- Two years ago, a Finnish company called HMD Global set up shop across the street from the old Nokia headquarters to resurrect one of the world’s most famous cellphone brands. Around the same time, an American company called Light built a crazy camera using multiple sensors to coax DSLR-like performance out of a smaller package. Today, these two companies have come together to produce an ambitious photography-focused smartphone. These are my first impressions from an afternoon with the Nokia 9 PureView.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the stuff thats happening in tech. Foldable screens, multiple cameras, in screen fingerprint sensors, near to no bezels with edge to edge displays, 4000+ miliamp batteries, 5G, 6+ gigs of ram, and upto 1TB storage in just a phone! Really is the stuff of sci-fi movies.

I don't think the lack of the microSD card slot would be that much of a problem, since you'll have access to unlimited storage on Google Photos with Android One
Nokia, please don't forgo the SD card and headphone jack support in future phones. These aren't consumer friendly decisions. With that said, looks like a promising phone. I've been loving the products Nokia has been putting out
specifically for camera focused phone, i think shutter button is also a must
It's funny too since they also did the 1080 which was also kind of a special edition phone but offered all that dot-dot. I'm hoping that this phone sells well enough for them to make a version with both of those and and an updated chipset
@@adammalik5397 From my usage experience with my L1020 which has such button, i find hard shutter button practically unnecessary useless as the touch screen to take photo/video is easier less clumsy to use in practice !
So, good they dumped the shutter button. I'll prefer they also do away with the volume buttons leaving only the power button as the only button in the phone instead.
Regarding lack of SD card slot...if so i believe that means they still have not managed to resolve the issue of 4GB per file size limitation which i find problematic when used in a phone with SD card slot.
So, in the Nokia 9 PV i'll expect e.g. that it'll be able to save a 4K video larger than 4GB into 1 file then...which is good if so then i can use it to take my 4K driving videos with say 1 hour trip all into 1 file instead of 4 clumbersome 4GB files as is the case on my Nokia 7plus with SD card slot.
For a camera-centric phone however, i find only 128 GB storage somewhat on the 'low' side as 256 GB version should have been offered too.
Regarding lack of headphone jack, if so probably done for better weatherproofing of the phone since that means lesser openings on the phone bodywork. But nowadays with wireless bluetooth ear phones, i'll say that's a way to go since one do away with irritating wires dangling around one's neck with wired ear phones !
Overall right now on the 50-50 edge whether to get this Nokia 9 PV or defer to future models with 855 SoC & 5G enablement with larger storage like 256 or 512 GB to go with ? Even then the cost:benefits of a 5G model for consumer space remains to be seen as presently Nokia seems focused on 5G network deployment only for the industrial commercial sectors with consumer devices like smartphone sector taking some 'back seat' due to the unresolved high 5G auction fees in Europe etc.
i.e. political administrative rather than technological constrains holding back 5G consumer smartphone deployment ?!
@@adammalik5397 from what I know double pressing the lock button starts the camera. It works quite quickly on my Nokia 7 plus. Pretty much like the camera button. I'm pretty sure there's also a button shortcut to take pictures. So it's not that necessary, but it would be good for sure
Edit: volume up takes a photo. So double pressing the lock button and pressing volume up takes pictures on my phone. I'm pretty sure it will on Nokia 9 as they'll run almost identical software

@@eyeforaneye87 tbh if you're coming from a $1000 high end iPhone, it's not really fair to compare it to cheap/budget android phones. That'd be like comparing a Porsche to a Camry. It sounds like you're a power user, so I would look at upper midrange and higher Androids (so like $450 and up) if you want a fair comparison.

For 699, that's a great deal for a current trend phone , and its super quality photo feature! + performance.
It's been almost a year since the leaks for the first "true" Nokia flagship started to show up. Since then I got myself hyped for this device having all the features that are "musts" for me, stuff like suitably executed stereo speakers, wireless charging, proper wired fast charging, storage options, not necessarily the best camera performance but a very good one, etc.
Now that it's unveiled, it bugged me so much initially finding out that most of my wish-list is dropped in this device; then I heard about the novel approach they took for the camera setup, and it hyped me "again" for a completely different reason! that's just WOWWW for me!! Awesome job HMD...

With Google making such a strong case for Single module cameras and using advanced software processing for images...this goes to the other end of the spectrum...plus that many modules gives me pause for thought relalting to hardware issues/failures.

Camera samples look fantastic, it's unique, runs Android One, and is only €599, £549, $699. A steal in my opinion.
And thank god for no notch or hole punch screen design - massive short term design compromise before phones change fully in next few years.

RAW format with that much light gathering ability, as well as Adobe software to edit in phone.... Count me interested. The hard part is getting it to work seamless. Easy and consistent. Plus, hmd phones get little sales after 6 months that sweeten the pot a bit
