    I enjoyed your 'ChitChat1' recently and really enjoyed watching this today (as I ironed the clothes we wore on holiday to the Northumbrian coast last week!). Despite not using the log burner in the cottage everything smelt of smoke so I refused to unpack my stitching! Thus I needed to make up for withdrawal!! Thanks Sarah. Having done very little Goldwork I found the work you put into your piece was awesome with such deserved results. I'm still at the struggling to control it stage🙂.

    It’s amazing all you have done! Your work seems so brilliant and beautiful. I’m happy to hear you received an award…that must have felt so nice to be recognized for all your intricate work. One day I will do gold work for a gift I think 🤔🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽Mia

    80 hours! My, my! I am wondering what your setup (ergonomically) was like for that many hours. I too, think the tarnished bits create interest.

      We did the work on large slate frames Kay and our classroom was on the top floor so the exercise up and down the stairs was good!

    That's fascinating Sarah. I truly enjoyed learning about all the different gold work techniques used as well as seeing how ones such as long and short stitch all combine to make such an amazing piece of work.
    What happened to Mr Ginger Cat and Miss Pinky? Out mouse hunting maybe. Tabitha brought a shrew home yesterday, thankfully only a little soggy but no damage otherwise. I put it where she couldn't find it again and it scampered off.

    Thank you so much Sarah I thoroughly enjoyed that, such a really beautiful, elegant piece of work, very deserving of winning that prize!, the Tudor rose is just superb as well, and totally thrilled to bits to be able to have a go at the version you have done for us too even though I am scared to death of working on the velvet!, but as usual you have inspired me to give it a go, perfect thank you x

      @@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thanks Sarah, yes I know, but you always make me feel I "can" do things, so wanted to see if I could do it "properly", and then having got completely carried away realised I haven't got a clue how to actually handle stitching on the velvet at all!. So any video on the subject would be just brilliant, thanks xx

    What a privilege to see your beautifu work up close and to hear you speak about all of the background research that went into your design. Having your walk us through all of the treads and techniques that you used, and the challenges involved, is the icing on the cake. I really appreciate your sharing your brief with us; it affords a glimpse into the rigors of training with the RSN. I'm curious, now, to learn whether you've subsequently stitched on silk velvet. It would be fascinating to see a piece worked in cotton velvet side-by-side with a piece stitched on silk velvet. Congratulations on your well-deserved award, and thank you for sharing this with us. I hope you enjoyed your Queen's Platinum Jubiee celebrations! 🙂👑

    I think the tarnish looks purposeful right now, it's so balanced. When I get around to making my Goldhaube I think I might use real gold as an accent just for the colour it'll eventually turn.

      The metals in this piece all had real gold in them and some have tarnished and some haven't so you might want to test them first Cheryl!

    As someone who sews, I can confirm that silk velvet is impossible to work with! It's so pretty, and I do think it's worth it afterward, but while you're working on it, you're constantly asking yourself why. Why on earth do I hate myself so much? Though for those who do want to sew silk velvet, OI recommend sewing by hand. And buying a velvet pressing board.

    So lovely! For the curved pearl purl in the topmost piece, how did you get it to stay down while going around the corner? Did you couch it down at all or just rely on it to “stay” once you placed it without additional help?

  • @gryphonshale

    What a piece of mastery that is! And, I imagine a work of great patience and perseverance! Stunning! It does make me a bit sad knowing that the nature of goldwork is the tarnishing. What a shame that is. Does that mean historical pieces have all likely tarnished as well? I loved seeing this and learning all the details. Thank you!

    • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
      @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery  2 года назад

      Yes historical pieces all tarnish too! It's part of the technique so It's ok!
