I was kind of grandfathered in to being a Bruins fan as a kid but once I started watching/following hockey seriously I stayed a Bruins fan because I love the way they play the game. They play with tons of grit and force that wears the opponent down. That's what the leafs problem is. Even though on paper they're a bigger threat than the Bruins they still manage to lose half the time. They need to trade some of their soft speed skaters for some solid checking depth so that teams think twice before running over them. My opinion anyway.
So True! I'm a Leafs fan & you're 100% right Kane!!!! But Dubas thinks he can out smart anyone & anything! I wish the Red lady would wake Dubas up with " You know nothing John Snow"
And 80% of the Bruins current roster are 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders drafted by the Bruins. That's why it works. Develop in Providence and bring them up when they're ready. Model franchise. And had the balls to trade Seguin after deeming him "not a real Bruin". Balls.

The EBUG is called upon so extremely rarely that any change they make is unnecessary. Over the next 20 years the over/under of how many times we'll see an EBUG is probably at 2.5. Yes, it sucks for Toronto (and biased Toronto high level people like Burke) that they become a laughing stock over this. But at the end of the day it was more a credit to how hard the Canes worked to protect the goalie, and less about Toronto being terrible. If this same goalie had come in for Toronto, and won the game in a Maple Leaf sweater, the media idiots like Burke would be praising him for the Cinderella story just like the American media is right now. These former junior players that Burke is suggesting aren't going to want to go sit in the back for 41 games a year, waiting for an emergency call that is nearly guaranteed to never come, to be paid $500 on the 1 in a million chance that it does someday happen. It's done, it's over, it will be 10+ years before we ever see it happen again. Making knee-jerk changes to the roster policy over a once in a blue moon miracle is the worst idea I've ever heard.
The way I look at the Leafs is the salesman that is phenomenal when they want to work - making million dollar sales for their company. Then the next day they wanna just half ass it and make 5 phone calls. Then when they get called out, "well I made a million dollar sale yesterday". Someone needs to remind the Leafs yesterday's game doesn't matter. Good or bad it's in the past. What matters is the challenge in front of you. Their work effort is literally terrible. All the talent in the world and they half ass it out there.
Not at all a bullshit call, players need to be responsible for not only their sticks but their own bodies, an errant stick hitting some guy in the face is usually accidental but the penalty is still deserved. You have to keep your head up in hockey no matter what level or age group. The reason these calls happen is to protect the goalies, if players started taking runs at goalies the game turns into a brawl.
I would say that Burke has a lot of balls to call Ayres a "beer league goalie", but we all know he hasn't got any. BB was never good enough to play in the NHL so maybe he is just jealous of the fact that a 42 year old did something he never could. Congratulations David, you did a great job and you deserve all of the accolades and don't pay attention to anything a below-average has-been "coach" has to say.
There's something going on with leafs behind closed doors. I think Mathews or Tavares one of the two have to go this summer. I think there's a leadership problem almost like the team is divided, if I had to let one guy go it would be Mathews.. he's had issues before with the coaching staff and also Tavares is already the captain. I think a shake up likes this would be good for the team and he would get a huge return back plus relief on the cap.
that game ended 6-3 they emergency goalie wasn't the problem... to say that not having a proper goalie when the proper goalie got scored on 6 times is a bit hypocritical
I think hes saying it's not a good look for the league overall, it can make casuals wonder what kind of bush league is the NHL if legit hockey teams in their organization cant beat zamboni drivers, it ruins the integrity of the league.
@@taval29 It doesn't ruin any integrity for the league. It's only humiliating for the Leafs franchise. What ruins the integrity of the league is, say, Game 3 and 4 of the Montreal vs Vegas series with the garbage officiating.

Replace Toronto team with Beer League team and maybe they could make the playoffs. When a team can’t celebrate a goal and they show next to no emotion... yep they are not going far. Go Oilers Go!!!
This team has a bunch of me first guys (Nylander, Marner, Auston) that plays with no hearts, no desires and no work ethics. This is softest and most mentally weak team in the league. Except for Morgan Reilly, I don't like any of the players on the Leafs.
No Darcy Tucker or Wendel Clark in that locker room, Sundin had more grit then the 3 players, Nylander, Marner, and Auston combined. John Tavares needs to get his men on board.
Consistancy is the key ,hard work. The issue is half of the team ( the younger ,well paid players ) consistantly want to come to the ice like its a fun day in the playground with no mommy or daddy around to tell them what to do. Those kids better grow the hell up.
When Toronto scored 2 quick goals in the second I was like oh no here we go there's no way we can win this game but when Foegele scored in the first minute of the third the leafs just completely stopped playing.. Carolina played great D but still at least throw some pucks at this guy...Toronto was half ass even skating
Yep, Toronto appeared to stop playing while Carolina stepped up their defense. They played some of the best hockey I've seen. The problem isn't the level, its you cannot maintain such a level for 80+ games and playoffs, its impossible. But for half a game, yeah, they can.
@@rizon72 yeah I don't see any team playing like that for long periods..maybe a few games here and there.. It was like Carolina was on a 20 minute pk lol

Zdeno chara is 42.. Why does it matter how old he is? And they won? And you got to see fantastic defense from the canes.. The leafs should consider signing him. Maybe they will play some d.
People in the media make a big deal out of injuries but they are just part of the game, no big deal. I love Keefes attitude...love our young D, ...we are just going to get better...let them play, have fun, learn, evolve, they are fast, smart...the youth have arrived to stay...gone are Barrie, Ceci...let them go...we are off to the playoffs again, unlike you know who, again...lolllllllllll...and we just going to get better because of this...eye on the prize...GO LEAFS GO
This is like that guy said about the cowboys just getting a accountant. Well maybe if they did some of these teams would win more. There’s a lot of people out there for different circumstances didn’t turn pro but it doesn’t mean they aren’t just as good.
Another case of the NHL looking for a looking for a solution to a problem that doesnt exist. The only reason the EBUG ruled being discussed is because the Leafs were totally embarrassed on national TV in Canada by Ayers. If this was the Florida Panthers, no one would give a rat's ass. Ayers came in and played well, just like Scott Foster the time before. So what's the problem other than bruised egos?
That means omitting that he's screwed up. If nothing changes he will die by this sword and we will be stuck with a new GM and coach. Hopefully sooner than later.
the teams in canada pay to keep the teams in united states alive.except ottawa this year.toronto and montreal keep 3 teams ea alive jets edmonton calgary 2 teams ea.you know if these american teams needs subsidies from canada than move the teams to quebec, hamilton saskatoon. enough said
Not a major issue but if it were, every team should sign a free agent goalie that has to go to their 82 games.like a veteran that stops getting interest or a college or Junior guy that doesn't get drafted.250k salary that doesn't count against the cap
It doesn't matter who was in the goal...the best team won the third period. The Leafs had a WHOLE period to win against a "beer" goalie. They didn't do what was needed. They lost.
If this was happening a couple of times a year, then I'd say yes it needs fixing. But its a rare thing, and what happened in the Canes/Leafs game was even more rare. But it might not happen again for another 10-20 years.
If anything I think this is a serious reminder that goalies doesn't matter THAT much in this league. I mean the Canes was the better team and outscored the Leafs, adjusted the game after the emergency keeper jumped in, thus the goalie could be a 42 year old zamboni driver.
not looking at real problem which was the play of leafs, Aryes was a great feel good story for the NHL, why denigrate Aryes by not using his name, simply respect to use his name, I also believe that he understood fully the risks and benefits. BRAVO to ARYES , hope the NHL doesn't change the rule, would be horrible PR
In soccer, if the goalie is injured and no substitute goalie is available, then one of the outfield players is used in place of the goalie. No such thing as an emergency goalie.

Beer league goalie is a practice goalie for the Marlies... he would still be one of the better goalies in the area
Just a thought: I look at the high priced players strutting in their expensive clothes for the cameras on arrival and departure for games. Maybe these guys are in a "rock star" state of mind? They have all that they need, money, fame, groupies, etc. Maybe the Stanley Cup to them is secondary to what they have?
The CBA literally makes them wear suit jackets and pants. Every NHL team is exactly the same. All of these guys have money so of course they will wear nice things if forced to dress this way. This is the dumbest take I've heard in a while.
You should see soccer players in the uae 🇦🇪 they actually suck and get paid more money than an engineer and doctor
am i the only one that thinks Clifford shouldnt have been penalized at all? i played goal for the better part of 20 years & ive seen goalies being run countless times over the years. i didnt see that in this play. Clifford was going for a loose puck & collided with a guy who had no business being there. he didnt run him. he didnt hit him. he collided with him. he went for the puck in a straight line. as a former goalie my thinking on this play is the guy who is way out of position in this case is the guy that has a responsibility to avoid the collision. i'll add, that Mrazek was an idiot in this play knowing they already have 1 guy out
I AGREE, should have been no call. instead it should have a call on the goalie for leaving the crease for no good reason. or embellishment
I'm not even sure why the goalie left the crease. You have no back-up except for the EBUG, don't take a risk.
David Snooks. Do you really think on paper they(Toronto) are a greater threat? No 2 and No 6 in scoring is on Boston.
And 80% of the Bruins current roster are 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders drafted by the Bruins. That's why it works. Develop in Providence and bring them up when they're ready. Model franchise. And had the balls to trade Seguin after deeming him "not a real Bruin". Balls.
You think wise young Skywalker!!!!👀😎👍🍻✌️
@@chelious1973 That's kind of what I meant like statistics aside I meant just the Leafs roster in general looks more impressive on paper than Bostons.

I love the goalie set up. No harm in letting a true hockey fan come in steal the spot light from millionaires and live the dream for 20 mins. Both time the beer leaguers won the game. I love it. Don’t change a thing. It is amazing
Awww burkeys mad his leafs have a meme that will last forever
The Leafs knew it was their practise buddy in net so they were given a tough emotional decision to make. Subconsciously they didn't want to humiliate him so they skated like it was a shinny game during practice
Get rid of Jake Gardiner they said it would be great they said....he's not bad at all since he's been gone our defensive numbers have greatly suffered
I really hope he gets a cup with Carolina it's almost bound to happen how many players have the leafs got rid of and won a cup? He may not be having the greatest season right now but I'll tell you the leafs wish they had him rn instead of Barrie or ceci give me a break
I don’t think he likes Carolina
Does Burkey call Ayres by name at any point in this exchange? I think he calls him "the beer league guy" every single time
No Thanks i found that disrespectful. Give the guy some credit for doing something amazing.
Pat McAfee and guys who NEVER talk about the NHL were giving it exposure over this!!! Stuff like this is great!!!
isn't Chara 42? He's still great
While the Blackhawks haven’t cared about winning since I can’t remember win, watching this hungry high-energy and fun Hurricanes team game after game has sure been a joy. Go Canes!

sad thing is that ayres hasn't played in a game since 2015 so he's not even beer league
Not enough credit to Canes defence and forwards for brilliant third period effort.
@@lastofusclips5291 yeah but he has played for 35 years and has been practicing with the Leafs and Marlies regularly the last 4 years. He is much better than an average beer league goalie. Still he didn't really need to do much...
Im a salesman...I know many like that! You are right on Dr!
Does anyone know if Brian Burke is a Leafs season ticket holder?
There should have been no penalty to Clifford; it wasnt his fault that the goalie was out of the crease; and he didnt see him. Bullshit call.
Yeah that didn't make sense to me, he comes way out of his crease and completely cuts off Clifford with no chance of him avoiding him
Agreed! And to think it was initially a major penalty.
Give the Cane's credit for not giving Toronto an easy 2 points. Finally defensive hockey is alive in the NHL.
The zamboni guy didn’t beat the leafs... the canes did... With help from the leafs... He was just along for the ride.

I would say that Burke has a lot of balls to call Ayres a "beer league goalie", but we all know he hasn't got any. BB was never good enough to play in the NHL so maybe he is just jealous of the fact that a 42 year old did something he never could. Congratulations David, you did a great job and you deserve all of the accolades and don't pay attention to anything a below-average has-been "coach" has to say.
beer league guy is actually a dam good goalie no? i think if he played in my beer league no one would score on him, and we're pretty good!
Wait does Brain have season tickets?
Is Rogers a rights-holder?
Does anyone do better than Rogers if the Leafs do well?
that game ended 6-3 they emergency goalie wasn't the problem... to say that not having a proper goalie when the proper goalie got scored on 6 times is a bit hypocritical

Burke: Why the hell do I come on this show...
Go cheer for someone else then. Go Leafs Go!
In all fairness Nylander was the only one that cared enough to get on the ice Sunday to practice
Hyman has really good work ethic too
No Darcy Tucker or Wendel Clark in that locker room, Sundin had more grit then the 3 players, Nylander, Marner, and Auston combined. John Tavares needs to get his men on board.
The canes didn't give up after BOTH of their starters went down. They wanted it more than the leafs and they deserved to win
It was like Carolina was on a 20 minute pk lol
re the comment that the difference between good and great is consistency,; I believe that it is tenacity. If the Leafs played like the Canes played they would be a better team
Zdeno chara is 42.. Why does it matter how old he is? And they won? And you got to see fantastic defense from the canes.. The leafs should consider signing him. Maybe they will play some d.
Rather insulting Burke calls him " the beer league guy"
People in the media make a big deal out of injuries but they are just part of the game, no big deal. I love Keefes attitude...love our young D, ...we are just going to get better...let them play, have fun, learn, evolve, they are fast, smart...the youth have arrived to stay...gone are Barrie, Ceci...let them go...we are off to the playoffs again, unlike you know who, again...lolllllllllll...and we just going to get better because of this...eye on the prize...GO LEAFS GO

He mentions it every single time he’s on air in case people forget.

The beer league guy beat a beer league team.
Burke your "beer league" goalie not only beat the leafs but has been great for the game.
Wait, is Burke a Leafs season ticket holder?
does Brian Burke ever do an interview where he doesn't mention he is a season ticket holder?
someone find out if Frazer McLaren is available.
I predict the Leafs will play better against Tampa, in fact, they will dominate Tampa, outshoot them but will run into a hot goalie and lose.
This is like that guy said about the cowboys just getting a accountant. Well maybe if they did some of these teams would win more. There’s a lot of people out there for different circumstances didn’t turn pro but it doesn’t mean they aren’t just as good.
I hate anything and everything Toronto - and the fact this went down against Toronto, just makes it even sweeter.
This guy is threatened by an 80% save percentage amateur goalie? its like chill out, Leafs sucks period.
It's NOT work effort! It's leadership!
Yep let's just not make a big move at the trade deadline and get a big defenceman nice move Dubas
That means omitting that he's screwed up. If nothing changes he will die by this sword and we will be stuck with a new GM and coach. Hopefully sooner than later.

Burke The Eye Specialist-- i,i,i,i,i,
Not a major issue but if it were, every team should sign a free agent goalie that has to go to their 82 games.like a veteran that stops getting interest or a college or Junior guy that doesn't get drafted.250k salary that doesn't count against the cap
Fix what? That situation happens so infrequently, it's not worth the discussion.
It still happened though
Why didn’t that goalie just let in some goals. What a Bum.
Beer league gm and beer league analysts should show some respect to the oldest goalie to earn a big league win
