The Invisible Lawn Pest: Prevent Turf Disease BEFORE It's A Problem!
Lawn disease is the result of fungal spores. They are invisible to the naked eye, but they are most definitely on your lawn. They're not a problem until their numbers have grown. A fungicide can help control, reduce, and even eradicate a fungus.
Diagnose the potential fungus issues you have in your area and find an appropriate fungicide to treat your lawn to help protect it from stress and damage.

There's An Optimal Window For PreEmergent But It's Never Too Late To Apply
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.8 месяцев назад
The 2024 Lawn Season is off to an early start due to a mild winter, and as a result it seems Spring is longer than normal. This leads to soil temperatures that hover in optimal range for increased weed pressure. The most proactive control measure we can take is to use a pre-emergent herbicide to greatly reduce the amount of weeds that can sprout in our lawns. While there is an "optimal window" ...
The Weirdest Start To the 2024 Lawn Season! Too Early To Be This Warm!

If your geographic location is anything like mine, then you've probably had a super mild winter in 2024. Normally, I don't scalp my lawn until I know the coldest winter temperatures are behind us. This year, my Bermuda lawn started to show green leaf tissue in late January/early February. With as much green as my turf had, I went ahead and scalped my Bermudagrass down as low as I could go with ...

Thin, Dry, Yellow Grass? Try This One Simple Thing To Hydrate Your Lawn!

The extreme Summer temperatures dry out soil pretty quickly, and prolonged spells without rain or ill-timed irrigation can lead to your lawn's soil becoming hydrophobic. A soil that is consistently dry can develop a waxy/oily film that prevents water from penetrating. Regardless of how much you water, the water just beads up and runs off onto sidewalks or the street leaving your turf dry. When ...

Your soil's pH plays a big role in terms of your soil's fertility. Optimizing the pH of your lawn means that more of the nutrients found in your soil are readily available for your grass roots to take up. Very First Step To A Gorgeous Lawn: Eliminate Weeds The Quick Easy Free Way
Curiosity 100%. My yard is my playground. I love being out there putting stuff down, seeing what happens. Whether it’s trying different types of fertilizers, making compost teas, spraying various concoctions of molasses, kelp, mycorrhizal fungi, etc or seeing what the difference is between Hydretain, Hydr8, or Baby Shampoo…. Feeding the soil vs feeding the grass… it’s all my grown up happy place.
Looking great Jay! My backyard is going downhill and think I’m dealing with fungus. Typically when I apply fungicide is when I need it as opposed to preventative. What is your schedule & rotation throughout the year?
Hey Jay, do you do 1/4 rates of Simazine throughout the year like you do for Indaziflam? What is your app schedule for the fall?
@jasona4881 Jason!! Hope you're well, man. I only use Simazine twice a year--Spring and Fall. I mainly use it for poa control (as in when risk is highest). As for the rate, the rate on my bottle is .75oz/M. I use a rate between .5oz and .65oz. It works for me.
@@thelawnrenaissance perfect! Thx for the clarification. Also then your prodiamine at 3lbs/ 1k is also done twice a year fall/spring and Indaziflam is the only one broken up into 4 apps every 2 mos?
@jasona4881 I spray prodiamine. My yearly max rate is .83oz/M, but I only use about .55oz...maybe .6oz. When I was applying prill prodiamine, I was applying in the 2-3 lbs/M range. These days, I'm just leaning more on the indaziflam. I've been extremely happy with it.
@@thelawnrenaissance I have Indaziflam as well & just applied 1/4 rate last week.
I live outside Edmonton Alberta. I had my soil tested and the PH is at 7.9. Our tap water for this region is pretty hard and is at 10.2…. so watering the lawn just adds to the alkalinity of the lawn. I used to be able to keep my lawn as green as yours by watering every 2nd day and throwing down high nitrogen, quick-release fertilizers monthly. The problem was that as soon as I stopped applying the fertilizer, my lawn would die. At the beginning of this year however… I concentrated on bringing down my soils PH using the food-grade citric acid (same brand you used) and elemental sulphur (applied once in the spring and again in late summer around August). I will test next spring to see if it helped. My soil sample also came back low in Nitrogen and Phosphorus. So I added those 2 fertilizers monthly but used both a slow release nitrogen and a quick release nitrogen fertilizer. I also applied Humic DG monthly. My lawn is not only green now, it has thickened and it grows consistent in height whereas before, certain areas grew faster than others. The biggest difference though…. I only water maybe once a week as opposed to every second day! I’m excited to see what next springs soil sample comes back with! Ideally, I would love a 6.5 PH for my soil but if I can get it down to 7 over the next 3 years, I’ll be a happy guy! I also have a water filtration/softener system in my basement. I just need to get it all hooked up!
Same issue in AZ. The higher pH leads to slow damage recovery because of the reduced uptake. Pretty much left with foliar applications to ensure proper uptake.
What is the difference in effectiveness between soap,a non ionic surfactant and the much more expensive wetting agents…My guess is very little to nono
You ever tried a PGR? I just bought some T Nex and made my first app 5 days ago. Probably looking at re-applying every 12-14 days here in central Texas during the hottest part of the summer. I applied my first app at full strength for my Tifway 419 (.38 oz.) and never had any yellowing. I did apply some FeAture at the same time, so that may have helped.
Hey, TPack. Absolutely. It's something in my program. I also use T-Nex, although I have been curious to.try a two other PGRs that offer some different things. Once the heat really gets going around here, you're gonna find that you'll need to reapply every 10 to 11 days. (If you follow GDD's.) I see people being a little loose with their subsequent apps. It's so easy to punch your app info into a GDD calculator and get an ACTUAL reapplication day. As for the bronzing, it happens sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. The general rule is to always apply some N (and some foliar iron) with your PGR to reduce the chance it'll bronze. But it's still happens sometimes, and when it does, it typically only happens in the first 1 or 2 apps.
Do you immediately water the lawn after the citric acid application or can it wait until the next day or two?
Hey @roar. In short, yes. It's best to water in as soon as reasonably possible after application. Doesn't need to be super immediate, but it citric acid can cause tip burn. It also depends on how heavy-handed you were. If it wasn't much, then you can probably wait a bit longer. But I'd definitely recommend watering the same.day you apply. Thanks so much for watching.

Thanks, man. This one came together easily, too. Wish they all did.
In central Texas as well. Had to re scalp again yesterday as I’m trying to mainting just under .5” hoc but had not been able to get out there with all this rain. Therefore grass grew out of control. Hoping we get some warm weather so that I get a little growth and can start applying pgr to keep my mows at 2-3 per week
Great looking lawn...and no fertilizer app this season? Wow! I'm planning on applying preventative fungicide this coming week, what with all the rain we've been getting and elevated temps and humidity. I am going to apply Scotts DiseaseEx (bought it on sale) and spraying Propiconazole (using TeeJet AIXR110004 tip as suggested) on my Tifway 419. Dealt with some Dollar Spot and possibly brown patch last season. Was thinking of getting Cleary's 3336F fungicide and go totally liquid (no more DiseaseEx) for better coverage...do you think 3336F is better than Azoxystrobin to pair with Propiconazole for what I have to deal with?
Thanks so much for watching! You're fine using the azoxystrobin with the propiconazole, because the azoxy is a Group 11 fungicide while the prop is a Group 3. And actually, there is a fungicide that is both azoxy and prop. It's called Strobe Pro. I've never used it and have never read the label. But that may be an option.
@@thelawnrenaissance thanks...looked up Strobe Pro and it's a lot like Syngenta's Headway G...and when I checked out Strobe Pro, the more affordable one comes in granular form while the liquid can be quite expensive and not readily available in the usual online stores I get my stuff from.
@melmagsino5350 Sounds like you know you're way around already. That's always good to hear. I'm all about the most cost-effective way myself. 👍🏻

@StillTheJackyBear I just cleaned my flower beds up a bit...cut off all the dead stuff. But I really need to show them more love. Need to bust out my headge trimmer and sculpt the boxwoods.

Rev 26 is my guess…
You know, I hadn't even thought of using the "new mower" thing as a teaser. I should've played it up more! 🤣
Great video, what sprayer tip did you use? And did you water in right away or next day?
I generally use the TeeJet AIXR11004. It's usually breezy around here, so the bigger droplets from the air induction helps mitigate drift. And no, I did not water my application in. My main target is dollar spot, and since it's a foliar disease I want the droplets to land AND STAY on the leaf. So I let it dry for at least a day. If I was targeting a systemic fungus, then I'd water it in to get it down closer to the roots. Thanks so much for watching.
Looking great. Great video as always.
Hey hey, SuperTA!! Thanks, man.

Dude, I love this. Thanks so much. I was actually troubleshooting the video upload. Been waiting for a few hours for it to finish processing, and then you're comment suddenly came in. 👍🏻

Love your Hudson mower! Getting one of those soon.
I believe that is an Allett mower, sir. Unless you're referring to another video!
Thanks! Interested in both preventive fungicide and grub control applications. Already planning on applying liquid Acelepryn in mid-April and Scotts DiseaseEx and Propiconazole in April or May.
Hey, Mel! Thanks for watching. And yes, I have to decide which one of the ones I have I'll use, but I'll definitely share the fungicide app.
Great formula and explanation!!
Any links or the pre emergents you used, love to support the channel by purchasing from your links ..
This is very very cool of you. I really appreciate you thinking about that. I don't have an "affiliate" relationship with any herbicide retailers. My buddy and I went in on a bottle of the industrial strength formulation, but the friendlier home owner formulation is called Specticle Flo. Indaziflam is expensive, so you may want to consider going in on a bottle with a friend. But half a bottle will last a long while (depending on the size of your property), so it's definitely worth the money. Hope this helps. Again, thank you for asking for a link. Wish I had one to share.
But also, using something that's easier on the wallet like Prodiamine is another option that works well, too. ...just sayin'.
Fair points, thanks for the added insight.. let me know when you ready to refill you bottle haha😂
@lancefrombk4594 oh man, I definitely will. Problem now is that when we split our 18oz bottle, it cost us about $275. Same thing now costs closer to $400. Ridiculous!!
We want to see all applications, great content and always appreciated!!!
Lance, thanks such for watching. I'll definitely share the stuff I do throughout the season.
I feel like I just had a math/conversion class for Herbicides. LOL. I do the same thing when I am mixing mine sometimes. More isn`t always better. MSM Turf is a real small amount per K. I have the same grass clippings on top of my grass that wash into my lawn from my neighbors all the time🤬. Your green up looks a lot like mine. I pulled the trigger on my first fertilizer application yesterday since it`s going to rain today. .55 lbs. of N per K (ammonium sulphate). Everything greened up really early this year, but it still isn`t growing very much. I`m ahead of you on the flower beds. I took out all the old mulch and put down 49 bags of dark brown from Lowes. It`s on sale for 2.50 until 3-29-24. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
TPack, thanks for watching, man. I go back & forth on how specific to get with the math and some.of the other details, but I know some people don't know some of this stuff. Ha ha And yes, I need to get into my flower beds and beautify stuff. I just have too much music stuff going on right now...taking lots of my time.
I see people in shorts all the time here even at 40 F. Not weird at all
There he is! I'm just here to support the lawn renaissance
Thanks, Chuck Man. I need all the help I can get. 🇨🇦
Good one bud!
Thank you, fine sir. 🐺
I appreciate your explanations…. Do you have any opinion on soil wetters or enhancers that are suppose to allow better fungicide and preemergent soil penetration?
Hey, Thomas. Thanks so much for watching. I use a wetting agent throughout the season to help with water infiltration. You know you need one if you see water bead up and run off your soil...or if soil just takes too long to take jn water. If you don't see any of that, then your soil is fine.
Of course we wanna see it! Haha. Hope all is well 🤝
Alright alright. I'll be sure to shoot that application then. All is well on my side of the screen. Hope the same is true for you.

GrayFox! Seeing as how it's looking like summer is well on its way, I just hope it has some rain this year. We don't need another year with little to no rain.
Could you do a video on what products you are going to use this year?
Yo, Jeremy. I'll definitely touch on the subject. Honestly, I won't be straying too far from the stuff I used last year. I run a pretty bare bones lawn program. But, sure. I'll talk about it. Thanks for the suggestion.

@TravSmitty Tahoma is one of the options I'd try myself if I was renovating my lawn. Great cultivar! Did you kill off what's already there?
@@thelawnrenaissance Going to be stripping it all off as the drip is under so it won't be a chemical kill off process. It all has to come up so it is a demo job.

I scalped mine 3 weeks ago out here west of Stephenville. I bagged and hauled off 1500 lbs. to the dump. It was about 2" tall and I took it down to .75 with my Honda HRX. It`s gonna be a long summer at this rate. Thanks for the video. Always enjoy them.
Hey, tpack! I seriously wanted to scalp mine back then, too, but it just folelt so wrong. Ha ha I should've just done it. My lawn would probably be all greened up by now. But yes, it's looking like it Kay be a terrible summer if the mild winter is any indication. Yikes.

Yes, I've talked about high municipal water pH in other videos.
Hey J, have you done any pre-m apps for 2024 yet?
Jason!! Hole you're well, man. I have not yet, but I'll admit I have been considering it the last wee or two. About 5 days ago, I noticed there's some green starting to grow in. I may wait one more week just to see what the forecast looks like, so I can maybe scalp and get my pre-em down.
@@thelawnrenaissance Nice! I went ahead and applied half rate of Coastal last week Thursday right before the rain so perfect timing. Just got my soil test back from waypoint pH is 8. Any recommendations for lowering it?
@jasona4881 I'm still okay with my Fall pre-em application, but man this weather sure makes it feel like a super early start to the mowing season. I'm gonna wait one more week, and if weather looks like a continuation of what we're getting, I'm going for it. As for the topic of pH, you probably didn't see the video I made on pH. 😆 Views show that no one watched it. Ha ha Maybe there's somethjng in there you can use. Sometimes I'm in on trying to lower it, and sometimes it seems futile. In short, the answer is Sulphur. ruclips.net/video/CcyfZEXMLCA/видео.htmlsi=ZgjtUifg4uwvdr5k
Hey J! Revisiting your pre-m program. I just put down my 1/4 rate of Indaziflam. With Simazine you apply that once in the spring or do you split that up too?
Thanks for a great video showing how you do it. How do I apply elemental sulfur in powder form? I bought it by mistake. Can I mix with water and spray? other options. ?
Hey, Geoff. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it. Good question. I actually had a section in this video where I talked about sulfur powder. First thing: Sulfur won't go into suspension in water. So while you could mix it in water, you have to keep agitating the mix so that the sulfur doesn't settle. Secondly, because it doesn't disssolve in water, you can only mix in so much Sulfur because it clogs spray tips. So yes, you can spray it. Just keep shaking the tank your spraying from as you spray the lawn. The specific Sulfur I was told to use if I wanted to go this route is micronized Sulfur. Hope this helps.
For many years I had subscribed and followed several professional (really certified) turf managers online however I had not seen a more detailed, easier, simplified breakdown to follow beginners or intermediate level lawn care enthusiasts. Like the research, the way that you explain that on the long term as you are dominating weeds, the idea is to lower the doses (great for soil). 5 years ago I learned the math the longer way but here you lay it down in a great way for beginners.
