    Video Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I have the Google Pixel 8 here and in today's video I'll be showing you how to root this Android smartphone with the help of a superuser tool called Magisk.
    #android #pixel8 #pixel8pro #googlepixel8 #googlepixel8pro #magisk #androidroot #rootandroid
    For those of you who own the Pixel 8 Pro, you should be aware that the steps I show you today will work exactly the same on your device. So it doesn't matter if you have the smaller or the larger variant. Both devices can be rooted by following this video.
    But before we can begin, you must have some things setup ahead of time.
    For example, we can't root this phone if the bootloader is locked, so the first we need to do is unlock the bootloader.
    We then need to sideload the Magisk application to the Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro.
    Now, we also need to download the Google firmware that matches the version we currently have installed.
    This will be a ZIP file that needs to be extracted to your desktop or laptop PC.
    Now you'll find another ZIP file within this firmware.
    And you can either extract the contents of that file, or you can just go inside the file and pick out the init_boot.img file.
    This is the file that needs to be patched with Magisk and flashed to our Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro before we are able to gain root access.
    So let's take this file and copy it to our smartphone.
    Now we're going to open up the Magisk app.
    Tap on the Install button up here.
    And then choose the Select and Patch a File option.
    Browse to whatever folder we stored the init_boot.img file so that we can select it.
    That will load the file into Magisk and begin the patching process.
    You'll see here that the app has given us a different file labeled magisk_output.
    We need to take that file and copy it back to our PC.
    Before we switch our focus back to the computer, though, we need to boot the Pixel 8 into Fastboot Mode.
    Just like before, I have already shown you how this is done so if you're not familiar then, again, check down in the video description below for a link to that video.
    Here is a Windows PowerShell that has been opened in that same folder. But you could also do this in a Command Prompt or Terminal window as well.
    We need to type out the following command. . .
    fastboot flash init_boot filename.img
    and we can actually just begin typing out the filename Magisk and then press the TAB button on the keyboard to autocomplete it for us.
    We simply need to press the enter button on the keyboard to execute this command and we should get two OK messages as a result.
    With that file being flashed successfully, we simply need to select the START option within Fastboot Mode
    And then wait for Android to boot back up.
    The first thing you'll want to do is open up Magisk to check and see if there are any additional setup instructions required. As sometimes you get a message saying the phone needs to be rebooted again in order to fully root the phone.
    But if you don't see that, and you see a version of Magisk is installed from the top card here, then you have completed the Pixel 8 root tutorial.
    I also recommend downloading a free root checker like this to confirm that the root access prompt is working properly.
    Why use Root Checker? Isn't Magisk, enough? Just like ChainFire's SuperUser back in the day, you'd just check the logs, right? Or any other root manager. Just thought I'd ask.
      it's a work expense for me (youtube is my daily job)
      if you have tried a factory data reset and it still doesn't work, the only thing I can suggest is using the Android Flash Tool to re-image the filesystem with a freshly downloaded firmware
      that would truly eliminate any software issues that could be possible. if it still doesn't work after that, then it sounds like a hardware issue
