Yeah, and even for Android 10 most of the ROMs for the Pixel 3 require you to use their own recovery to flash the ROM anyways (until perhaps TWRP gains Android 11 support and Android 10 support more widely). Definitely great to have another way to install Magisk!

Hey man! Wanna give you a massive thank you for this amazing tutorial! Honestly worked like a charm and first time too! Passed SafetyNET too! However I put my phone down for a week or so and I had a magisk update, updated it without a clue and now its not passing safetyNET with a CTSprofile failure. What should my next step be in resolving this?
Hi Mr Herbaut! Double check that Magisk Hide is still enabled in Magisk Manager. If it is, and you are passing basicIntegrity but NOT CTSprofile, then you'll need to install this module (SafetyNet got updated maybe 1-2 weeks ago), and the basic evaluation by spoofing the device type is not sufficient anymore: link.squabbi.com/x4shww Apparently we don't have to use MagiskHide Props Config to spoof the device (Pixel 3), but if SafetyNet is still not passing after installing the Universal SafetyNet fix, then install MHPC (module via Magisk Manager) and choose the option to 'force BASIC attestation' (or something along the lines of that).
@MaowDroid .. Awesome Job .. 👍🏾👍🏾 .. Question : I like to use Custom Recovery (TWRP) .. can we use TWRP ? .. Can you show us how please ? Same phones Pixel 2 - 4a ..
Hey unonice! Thanks :D Unfortunately we'll have to wait until TWRP releases their next build (3.4+?) which should be more (if not fully) compatible with our newer Pixels running Android 11. They mentioned that they were looking to fix some bugs first before another wider release, but we don't know how long that would take.
Thanks for your comment Andrew! Good to see you again! Not anytime soon unfortunately - however this should work well for the Pixel 5 providing you use the Factory Image for it. If you want to try it, lemme know how it goes and I can indicate that it would work on the 5, and probably the 4a 5G.
@@MaowDroid Good to know and thanks for responding! I had a feeling this method could work. Reading the XDA forums and watching this video, nearly the same. Just a different image as you mentioned. Cheers!

The command *fastboot flashing unlock* _disables_ the OEM function on my Google Pixel 2 even though the phone comes with this option toggled on. These phone manufacturers suck.
Hi Myles, absolutely you can. If you follow one of my unrooting videos for the Pixel you have, you can choose to download the Android 10 factory image, flash that and then wipe your device in recovery (just so we can boot up after downgrading). Just don't re-lock the bootloader if you plan on rooting/doing other cool things. 👍
I cannot enable OEM unlocking as cannot start device and get pas the "Verify Pin" Even reset doesnt wipe my phone to factory setting. what can help? magix or TWRP?
Flash the stock boot.img first and see if you can boot up. If not, you will probably have to wipe/factory reset. After that, you can try again. I saw your other comment, just make sure you're using the latest stable version of Magisk to patch the stock boot.img - and make sure you downloaded the right factory image to use too!
Sending 'boot_b' (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.468s] Writing 'boot_b' FAILED (remote: 'Error flashing partition.') any help? edit: everything up to that point worked perfectly fine.
Once it is fully rooted with Magisk and I go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Reset: WIll it cause a boot loop? What's the best way to do a factory reset and still have root?
Hi! In more recent versions of Magisk, the SafetNet feature been removed from the app. You can use any other SafetNet checking app on the Play Store. I've been using this one: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rikka.safetynetchecker

fastboot: error: boot partition is smaller than boot image pls help me
My device (Google Pixel XL) shows using ADB commands. But I can't open it because of it’s bootloader unlock. Can anyone help me to give a better suggestion plz..??
A great tutorial indeed. When I try to install the patched bootloader, I get this error. please advise.` fastboot: error: boot partition is smaller than boot image`. my android os is 11. 2021. 09. 05 version. 11(RQ3A.210905.001)
I got fastboot: error: boot partition is smaller than boot image but there is a fix on the boot.img download page make sure you are under the right model header because the build number is the same for multiple different phones. It is best to scroll and find yours I did ctrl+f and typed my build number in the build number was right but the device was wrong. Just make sure to double-check.
Hi Rocio! I had no idea DU had Android 11 builds! You should be able to grab the boot.img from (download.dirtyunicorns.com/) under the images section for your device and use Magisk Manager to patch it; then flash the newly patched boot.img to the boot partition.
@@MaowDroid Thank you so much for your reply! I believe I need some help, hopefully you can save me. I got the phone, unlocked the bootloader and installed Dirty Unicorns on it. Then I wanted to try Pixel Dust so I went back to stock and tried to install it. Right at the end, after successfully installing rom, all I had to do was Reboot. But it wouldn't get out of the PixelDust recovery. Nothing would work so I pressed Power+Volume Down until it booted into fastboot mode and then reverted to stock. I'm not sure if I broke something because when I was wiping data, I got the following error after it said Wiping Titan M: E:can't send spi message Try again I got about 30 lines of that and then it said Data wipe complete and it booted into stock. That concerned me a little so after doing some research I saw the suggestion of flashing the entire image factory, so I did. And everything went smoothly until the very end where I got: Erasing 'userdata' Erase successful, but not automatically formatting. File system type raw not supported. Erasing 'metadata' Erase successful, but not automatically formatting. File system type raw not supported. Rebooting Finished. Total time 253.513s Press any key to exit... Again, it booted just fine but I'm worried something might eventually affect the device. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Apparently we don't have to use MagiskHide Props Config to spoof the device (Pixel 3), but if SafetyNet is still not passing after installing the Universal SafetyNet fix, then install MHPC (module via Magisk Manager) and choose the option to 'force BASIC attestation' (or something along the lines of that).
Thanks! Was able to get SafetyNet passed on my Pixel 2!
Excellent! I presume it still uses basic evaluation of SafetyNet? :D
@@MaowDroid yes
How did you do it?
i am getting flashing unlock is not allowed.
Any way to fix this? I have OEM Unlocked
Can you show how to downgrade from official android 11 to 10?
@MaowDroid .. Awesome Job .. 👍🏾👍🏾 ..
Question : I like to use Custom Recovery (TWRP) .. can we use TWRP ? ..
Can you show us how please ? Same phones Pixel 2 - 4a ..
Hey unonice! Thanks :D
Unfortunately we'll have to wait until TWRP releases their next build (3.4+?) which should be more (if not fully) compatible with our newer Pixels running Android 11. They mentioned that they were looking to fix some bugs first before another wider release, but we don't know how long that would take.
@@MaowDroid .. ok now I understand .. TWRP is not ready for Android 11 .. gotcha 👌🏾👌🏾 .. Thanks for your response .. Keep up the great work 👍🏾😁👍🏾
Don't get the carrier locked versions otherwise you can't roof
Thank you so much for these videos. Made rooting my P4 easy. Any chance you'll put out a video for the P5?
Thanks for your comment Andrew! Good to see you again! Not anytime soon unfortunately - however this should work well for the Pixel 5 providing you use the Factory Image for it.
If you want to try it, lemme know how it goes and I can indicate that it would work on the 5, and probably the 4a 5G.
@@MaowDroid Good to know and thanks for responding! I had a feeling this method could work. Reading the XDA forums and watching this video, nearly the same. Just a different image as you mentioned.
Cheers!
@@Mighty_Droid great news! Hopefully it goes smoothly for you then! :)
My screen stopped working after rooting. Followed the instructions shared in the video. How to fix this now?
I tried going back to Android 11 on my Pixel 3a. Please help
upon 15:03, flashing magisk_patched.img, would this yet again wipe user data?
how to solve this problem when i went to this step
D:\platform-tools>fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
Sending 'boot_a' (0 KB) FAILED (File is too large to download)
fastboot: error: Command failed
thank you very much :)
My factory image link: 11.0.0 (RP1A.201005.004.A1, Dec 2020) keeps coming out with a corrupted boot.img
You cannot unlock this version. it will be locked when you try to open it !
I get an error every time I try to fastboot flash boot the flashed file. It tells me, "writing 'boot a' (bootloader) image missing cmdline or OS version)." I made sure I downloaded the right boot image. The partition size is 67,108,864 and the image size is 100,663,296. Anyone know how to fix this?
When its rooted, do we get system/software Update again??
My pixel 2xl is 200720. Thats July, but when i find the doenload it says Sept. July is a different #. So do i download the Sept?
The command *fastboot flashing unlock* _disables_ the OEM function on my Google Pixel 2 even though the phone comes with this option toggled on. These phone manufacturers suck.
Many thanks,very very good explications
Glad it was helpful! :) Thanks for your comment!
Subscribed Thanks!
This is awesome and very thorough, thank you!! Can I downgrade to android 10 after unlocking the bootloader like this? Or how can I do that?
Hi Myles, absolutely you can. If you follow one of my unrooting videos for the Pixel you have, you can choose to download the Android 10 factory image, flash that and then wipe your device in recovery (just so we can boot up after downgrading).
Just don't re-lock the bootloader if you plan on rooting/doing other cool things. 👍
I cannot enable OEM unlocking as cannot start device and get pas the "Verify Pin" Even reset doesnt wipe my phone to factory setting. what can help? magix or TWRP?
My phone is broke....your device is corrupt.it can't be trusted and may not work properly.....and stuck fastboot mode 😭😭😭😭😭😭help mee
Sending 'boot_b' (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.468s]
Writing 'boot_b' FAILED (remote: 'Error flashing partition.')
any help?
edit: everything up to that point worked perfectly fine.
i got that too
Once it is fully rooted with Magisk and I go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Reset:
WIll it cause a boot loop? What's the best way to do a factory reset and still have root?
Worked perfect for my Pixel 5. Such a clean and simple guide
Thanks for sharing! Have fun with your rooted Pixel 5! :)
my Magisk after rooting keeps opening and closing (pixel XL 2)
bro im stuck at adb pull can someone please help me cmd said no such file or directory
hey, you don't use a TWRP for?
how to solve Safetynet not pass on pixel 2?
I'm running magisk 24.3 and I didn't find safetynet
any help pls
Hi! In more recent versions of Magisk, the SafetNet feature been removed from the app. You can use any other SafetNet checking app on the Play Store. I've been using this one: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rikka.safetynetchecker
Any articles to read regarding removing device identification? My Pixel 4 isn't passing safetynet unfortunately
It's the first link under Further Reading in the description :D : link.squabbi.com/c03h4e If you want to check out the discussion there.
Otherwise the GitHub issue then links to an XDA thread where someone made a module that invalidates the props for you here: link.squabbi.com/3pfke1
Hopefully it works out for you too!

If you cannot enable OEM unlock there's nothing you can do unfortunately. :(
@@MaowDroid I got the same issue even i enable OEM unlock. Any suggestion?
I got fastboot: error: boot partition is smaller than boot image but there is a fix on the boot.img download page make sure you are under the right model header because the build number is the same for multiple different phones. It is best to scroll and find yours I did ctrl+f and typed my build number in the build number was right but the device was wrong. Just make sure to double-check.

Aw thanks for your comment! I'm just glad you found this helpful in some way. :)
factory images i download they corupted
My wifi dont work after root, any fix?
Great vid! Will this work only on stock rom or could I do this on a Dirty Unicorns rom?
I'm not sure if I broke something because when I was wiping data, I got the following error after it said Wiping Titan M:
E:can't send spi message Try again
I got about 30 lines of that and then it said Data wipe complete and it booted into stock.
That concerned me a little so after doing some research I saw the suggestion of flashing the entire image factory, so I did. And everything went smoothly until the very end where I got:
Erasing 'userdata'
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported.
Erasing 'metadata'
Erase successful, but not automatically formatting.
File system type raw not supported.
Rebooting
Finished. Total time 253.513s
Press any key to exit...
Again, it booted just fine but I'm worried something might eventually affect the device. Do you have any idea what this could be?
I followed this tutorial and I also used the Magisk module for adb root, but adb root does not work. Any ideas?
How to root with MacOS? Currently do not have a windows laptop.
You can do the exact same things, to run the fastboot and adb programs/binaries, you need to suffix them with "./" a dot + forward-shash.
can someone help my saftey net still not passing
How to do system updates after rooting? Since we are disabling OTA updates.
