“It’s only a prequel until the day it retroactively stops being one” That quote perfectly describes how I feel about the constant retcons in this series
It doesn't help that the games have hit the "we're a franchise now" arc so even when the main story has a satisfying ending like in Pizzeria Simulator new games have to change that.
Viva I swear every video you release has more intricate storytelling than the last. There's multiple points throughout this video where it's clear you put in a ton of effort to make it work. The fact that you're able to make everything comprehensible despite going so fast is awe inspiring (although I guess that's the whole point of this series, isn't it?). I want to highlight the development of understanding of Toy Bonnie's mechanics throughout the video. At 1:12, we see the player getting annoyed at Bonnie for not coming out quickly. At first this seems like a random gag, but at 2:42, Bonnie's late-ness is pointed out again, suggesting a pattern. Finally, at 4:32, it's revealed that this is part of how Bonnie works. Everything culminates at 6:05 where Bonnie's behavior actually becomes a problem, and because of what we learned earlier, we know exactly why. I wasn't aware of this aspect of Bonnie before, and the way it was presented in this video was so smooth that I didn't even notice that I learned something, and it also adds a layer of depth after watching the video again. That's just really fuckin cool. Also I love the segment with Foxy at 1:31. Just something about the animation, timing, and delivery of the lines all coming together is very satisfying to me. I also like the detail that whenever there's a focus on Foxy, the scene plays out in almost the exact same way each time (guard left of door, swings flashlight around, yar har). I apologize for my ramblings, but you're such a huge inspiration to me, Viva. Your storytelling and animation is unparalleled. If by chance you see this, thank you for giving me the time of day, and thank you for everything you do
Game theory would easily be so much more legit if the theories didn't trip on inconsequential details and fall down fucking stupid rabbit holes that are CLEARLY not the direction of the intended story.
Absolutely true. Game Theory, despite the reputation, despite their importance, have gotten shit wrong many a time, some times it's been completely ignored or overshadowed because the series isn't nearly as popular as FNAF or other major franchises (as an personal example, MatPat calling the events of Murder Drones an allegory for World War II when it clearly isn't that).
@tomcaniff6437 The mission statement of Game Theory is to get the viewers to think not get every theory correct. Though I will admit that they do go down embarrassingly wrong rabbit holes more often than they probably should given that it's a full team of people
2:15 you know, I always figured the phone guy had the same voice in the first two FNAF games because hiring a voice actor didn't fit in the budget, so the dev just decided to do it himself again. As for the fanbase, they overfixated on this innocuous details, when the creator himself probably didn't think much about it at the time
I just realized that when the night guard said "Alright, it's time to get fired!" he was referring to both getting amped up and being literally fired from his job. That's really clever wordplay.
It would be epic to see the veteran version of the guard calmly walk up to UCN, sit back in his chair and say "bring it on!" as the image of 50/20 grows larger in the background. then 5 minutes from the guard in the zone
For the newbie version, I feel like he would go through the presets, seeing it as a checklist, after touching 50/20 with a 20-foot-long pole because of curiosity
@@thepixelartists5756 He sees people doing 50/20, and is like, "*picks up phone, searches something* Oh. Oh no. SHUT UP WITH THE DAMN STORY, PIGFACE, I'M BUSY HAVING A MAJOR BREAKDOWN! ...people are actually doing this? You mean I have to... oh no, I AM GOING TO LEARN-"

Y'know, the fear of FNAF 2 being retconned into NOT being a prequel is a genuine one i've had for a while. Ever since the books that "MaY oR mAy NoT bE cAnOn" started throwing around random twists or alternative answers to the stuff presented in the games, like the identity of the FNAF 4 protagonist, the vengeful spirit in UCN, people who turn out to be robots, etc, etc. The FNAF books where a mistake
The original 3 books were directly stated to be not Canon Frights were pitched as having stories "from across the fnaf universe, some canon, some not" and the description of each book continues to describe them as "taking place across the fnaf universe"(granted, making some canon and some not was a dumb move, but it's not like figuring out what is and isn't canon is difficult. If it ties back into the epilogue, it's canon. If it doesn't, it's not. That simple) And Tales is literally advertised as being part of the same timelines as the games, not to mention them actively being changed to reflect changes in Security Breach. As for the "alternate answers" and "random twists", literally all of those are just the fanbase was wrong. Cassidy was never The One You Shouldn't Have Killed. Not only does TOYSNHK use he/him, but literally no other instance of Cassidy ever acts like TOYSNHK(hell in the log book she is actively having a conversation with the person the others think is their killer) Fnaf 4 being an experiment may not have been the original intent, but since Sister Location it's been very obvious that's what it was, all Dittophobia did was actually explain what the experiment was for. And there's like 2 cases of robot people, one being from the novels which was a change specifically made to help explain and highlight how emotions and memories play into possession, and the second being an admittedly weird one-off story in Tales that was probably just like Mimic in a human costume or something The books aren't ruining fnafs story, what's ruining the story and making it confusing is the uncanny ability fnaf fans have gained to refuse to understand any plot point thrown at them(and also Scott being really bad at actually conveying plot points but like he's gotten better at that through trial and error
@The_Lord_Egg The fact that it isnt directly stated what is and isnt canon isnt a good look imo, because it keeps us suspended on a thread that we will never be completly sure what the cabon one is and isn't, which means the authors can choose what is canon and what isnt at free will without much thought, that's not a good story telling idea imo Plus all of the fnaf lore by itself already hangs by uncertain threads that we mever have a real, clear answer to, we only get thrown more breadcrumbs and more questions to answer
@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard FNAF was always intended to be somewhat ambiguous, posing more questions than answers. A major fear that a lot of horror stories play into is a fear of the unknown. If we go back to just FNAF1, all we have to go on for story is that there are four animatronics that want to stuff us into a suit as a form of murder, and the only other information that one can possibly glean are through random events referring to a bunch of missing children, the suits smelling really awful, and IT'S ME. You get the feeling these are all connected, but you don't the comfort of knowing exactly why. So, while yes, it does give Scott and co. to BS their way out of corners, vagueness is an integral part of how horror works.

@@lambda3952 FNAF 2 is a prequel to FNAF 1. In FNAF 2, this guy is on Dayshift but switches to Night Shift in the new pizzeria. When he’s about to hand off his shift to the new security guard for FNAF 1, he records instructions on the phone, but dies before completing his last week. “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out” (of life). It’s kind of a way of saying “good riddance”. Our player is preparing Phone Guy for how to play FNAF 1.
The silver night guard starts out as a neurotic noob, but by the end of it they've become a neurotic lore-seeker. The gold night guard starts out as an expert lore-knower, but by the end of it they've become an expert skeptic. The silver guard is actively seeking out as much of the lore as they can find, and the silver video has the WHERE'S MISTER LORE??? segments and the Phone giving out some non-context spoilers, but they're still rather nervous about it. The gold guard, meanwhile, stays jaded and handles the gameplay situation with pure muscle memory, but they keep asking the phone (and likely themself) if any of the presented lore is even relevant or if it's going to be ignored or retconned by the next game to open up even more questions without giving enough answers and ends it frustrated with the entire lore scene.
honestly I'm gonna love it if the FNaF 3 alt version is just the Nightguard and Springtrap arguing with each other since William would 100% take it seriously instead of trying to be comic relief. he *is* a serial killer, after all
I imagine the moment of the staring contest at the end of the night with Spingtrap and the Guard being them discussing oscure FNaF lore to see who wins. I also absolutely love how on the celebrate poster, Toy Bonnie's guitar has a trademark and copyright symbol on it referring to the fact that the old Bonnie guitar design was actually owned by Gibson INC. meaning Scott wasn't allowed to use that design and have to come up with a new original design for the classic game's console ports, Help Wanted One, Special Delivery, Security Breach, Help Wanted Two, and the movie. I sure hope FNaF 4 lore won't bring us some confusing pairs of confusing characters where one of them may or may not be more or less relevant than the other one, especially when the logbook finally drops to set on fire the whole f-ing fandom that is now constantly in a state of war arguying why Mike may or may not be younger, older, or even both at the same time, while Golden Freddy is now a party house full of angry children that are for some reason talking with each other through a book, while possessing the same body or something

This is a cinematic masterpiece, from the front-facing night guard, to the absolute destruction of the phone guy, this is why you’re my favorite creator on this platform.
1:34 Fun fact, phone guy tells you to try flashing the other animatronics because if you flash any animatronic (besides Balloon Boy, Puppet and, ironically enough, Foxy) on the cameras, you stun them for exactly 400 frames, or ~6.66 seconds. So it doesn’t exclusively work on Foxy, just exclusively on Foxy in the hallway

We know how important the quality of these videos is to you, so we’ll understand if you need more time.
This is just _hilarious._ Also, I love how the versions from "Red" and "Gold" are specifically the ones where the night guard knows everything about how the games work, just like how Red and Gold (Ethan) are in their respective Pokémon games.
If Viva goes through with this, and whenever she eventually gets to it (because these videos take a lot of work and she does nearly everything herself), Sister Location will be Black/White
so i actually counted how much time night 7 was, probably because the guard or jeremy fitzgerald said "start the stopwatch" it was approximately 01:17:06 or something in case you were wondering
I've never seen such an accurate FNaF 2 animation as this one. Explaining every detail of the characters + showing us how much RNG this game is based to the point where you have to use a timer for intervals makes this even more perfect. This is literally the REAL FNaF 2 experience.
This has got to be my favorite but really really fast so far. Love the dynamic of the animatronics with the player, the jokes are on point, you somehow managed to concisely fit the entire game's mechanics into a 1 minute interval with it still making complete sense AND engaging, like- Hot damn Viva, hats off to ya, fantastic work as always

It doesn't help that the games have hit the "we're a franchise now" arc so even when the main story has a satisfying ending like in Pizzeria Simulator new games have to change that.
@@nick0875yeah, for me the canon fnaf ending is that immaculate Henry speech

"what if game theory was wrong?"
A question we all need to fucking ask time to time.
What if his last theory was wrong?
Game theory is probably wrong about certain things, because it’s just a theory
As for the fanbase, they overfixated on this innocuous details, when the creator himself probably didn't think much about it at the time
The details answer the questions
Occam's razor
I just realized that when the night guard said "Alright, it's time to get fired!" he was referring to both getting amped up and being literally fired from his job. That's really clever wordplay.
It would be epic to see the veteran version of the guard calmly walk up to UCN, sit back in his chair and say "bring it on!" as the image of 50/20 grows larger in the background.
then 5 minutes from the guard in the zone
That image in my head is golden.
"Ah, finally, a challenge. I've got time to kill while deciphering the lore, might as well stretch my legs while I think."

Say what?
The original 3 books were directly stated to be not Canon
Frights were pitched as having stories "from across the fnaf universe, some canon, some not" and the description of each book continues to describe them as "taking place across the fnaf universe"(granted, making some canon and some not was a dumb move, but it's not like figuring out what is and isn't canon is difficult. If it ties back into the epilogue, it's canon. If it doesn't, it's not. That simple)
And Tales is literally advertised as being part of the same timelines as the games, not to mention them actively being changed to reflect changes in Security Breach.
As for the "alternate answers" and "random twists", literally all of those are just the fanbase was wrong. Cassidy was never The One You Shouldn't Have Killed. Not only does TOYSNHK use he/him, but literally no other instance of Cassidy ever acts like TOYSNHK(hell in the log book she is actively having a conversation with the person the others think is their killer)
Fnaf 4 being an experiment may not have been the original intent, but since Sister Location it's been very obvious that's what it was, all Dittophobia did was actually explain what the experiment was for.
And there's like 2 cases of robot people, one being from the novels which was a change specifically made to help explain and highlight how emotions and memories play into possession, and the second being an admittedly weird one-off story in Tales that was probably just like Mimic in a human costume or something
The books aren't ruining fnafs story, what's ruining the story and making it confusing is the uncanny ability fnaf fans have gained to refuse to understand any plot point thrown at them(and also Scott being really bad at actually conveying plot points but like he's gotten better at that through trial and error
@The_Lord_Egg The fact that it isnt directly stated what is and isnt canon isnt a good look imo, because it keeps us suspended on a thread that we will never be completly sure what the cabon one is and isn't, which means the authors can choose what is canon and what isnt at free will without much thought, that's not a good story telling idea imo
Plus all of the fnaf lore by itself already hangs by uncertain threads that we mever have a real, clear answer to, we only get thrown more breadcrumbs and more questions to answer
I disgree in my opinion
