James, welcome, and thanks for subbing. Man, I get very over analytical about the minutiae. I try really hard not show it. Ha ha But glad you picked up on it.
I explained this exact same thing to my wife yesterday. I mow at .75" early in the season with my Honda rotary and it looks great, but I have raised it during the summer and now @ 1.75 and every little low spot looks like I scalped it or at least shows the brown grass. It is what it is. On the down hill side of a miserable summer and looking forward to hunting season and cooler weather. I bumped up my monthly AS application about 15% trying to give it a little more green look. I`m leaving it at the current height for the winter after lowering it last year. I`ll deal with the clippings next spring. Thanks for the video. 👍👍
Hey, tpack! Yeah, you know how it works. Some years I choose to raise my HOC, too. But my turf gets way too dense, and my cut quality suffers 'cause my mower doesn't weigh enough. It starts to float like crazy. And yes, Fall is just around the corner. But now that I've done a mini-reset, I need summer temps to stick around just long enough for it to fill in. ha ha Thanks so much for watching!
Thx for the content. If u don’t have a verticutter and/or scarifier cartridge, I’d strongly recommend it. Also, aerating would help. My celebration Bermuda is dark green at 3/4” w all the practices I’ve mentioned. Lots of love from the west Texas desert
Hey, Randy. Yep. No point in having a cartridge mower if you aren't using multiple cartridges, right? ha ha I only had my verticutter for a short bit. It promoted way too much density for my taste. I use the scarifier only when I have an excess build-up of lawn debris. Other than that, I prefer to leave clippings in. I could've raised my HOC up, but my turf gets way too dense and the Kensington 20 doesn't weigh enough to NOT float on puffy grass. My sweet spot is in the 7/16 to 5/8 range. Thanks again for watching. Hang in there, Fall is just around the corner.
I knew the Barry White of Lawn Care would make an appearance. Over those sick beats too.
You had me at "sick beats."
I need to talk less over those. The whole point of this channel is ONLY to promote my music. ha ha
Great explanation! I’m a new sub and so glad you ‘geeked out’ on the details. 😊

I'm anxious to see the result!
Me, too, Grayfox! 😆
I do this every year, sometimes twice, and I always stress a day or two aftwr I do it.
