Wonderful episode! You & Michaela sharing memories of your grandmother was special. Sometimes, we don't realize we are crafting heirlooms. My mom gave me the crocheted coverlet my great-grandmother made for her nearly 90 years ago. The stitches and tension are so uniform they look commercial manufactured.
The piece on goldwork is especially informative. Recently, I finished a book set in Elizabethan England about theater actors. In one scene the seamstress told an actor not to sit down wearing the costume. Otherwise, he would bend the goldwork.

I just received my embroidery kit from Colour Stream. I am not usually into embroidery but I just loved Michaela's beautiful and unique Lillipilli Paper Flowers! I chose the least expensive delivery option and it arrived exactly 10 DAYS after I placed the order. All the way from Australia to Ontario Canada in 10 days! It's just beautiful and I can't wait to get started. Thanks Andrea and Michaela in expanding my crafting horizons. You are inspiring others as your grandmother inspired you! Also thanks for sharing your Australia adventures and your wonderful family with your viewers.

Since Andrew's passing, I've been having a hard time watching you guys. I'm not sure why, it absolutely isn't your fault - your content has, by some miracle of talent, determination and effort, remained of an incredibly high standard. This is the first one where my own sadness at the change has begun to lift. Thank you for not stopping what is a wonderful program.

Yes Nina I think I've felt the same and even seeing Andrews image makes me very sad. Having lost my sister and her husband in 2020 and then my mother in law in July 2021 and then most tragic of all my 33 year old son in September 2021 I try to steer clear of anything that makes me feel worse than I already do. But I totally agree with what you have written and Andrea and Madeleine have been truly amazing at being able to continue this beautiful program after the passing of that beautiful man.

I feel the same - I dont know why. I feel a sort of guilt, because Andrew at first fell ill in my country, Denmark on Fanoe. I loved to see you two together - your personalities folding out and your way of collaborating. I have been very sad , very sad about Andrew . But telling myself to continue watching this fantastic show of talent. In a way , I think, we the followers, want to carry the sorrow of Madeleine and Andrea. Thank you to all your nice family

Me too. But I took out my knitting again and built a sunny space and started live streaming and formed a club called Shellee’s “Plums & Mustard” Club for Crafters. The joy of knitting that is part of my daily life is thanks to meeting Fruity Knitting and being a patron and becoming a knitter. Andrea thank you. This episode is so beautiful.

It was a pleasure hearing about your grandmother and seeing your beautiful and talented sisters. I enjoyed Madeleine's interview, she did a very good job! Your little nieces are the proof that children can learn an enjoy making things, even in a world full of screens of every kind! Thanks again, from a cold early morning in Montréal!

What an amazingly talented family you have. Your grandmother was truly an artist and it's so wonderful she could pass along her passion and talent to all of you. I have never seen such beautiful embroidery, certainly nothing with ribbon. I have done a lot of embroidery in my day. Not so much now, but this certainly inspired me. And I think the Brioche top looks fantastic. A terrific episode, and a wonderful interview.

Absolutely loved this episode. Lovely to see the big sisters and the little sisters at the end (great little weavers). Madeleine's interview was excellent. Embroidery was my first love in craft and I had classes at the Royal School of Needlework, so I very appreciated such a specialist subject. It was also interesting to see the very modern application of a traditional craft in the costume designs.

Oh my goodness - this was fabulous. From Fiona who looks a million dollars (cannot believe the mother of four - stunning) showing us her knits. The waistcoat looks so good with the dress and about 49 years ago I nit my daughter a bobble cardigan and this has brought back lovely memories. Then we hear about your very talented grandmother who has paved the way for her granddaughters and have seen her work but also the quilts - is there no end to the talent of you three sisters? The interview was mind blowing and so good. Well done Madeline. Then to cap it all we have the two little fairies showing their new talents. This has been a joy - thank you so much. Oh and the retro dress looks stunning on you Andrea. I am sure spending time with your family is doing you so much good. It doesn’t change what has happened but perhaps it is giving you some much needed energy. Well done.

Wonderful episode. Really loved the stories and pics of your grandmother. Very inspiring. Thanks for a great episode. There used to be an Australian Craft Mag that we were able to get in Canada. I loved it because it had all the variety of knitting, spinning, crochet, silk ribbon embroidery and lots of other crafts to keep learning new skills with the projects included in the mag. Michaela's art reminded me of how much I loved those mags with all their diversity and skill. She does beautiful work. I hope I am still able to do these beautiful crafts into my 90's like your grandmother. Oh yes and to add to the list of this craft used to embellish things beyond wall art for the silk ribbon embrodery, the mag showed so many projects embellishing everything from knitwear to baby things, blankets and toys, and a myraid of other projects. The one I especially remember and loved was a bunny baby blanket and bunny. Your local library might have some of the issues of this beautiful mag (from the 80's!). I also really enjoyed your views of the tropical island. Where I am on the prairies in Canada, we have been through a frigidly cold winter with extreme temps into -30's C and -40's C with the windchill, and buried under 10 ft high and wide snow drifts from blizzards in the last month. So the tropical island excursion was a most welcome diversion. Thanks for this warm tropical breath of fresh air and sea breeze. I can hardly wait for spring .

Just as a matter of interest: I'm an avid herb grower AND singer. One year, my chorus sold "winter plant bowls" as a fund project, which sold very well in Texas, where it rarely freezes. They all contained ornamental cabbages. Just before the plants started making seed the following spring, I clipped them off and braised them in water and a little butter and salt. They were delicious, and my fellow singers were astonished. Of course, I hadn't put any chemicals on them so the plants were safe. Andrea, I just love your choices of music on this program. I haven't heard a better "Ain't we Got Fun."

Gorgeous knit pieces! Thank you for loads of inspiration today. They are lyrical pieces, hit all the right notes and are delightfully "composed" :)
BTW I struggled with knitting bobbles and "raspberry' stitch until I took up tunisian crochet. Now when I doing raspberry stitch on two knitting needles, when I get to a bobble I use my regular crochet hook to make 5 stitches in one and then do 3-4 rows of tunisian crochet (simple stitch). A single decrease with the last stitch left on the needle (pull yarn through the far left tunisian and pass over the loop on crochet hook) then slip back on to knitting needle. It is much less fiddley and tight. Was lovely and forgiving as it's not nearly as hard on the fingers. You can try the two methods them side by side and compare a knitted raspberry to a tunisianed raspberry to see how close they are in appearance.

Well that was so much fun. From the opening of that amazing plaid, to the ending with the bigger girls weaving. One of my most treasured things is a small doll blanket my Aunt made in the early 1920s when she was a small child. It's wool of various colors and I'll bet they were bits from my grandmother's stash. Madeleine did a wonderful job - what a great choice of artists for that piece and Michaela; oh my gosh, what can't she do? So 3 incredibly talented sisters, each with her own flair, make beautiful things based on skills your grandmother taught and encouraged and pass those skills to one another as well as down to the next gen. Fantastic. Fiona's bauble sweater looks terrific and I hope will wear it proudly. Perhaps white shorts or a white sundress, even with tiny flowers would look good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! So much talent going back generations! I loved seeing the beautiful things that your grandmother made. That lacy, lined cardigan; so beautiful and beautifully made. Although, I pretty much restrict myself to knitting, I loved the embroidery shown in this episode and, was inspired to purchase a kit from each of the designers showcased (thanks so much for the discounts). I'm looking forward to trying my hand(s) at something new. To Fiona: the sweater and vest that you've made are gorgeous, please don't be too hard on yourself because your sister is so accomplished, you're doing soooo well and, to have Andrea for a resource, we should all be so lucky! Also, wonderful to see Madeline stretch her wings and carry out an excellent interview with Danielle Dean. Congratulations all!

Just delightful. I’m rained in today NSW/QLD flooding and had to turn back and come come so this was perfect to lift me wet spirits. Loving this family experience, what a joy. I’ve had no family growing up so this is lovely to witness. Looking forward to seeing more of Fiona’s progress, that vest is on my to do list 🥰

Wow! I have taken to watching on the big screen instead of my phone because it's all so gorgeous. Great job Madeleine! The cinematography of the girls at the end was exquisite.

Gosh you are a wonderfully creative family and I will say it again terribly attractive clan. Your grandmother was an amazing woman who passed on the creative genius gene to you all. Your baby sister Fiona is so beautiful and I love her style of dress. I will look into your sister's embroidery pattern as I am more of a quilter and embroidery gal. I am hooked on your channel because I love looking at stuff my brain could never quite master-knitting!!! In my next life perhaps. I hope to see more of the family in the next videos and I am so happy you are amongst family.

I loved every bit of this episode!
Just thought I would tell you that there is a wonderful porcelain china artist there in Australia by the name of Debbie Good. She would be someone wonderful for you to interview if your travels should take you by there. She is famous for her porcelain painting. I paint on porcelain as well and few people are doing that anymore. She would add a wonderful unusual addition to your program. You probably have a few porcelain painters already watching your podcast. And that one artist sister of yours should take up porcelain painting she would love it!
Thank you for all your hard work and you look so happy! I'm so glad! I love your mama! What a great story!

Andrea, you'll have to open a yarn shop somewhere in Australia. There is not much here. I am from Sydney and there are really only a couple of decent yarn shops here, I still have to commute to get to them.
I am sure up in your little town there are plenty of crafty folk. ;)

Andrea you are truly amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, it was delightful. I think of you and Madeleine often. I was going to say hope you are both doing ok, but as I am grieving the loss of my son, I know, we can't be OK. We just do what we can, smile when we can and try to heal and always talk about and keep alive the person we have lost. Much love to you both.

Andrea and Madeleine, this is a lovely episode! Fiona did a fine job of the vest and the blue sweater is coming along beautifully. It was so good to meet Micaela. She is a very talented artist and her embroidery is exquisite. Madeleine, your first interview was very interesting… you did it like a pro! Fiona’s little girls are delightful😊

You have a wonderful legacy from your family. My grandmother, aunts and mother have left us a legacy such as this as well. We are so blessed.
I've been thinking of the ditty "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, merry, merry king of the bush is he. Laugh, kookaburra, laugh, gay your life must be".
