    I live in the finger Lakes region of New York, close to the Montezuma wildlife refuge. There is a very healthy population of Osprey there. Their nests are huge! In fact, state wildlife biologists intentionally install these large disk like attachments to the top of the powerline poles for them to build their nests on. There’s plenty of food available for them as well, as the refuge is considered a wetland. Bald eagles have made quite the come back there as well.

    I was very surprised to find out theyre so cosmopolitan, theyre very rare where i live, even endangered 🐦
    Also, im watching a live cam of an osprey nest, and all the young were snatched one by one by a hawk, so theyre a danger to nestlings too 😔

    They should be the official state bird of Florida. They’re everywhere down here and they’re certainly a lot cooler than the damn Mockingbird

      I used to think they were the state bird of Florida for this very reason!

      They need to change the state fossil too... Out of all they had to choose from-- saber toothed cats, mammoth, megalodon, terror birds and so on... We get, 🥁🥁...agatized coral xD :,(

    I got one asking for help, hanged it opposite and shaved some of its small wings (hair-like) and saw a swell (very large), I assume it ate something that has a long or sharp bones like fishs, maybe a wrong big part that stacked in its through, but I kinda don't worry, because it was like this for long time and it is still breathing, I am wondering what is the best to do for it? there is no veterinary around !

    I have a pair of Ospreys where I work I find that they share in hunting for their babies ospreys. My question is only one does the whistling and the other one doesn't whistle in the same conditions. The one that does the whistling stayed at the nest and the one that doesn't whistle tried to scare off or attack the hawk or any bird that comes too close to the nest. My question is the one that does the whistling are they a male or a female? I can tell a difference because one has black feathers on its chest and the other has only white feathers on his chest. If someone knows leave a comment. Thank you

      Females have the brown feather "necklace" some darker than others, and the female is larger than the male. They will take turns guarding the nest, but usually the female is on the nest when laying and brooding; the male will take over for short spells to give Mom a break

    Idk why, but I have always pronounced it Aw-spray. Does it matter? Or am I wrong? Idc if I’m wrong, I’m still pronouncing it that way, but I just wanted to know.

    • @AnimalFactFiles
      @AnimalFactFiles  3 года назад +1

      They list it as either here: www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/osprey
      So I'd say both are probably correct! Of course, I'm not exactly someone who's gonna hate on someone else for pronouncing something "incorrectly" - language is in constant flux and things change. You do you! =)

    So, Osprey are not a hawk, eagle or falcon. No classification? Just that they're unique.🔥 I am curious?
