Well it depends on what most people consider budget friendly. The XR and 11 are a bit over $600, while the SE started at $400 (when it was released). That’s a $200 difference. If I were to think about budget, I’d say $500 or below. If you think about it, most smartphones now cost about the same price of a laptop or more. Correct me if I’m wrong but when the first iPhone was released it was $500.

i’ve always wanted a 5s because of how aesthetically pleasing it looked. i’ve had the iphone 4s as my first iphone, then i upgraded to the 6 and kept it for two years and to what i have now the 7 plus and i would’ve consistently upgraded every two years ive had the phone if i upgraded last year but i decided that my sister can upgrade before i did because her phone was my 6 and now she has the 11. anyways i would probably get the 5s or the SE in the future just as a collector’s item or maybe use it for the day depending on the day

Just bought a second-hand 5s. Beautiful design, makes me feel happy having something this nice. Having an Iphone feels more like having a companion than just a regular device. I've never had a newer Iphone so I don't know if it's a quality consistent with newer models.

There's still a possibility that Apple will release a phone with a similar design to the 5/5s/SE but we shouldn't get our hopes up too high for it. The iPhone 8 design on the other hand is most likely going to be revived probably late March or early April of this year with the release of the iPhone 9 or whatever it'll be called. The 8's design is not far off from the 7's and even the 6/6s one. It is the final iteration of classic and iconic Apple designs (pre-notch).
I bought a 5s for around $30 earlier this year. My first iphone. It was suppose to just be a temp phone in between selling my other phone and buying a new one. Thing is - after disabling a couple of features it runs pretty good and 6 months later Im still using it everyday and don't see any reason to spend money on a new one. I'm thinking if I upgrade for ios 13 I'll just get an SE.
The best part is running Lightroom mobile and doing photo edits on it... Also people dismiss it as super old but it still does "all the things" that most people do.

My iPhone 6 is on iOS 12.5.5, the latest security update, and the iPhone 5s runs the same version, I think it’s nice Apple still supports these older A7/A8 devices and doesn’t force users to upgrade. I’d recommend jailbreaking your 5s for dark mode and other newer features.

Currently watching this on a 5s, not had any issues, though it’s a technical drawback not having software support due to the ram it’s still coping with being an iPhone: Buttery smooth, capable and ever professional, it’ll be a shame to see a design die out but in this day and age a design this old needs to be put to bed.
My first iPhone (well, Apple product) was the 5s. I got it for ¥4999 in China (about $800 US), but I didn’t like that it only had 16 GB! I upgraded to the SE as soon as I could for the 64 GB of memory (for 10% less than I paid for the 5S)... I’ll upgrade to the 9 (SE2) when it comes out for a nice boost, but I’ll miss the 4 inch display...

I think the 5S also introduced 4g support, whereas the 5 only offered 3g. I'm looking forward to making the switch to iPhone when the SE arrives in a few days. I had been an exclusive Android user since the OG Droid in 2010, but years of increasing frustrations with my Android phones, some flagship models, have made the choice to switch an easy one. We'll see how it feels moving from 4gb to 2gb of RAM. For what I do (chat, streaming video, www, some photo editing) I think it will be fine.
After my iPhone 3gs stopped being supported i moved to android and nowadays i prefer android for a ton of reasons, but even tho im not an apple person anymore, i personally love the SE, to me it is all that the entire idea of iphone represents, it has the best size in my opinion, im not into big phones even tho i have an s9(but it is hard nowadays to find a good compact phone ;-; + i dont get to choose my phones), and the SE got power under the hood and a great camera, it is my favorite iphone by far
I'm using the og SE right now. Still fast with ios 14, fingerprint is slower but not slow, it's okay and more than enough. Battery is fine, i don't play games on phones so it's fine to me. Worth the purchase.
I'm mainly still kicking it with the iPhone SE all these later because of the form factor. I do A LOT of workflow with it. My eco system consists of the iPad 6th gen, this iphone and my windows PC. So half the time I'm rendering small photo edits and videos on Adobe Premiere Rush most of the time. I love how it still kicks butt, but I am starting no notice a slow down when I have 6+ apps running at the same time, and talk about HEAT. The little device can get HOT. Still, I love it, probably the best phone I have ever used. I would love it if Apple ever released another small form factor phone, but for now, I might switch to a different phone soon. (P.S- i love it when people look at it and assume its either the 4 or 5, or are so young they just look at it confused xDD )

Not that much on upgrades on modern phones. My Iphone 5s still kicks on most of my basic tasks, still not upgrading for the next 3 years as long as it can run social media apps and youtube. Getting maybe an iphone 6s or galaxy s6 on 2023, going for iphone 7 or 8 or galaxy s7 in the next 6 or 7 years, then upgrading to iphone X or galaxy note 8 or note 9 in the next 10 years then to note 10 in 12 years.
in the beginning of this year i switched from an android phone to a used iphone se and boi do i not regret it. best decision ever, im not going back to android unless it's a pixel phone or a One Plus phone.

iPhones always feel the same no matter what model you have due to the iOS. The only major difference is processing power and the design.

My first iPhone (well, Apple product) was the 5s. I got it for ¥4999 in China (about $800 US), but I didn’t like that it only had 16 GB! I upgraded to the SE as soon as I could for the 64 GB of memory (for 10% less than I paid for the 5S)... I’ll upgrade to the 9 (SE2) when it comes out for a nice boost, but I’ll miss the 4 inch display...
I really hope that the new IPhone SE third generation will be around for like a good number of years now I really like my new IPhone SE third generation a lot

Relivv_13 tbh my 5s is still a great phone but it’s becoming a bit to slow and buggy for me personally iPhone 5s and 6 are great for people how doesn’t really care for the best new tec like kids and for family members how want to FaceTime there grandkids

Actually, if you had a 5s and a SE, lets say both white face up, the only way to tell is the 5s has chamfered edges (shiny) and the SE has matt edges

The Silver 16gb 5S on iOS 8.1 was soooo much more reliable then my shitphone 7 (I had an SE too but the 5S has a different feel to that phone)

I think the 5S also introduced 4g support, whereas the 5 only offered 3g.
I'm looking forward to making the switch to iPhone when the SE arrives in a few days. I had been an exclusive Android user since the OG Droid in 2010, but years of increasing frustrations with my Android phones, some flagship models, have made the choice to switch an easy one. We'll see how it feels moving from 4gb to 2gb of RAM. For what I do (chat, streaming video, www, some photo editing) I think it will be fine.

After my iPhone 3gs stopped being supported i moved to android and nowadays i prefer android for a ton of reasons, but even tho im not an apple person anymore, i personally love the SE, to me it is all that the entire idea of iphone represents, it has the best size in my opinion, im not into big phones even tho i have an s9(but it is hard nowadays to find a good compact phone ;-; + i dont get to choose my phones), and the SE got power under the hood and a great camera, it is my favorite iphone by far
I'm using the og SE right now. Still fast with ios 14, fingerprint is slower but not slow, it's okay and more than enough. Battery is fine, i don't play games on phones so it's fine to me. Worth the purchase.
I love my SE. I like the small size. Could get an iPhone 7 for a good deal but don’t really see the point. I like phones to fit in your pocket.

I'm mainly still kicking it with the iPhone SE all these later because of the form factor. I do A LOT of workflow with it. My eco system consists of the iPad 6th gen, this iphone and my windows PC.
So half the time I'm rendering small photo edits and videos on Adobe Premiere Rush most of the time.
I love how it still kicks butt, but I am starting no notice a slow down when I have 6+ apps running at the same time, and talk about HEAT. The little device can get HOT.
Still, I love it, probably the best phone I have ever used. I would love it if Apple ever released another small form factor phone, but for now, I might switch to a different phone soon.
(P.S- i love it when people look at it and assume its either the 4 or 5, or are so young they just look at it confused xDD )
I miss my SE. I still got a 5S somewhere too. Once I started upgrading, I never looked back though.

I still have my 5s and still use it but I have the iPhone XS Max but I have to agree that the 5s is the best design especially because the back my Xs Max is shattered from taking off my case

A good place would probably be Ace Communications. It has lots of cheap and retired phones there. I found a iPhone 5s there for 115 dollars.
Not that much on upgrades on modern phones. My Iphone 5s still kicks on most of my basic tasks, still not upgrading for the next 3 years as long as it can run social media apps and youtube. Getting maybe an iphone 6s or galaxy s6 on 2023, going for iphone 7 or 8 or galaxy s7 in the next 6 or 7 years, then upgrading to iphone X or galaxy note 8 or note 9 in the next 10 years then to note 10 in 12 years.

My SE just bit the bullet a week ago. Luckily I had enough saved up to replace it. I’ve got an 11 now and I love it but I still kind of miss my SE.
in the beginning of this year i switched from an android phone to a used iphone se and boi do i not regret it. best decision ever, im not going back to android unless it's a pixel phone or a One Plus phone.

I guess you can use Dark Mode on iOS 12 by turning on Smart Invert via accessibility. That’s the closest it can get to have Dark Mode or otherwise Jailbreak.
