    So happy I found your channel, I have a bunch of this broad plate I bought at an estate sale and never knew what to do with it, going to experiment with it now.

    So that's how it's done😄. Thank you for making the technique so clear. Maybe now I will try to use it.

    I've noticed that some of the techniques for applying broad plate are similar with Native American porcupine quillwork. I wonder if there was any influence either way, or if they simply evolved independently as a logical way to apply a flattened and flexible material as surface embellishment.

      I don't know anything about porcupine quill work but I guess it's likely that they developed independently from one another; the first gold used in embroidery over 1000 years ago was pieces beaten flat and stitched over!

      I noticed the same thing as I do quillwork!

    What thing you use for securing the thread?

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  5 лет назад

      The thread is secured with a waste knot on top then two small stitches to hold it in place. I'm also using a laying tool (the gold pointed tool) to help me guide the thread into place called a mellor (available from our online shop here: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_1947558-Goldwork-Mellor.html). Hope this answers your quesion

    What kind of hoop are you using and where can I get one

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  5 лет назад +3

      I'm using a Versatile table clamp (two for the video to keep it still for the camera but you only need one) and the fabric is framed up on stretcher bar frames. All of these items are available from our mail order shop as well as over 500 other items so do check it out! We ship worldwide, just add the items to the basket and select your country form the drop down list to see postage costs. www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/cat_264747-Embroidery-Equipment.html
