How to Root Pixel 5 Unlock Bootloader and Pass SafetyNet

Hello there. Welcome to my channel. I am Ricky Tran and today I will be showing you guys how to Root your Pixel 5 by unlocking the bootloader and entering into fastboot mode. and also I'll show you how to pass SafetyNet. The Google play store has apps that are normally hidden from rooted devices and paying apps like google pay wont work on rooted devices . That is because of SafetyNet. Well, we'll by pass that today.
Things you'll need
Pixel 5 with over 60% percent battery life
USB Type C
Windows PC
you can use Linux or Mac if you know how to use there terminal commands
Minimal ADB and Fastboot
forum.xda-deve...
Platform tools folder
developer.andr...
Stock Factory rom of your Pixel 5
developers.goo...
Magisk Manager Canaery APK

and
Termux APK
termux.en.upto...
all downloads are in the link in the description
Before we start. I have a little disclaimer. Unlocking your bootloader and rooting your device can possibly void your manufacturer's warranty and possibly even brick your device. Continue at your own risk.
Lets begin.
Step 1 Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Download and install on Windows PC
Step 2 Platform-tools
download and extract "Platform-tools" folder
Step 3 Turn on Developers Options
By turning on OEM Unlocking and restart phone by powering off and powering back on while holding volume down button.
Step 4 Unlocking Fastboot Mode s
open up command prompt
type "cd" press the spacebar once and drag and drop in platform-tools folder into command prompt than hit enter.
when it says "Don't unlock "bootloader"
Press volume down until it reads "Unlock bootloader" than hit the power button.
Step 5 Download stock factory image(rom)
On the Pixel 5 go to "Settings" "About Phone" and remember down your Build Number
Go to developers website
scroll down until you see Redfin Pixel 5
Download your build number version by clicking "link" and not flash
Extract the "boot.img" file inside of the "Image" zip that is inside of the factory rom
step 5 Move Boot.img and APK to Pixel 5
Make sure Pixel is connect to PC and File Transfer is enable
From PC, open the Pixel's internal storage drive and navigate to the downloads folder
Download Magisk Manager apk and Termux apk
move Boot.img, Magisk Manager apk, Termux apk to download foldersof Pixel 5 internal storage
Step 6 Install Magisk, Termux, and patch boot.img
On Pixel 5 install Magisk apk and Termux apk from download folders
Go into Magisk Manager and click on "install" Next to Magisk
Click on "Select and Patch a File"
and select the "boot.img" file in the downloads folder
Click on "Let's Go"
Magisk will create a file called "magisk_patched.img"
Step 7 copy magisk_patched.img to pc
On your pc
Located download folders inside of the internal storage dirve of your Pixel
Move that file magisk_patched.img over to your PC via USB File transfer.
open up command prompt and typ in "cd" spacebar and drag and drop platform-tools folder into command prompt. Than, hit enter
Step 8 Flashing magisk_patched.img with fastboot
On Pixel 5 Boot into Fastboot Mode (Bootloader)
Power off device and hold down "Volume Down" button while power back on
in command prompt type "fastboot flash boot" space bar
drag and drop magisk_patchec.img into command prompt. than, hit enter
restart device
Step 9 Passing SafetyNet
On the Pixel 5
Go into Magisk Manager app
click on gear icon top right
click on MagiskHide and Enable
Click Hide Magisk Manager
and change to "M Manager"
Or, whatever you are comfortable with
magisk will change its name and icon hiding it from Google's SafetyNet
Go back into Magisk
now called "M Manager"
click on shield Icon
Click on MagiskHide
Open Google Play services
check all
Go back one
click on little puzzle piece button right
click on search icon
click on search field
type in "Magisk" without quotes
click on "MagiskHide Props Config
Click Install
when done install click "reboot"
Open Termux app on Pixel
type "props" without quotes
type in "su" hit enter
type in "props" hit enter
type in "2" hit enter
type in "d" hit enter
type in "7" hit enter
type in "20" hit enter
type in "y" hit enter
type in "y" hit enter
Make sure not to add the quotation marks
Phone will restart
Congratulations
Your Pixel 5 is now rooted and passes SafetyNet

Thanks! I've been rooting my phones for over a decade and the instructions posted on XDA become more and more convoluted as time goes on. It could be as easy as installing an app or as complicated as an LG V30 with flashing all kinds of shit and the instructions are unintelligible. I was still able to pass safetynet with this procedure. I read on XDA that there were issues a few months back.

This method won't pass SafetyNet anymore. I don't think.
Same here option 2 was replaced with the option "Device Simulation"
If you get an error like "failed to write partition not found" use these commands instead:
fastboot flash boot_a namefile.img
or
fastboot flash boot_b namefile.img
tried both and still no dice. luckily i was able to flash stock boot.img back so i could reboot my device. did they change something to patch this method, and would the method on xda site be working?

@@MarioCola ya i don't know man, i probably missing something but i've doubled and tripled checked the steps and followed to the T. i'm thinking maybe the file is corrupt bc i downloaded through wifi. when i get to an ethernet jack i'll retry

I tried your process step for step and it's not sticking for some reason once I flash the patched boot file and reboot I open magisk and it still says install as well as the su and modules are still grayed out any help is appreciated friend

If the phone is now recognized as Pixel 3a, that means that it does not longer qualify for unlimited Google Photos uploads that Pixel 5 does.
Can someone test this?
I'm rooted with lineage os 18.1. Glad I got pixel over Samsung. Samsung locks their bootloaders to the core with snapdragon models.

Heya, following the video step by step and great so far but.. when I get to the point of downloading "Magisk Manager Canary" the link you listed is a file that's 3mb but the one you drag over is 9mb, I try use the file you linked and it asked me to update before using, I did that and even after that point it's a different build to yours, I try to install the patch file with the boot.img and it fails the last step of repacking the boot image "unable to repack boot image". Is the Magisk canary APK definitely the same one from the vid? doesnt seem to work :/ thanks
Managed to get it working after I went looking for the same file you had, the one linked is definitely not the same one though :/ had to uninstall that and install one directly from the magisk github, awesome video though!

Can't seem to pass Play Store certification.I can't see all apps in Play Store like Netflix and Peacock.
OK, so I made it to step 8 with a google pixel 5a... and now the phone won't go beyond the fastboot mode screen. I can hit "start" for power or change to recovery, power off, rescue mode, recovery mode, restart bootloader with volume rockers but all entries return to "START". Does this mean that I bricked my phone? I tried to reflash the original boot.img at it says OK and OK and finished but does not revert back to anything again.

Rooting shouldn't effect your camera but if it does just unroot it with magisk manager.

OEM unlock option is greyed out on device. Any tips or guides to fix this?

@@Chinesemapper403 I think this is in fact the problem. Because I have a Verizon branded device and it has the same issue.

hey mate while I do the command "fastboot devices" in the right directory, nothing is shown. Phone is on Fastboot Mode or not. Can you please help me ?

@@laztbr3th LMAO!!! Samsung is the buggiest when it comes to rooting. I've owned plenty of Samsungs I've never had any issues but compared to Google are you serious!!??
