been with the M18 SDS. You guys made this amazing video answering exactly that! I am astonished by the lack of different between the two when it comes time to use the smaller diameter masonry bits.
Love these videos just when your testing rather than racing to do 4 holes do 4 holes but one at a time to test the actual drill abit more rather than the user ? Just a suggestion love the vids!
Impressed with the M12 drill are they worth having one when you have M18 drill was thinking about getting an m12 drill for drilling holes in stumps for eco plugs 👌🌲 might have to get one now well done guys another wicked video
I have a whole m12 kit and a lot of the same in m18 as well... I honestly almost never touch my m18. M12 gets the job done superbly and is much lighter. But i'd still like a good excuse to get an m18 sds
This is the 5th tile project we've done where we've removed the old tile before installing new tile, and the first one with this tool ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqqoaX03nrziKwF7Bjjcc71YzLEleMvOS . I want to cry for all the unnecessary work we've done in the past. With this tool, we removed tile surrounding a fireplace, as well as the hearth tile, set in loads of cement, in less than an hour. I highly recommend this tool. It was easy to use, and very satisfying watching the tile literally fall off the wall.
Fingers crossed for the next time there machineries are the best and they’re very friendly people if you struggling to find something you want they will find it for you 😎😎😎
No.. gentlemen. Yall need to be drilling into concrete SLABS. THATS A TRUE MEASURE OF STRENGTH, INNOVATION, & GRIT. DRILLIN random stray blocks is hardly a test
I agree with some of the other commenters that the two tools can be quite comparable in some basic stuff but when it comes to the weird situation where you’re going through steel decking with concrete and there’s rebar + a hard spot of aggregate, the drill will struggle but the hammer drill will handle it just fine.

Where is Project Man? Is he here with us?
So glad to see a British company representing Milwaukee. Best brand of tools I've had the pleasure to use. Thanks a bunch, gents.

Just goes to show how tough the regular hammer drill from Milwaukee really are. Great test guys
Thank you Claus, it really is surprising! 🤩🤩

Thank you Mike, that’s a really good point 👍🏼
I'm torn between m12 fpd and m12 sds. And after watching your video, it just adds more confusion to my decision-making process. Thank you very much😅
thanks for the tip on how to remove the sds bit! I was struggling with it
Been really impressed with the m12 stuff, for my use they’ve been great, I’ve been pondering about the m12 sds but seeing this makes me think for my limited use the hammer drill will do!
Thank you John. It was certainly interesting 👍🏼
Those hammer drills performed really well, I'm shocked 😮 great video guys!
They hammered through it hey! 😂
Could you do a comparison between the "old" M18 sds drill (2712/CH) used here VS the new one (2912/FH).
When we get hold of one we do exactly that for you 🤩
@@MachineryNation I have the new one, had the old one but sold it before I could properly test them head to head.
Great video, I use the m18 combi gen 3 for everything and it's a great bit of kit
The m12 fuel tools are my go too first thing I bring in on the job love the little fellers
Awesome Harlan 👍🏼
I had no idea these were that powerful that's awesome 👏 just saved me from having to buy the massive SDS Hammer drill 👍
Do you think I’d be able to drill a 15-20mm wide hole (about 4 inches deep) in concrete using the M18 percussion drill?
The suction cup on the 18 is what really saves you when hitting granite ceiling tops on jobs
Nice tip thank you 👍🏼
@@MachineryNation no problememo. Your channel is kick ass. Keep it up
Never messed with the M18 stuff as i love the size of the M12. But videos like this where you can see the massive power difference makes me ponder it
Another great video, thank you, guys. Cheers!
Thank you Garrett 🤩
So what’s the most powerful m18 hammer sds drill at present on Milwaukee europe range? Asking as the US have different models
Great video I still have my fingers crossed for 1 of them milwaukee tools 🤞
🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 is too Dan 🤩
The return of the two Ronnie's. As always funny funny funny. Congrats Gary
It's surprising how many people don't know about the Locking Chuck!
🔨👍😁👍🔧

Love ❤️ milwaukee tool's I have one in my hand every day! 🇬🇧
Hi are you going to be getting the m18 Milwaukee battery mower and testing it?
Waiting for it to arrive at the mo and video will be up shortly after 🤩🤩 thank you Darren 👍🏼
Great video as always
Thank you John 😎

Defo agree 🤩🤩
How do you tell whether a Milwaukee drill is gen 2 or gen 3?

Great video congratulations Gary the hammer drills are a powerfull bit of kit
Cheers Ash, we appreciate it 👍🏼
Concrete always means SDS for me, but the standard drill is also impressive. Like the Milwaukee videos
What size is the m18 sds ?
Nice One Guys Thanks again
Thank you Darren 😃
Great video guys!

I use an sds for 3/8 and 1/2 shots. Have you used the m12 sds for these purposes
Is this gen 3 or gen 3.5?
Milwaukee should have you do all their commercials ! 👍
The chuck on my Gen 2 hammer drill doesn't sound right after drilling five holes on a sidewalk one day. It still works though. But definitely felt that vibration on the 3rd hole.
The gen 3 Chuck is so much smother!
Got m18 hammer drill it's perfect for small jobs 😊

I’ve got the m12 hammer drill, and it packs a huge punch. The m18 SDS is an absolute monster though!
Completely agree 🤩

Yeah, we have no idea what we’re are doing but it seems to work 😂😂
I'd like to see a review of drywall screw guns. Milwaukee, Dewalt and any other brand that's good.
Kool video 😮

Thank you Jacob. Yeah I love mine so much 🤩
good sds it helps a lot when drilling hard bricks
Defo Sparky, we should try it with large bits to see the difference 👍🏼
M12 is deffo in line to replace my old (crap makita drill 😂) looks very Impressive
Cheers Harri 👍🏼
Is it the drill or the drill bit that's really better ??
Now that is a great question Edward!
There’s not much between any of the power tools used today, all very capable. Nice jacket project man
i am impressed with both drills
Thank you Tim 🤩
They look very good and strong drills guys
Thank you Mark 😎
@@MachineryNation you are welcome 😊
Well done Gary

Hahaha I know exactly what you mean Joe 👍🏼
Love that tip
Thank you 🤩
Milwaukee m18 can hang with anybody in all the trades. Their platform is hands down the best overall.
100%
Still better than the Flex infomercial the other night
1 key into 2! Can we see that video, please!

we theses videos you with the m18 v m12 tool and videos you on this channel
Thank you Louie 🤩
i thought it was a powertool kit in big red sack
Also the hammer drill did not go as deep, as the SDS did any of the times. (Well any time that the hammer drill was in hammer.)
Haha yeah, we should work out a way to make it fair 😂😂
Do it in an old concrete slab that's much harder and the sds will shine.
I want them all 🤔
Yes 😎
I did 20 anckers with my gen 3 Hammer and it was almost burned up
I need that sds! A drill just doesn’t cut it!
I want that Jacket 😭 😂
I wish is was smaller so I could of kept it 😜
on both videos the taller guy doesn't know how to use an SDS drill idk if these are reliable lol they should switch tools mid trial
No.. gentlemen. Yall need to be drilling into concrete SLABS.
THATS A TRUE MEASURE OF STRENGTH, INNOVATION, & GRIT.
DRILLIN random stray blocks is hardly a test
Milwaukee for the win as always !!
No, going back one click does not make it more secure and lock it in. It has been debunked by the clutch manufacturers, including Jacobson.
The daddy ov them all if you could only have 1 drill on a desert island is the combi hammer

Great face off.
Thank you Alan 😎
M12
Sds will go through harder concrete well that's what I have found
The diffence is not so big.
someone learned not to reverse the drill
USA sc
Whats with over doing it with the whole safety thing goggles & stupid mask
I wanna win milwaquee m18 drill driver 🙂
